During a roof inspection last week, we found an example of a shingle well beyond its expected life. One of the most common shingle failures is granule loss. This is the protective covering that shields the asphalt in the shingle from wear, and harmful UV rays. Once these begin to come off, you can end up with a roof that looks like this. In this case the granules are about 80% gone in some spots leading to rapid roof degradation, and a high likelihood for leaks. Give us a call if you see this on your roof. Earlier this month we participated in some community outreach that blessed Project Homeless Connect (PHC) in Hillsboro. As you may have seen from the photos, Kendall & Nalani had a great time digging in and getting to work with the rest of the NWiR volunteers and the crews. Being able to tangibly help our local community blessed us as well. We loved running into Catherine who works at PHC. She is also a fellow Washington County Chamber member so it was a cool full circle moment for us. PHC serves the Washington County area by providing critical resources to those experiencing homelessness in the community. Today we are celebrating the great week we have had for the NRCA’s Roofing Week! On Tuesday, we were honored to be a part of the Oregon Council of NWiR project with the Home Building Foundation. Together we were able to install a new roof on the Day Center building for Project Homeless Connect right here in Washington County. So many people came together to make this project happen. Thank you again to everyone who donated, materials, labor, equipment, and their time, to complete this project. This week is National Roofing Week and todays topic is "Charitable Projects". Roofing Contractors are asked to share stories and pictures for the day's topic. Today we get to feature how our company participates in giving back. It just so happens that we are out helping with a reroof project at Project Homeless Connect in Hillsboro today. Once the new roof has been fully installed, a final clean up will take place. Our Roofing Process: Clean Up & Project Wrap Up 1. Use a magnet to pick up nails that might have fallen around your yard and home. 2. Clean out the gutters of any debris from the project. 3. All of the equimpment and the dumpster will be removed. (Please note, this may take a few days for everything to be picked up as some vendors get busy, but we will be in communication until all peices are removed.) 4. A final invoice is sent out. 5. Now that the jobsite has been prepared, our crews are ready to start working on the roof which leads to the next part of the process. The average house takes 2-3 days from the start of tear off to the completed roof and cleaned up jobsite. Our Roofing Process: First Day on the Roof 1. Tear off (all or part of the roof) 2. Inspect and evaluate the decking 3. Torn off areas will be dried in with waterproofing underlayment. (Be assured that even without the shingles, your roof is in fact dried in with the proper materials.) 4. Ground clean up will be preformed each day (as needed) #simplyroofing #ourprocess

We love the opportunities to get up close and personal with the manufactures we work with, and nothing does that better than a plant tour. Did you know we have a special place in our hearts for metal? Chris’ first roofing job was in the sheet metal department and that launched his passion for the art of metal. Brandon enjoys thrashing the drums to head banging metal. They both take pride in installing a show stopping metal roof. A metal roof can truly be a lifetime roof with proper maintenance. The metal in the picture above is at @pumpkinridgegolfclub and is a small but beautiful detail. This is called a radius standing seam panel roof or a T panel. Radius panels are one of the most technically challenging types of roof panels due to the care that it takes in measuring the initial roof. Every roof with a curvature has its own unique radius that needs to be captured in addition to the individual panel lengths. The measurements are sent to the manufacturer to roll form the panels to the specific radius. These will be sent to the job and carefully installed. If these measurements are inaccurate, new panels will need to be ordered. They are delivered in a large crate which means you need the space and equipment to move it around. These roofs turn out beautifully if you have someone who takes the time to properly measure and install them. We love metal roofs!
