The last few weeks have been some of the most wild in recent memory. In between all of my travels and a wildly successful AAO with @allure.ortho we adopted a set of twins. Dogs, of course, Hansel and Gretel. @kwow007 discovered their story by way of @amaanimalrescue who we’ve been following since @lifewiththemcjancis told us to check out a Pekingese 6 years ago. We’re Somogyis, so the story doesn’t end there, Gretel was pregnant. On May 5th at 3 in the morning, in Kelly’s office she gave birth to 6 puppies. Sadly one didn’t make it. Kelly was on stand by, armed with snot bulbs, forceps, scissors, towels and an ER Vet on stand by. She may have a new career as a Doggy Doula. She has done an incredible job helping Gretel with her babies. We’ll be adopting them out thru the rescue (of course we’re keeping 1…maybe 2) but for the next few months…we have 8 dogs. This morning I asked the kids; if you could do anything today what would you do? Without hesitation Thor said,”Go to the mall” Delia seconded the idea. I said sure thing. My next question was what do you want for breakfast? Both said crepes. I said you got it. We got to the mall where Delia wanted to go to Hot Topic, Thor wanted to find Manga and records. Delia wanted to build a bear. We did all those things. Grabbed lunch in the food court like they wanted and asked them what should we do next? Arcade was what they wanted to it’s what they got. On the way there Thor mentioned he’d like to go to a bookstore. Barnes and Noble was right up ahead so we stopped in, bought books, grabbed Starbucks and went to The RAM Arcade in Haddonfield. That place is like a step back in time and completely amazing. We left and Delia asked if we could get ice cream before dinner, I said yes. A glance in the rear view mirror and I saw Delia put the pieces together. She asked,”are you saying yes to everything?” Another glance back and a quick “YES”. Pandemonium from the backseat gallery. They didn’t press any further. They were thrilled. We got ice cream, then cheesesteaks, then watched some @mrbeast videos. It’s not often it’s just the 3 of us, and while @kwow007 is enjoying a much needed girls weekend at the beach house I wanted the kids to have an epic weekend too. Last night was the last game of Fall Ball. It was fun seeing Thor and Cordelia take the field together. Bat one after another. Heck, last night they even pulled off a double steal. It was the perfect ending to a fun season. The late autumn air, the lights coming on as the sun went down, the fighter jets flying over head from the Eagles game, and the chatter of children playing baseball. I stopped for a minute to really take it in. Delia on Second, Thor on Third, my whole world in scoring position. From womb mates to team mates. Delia decided she wanted to play baseball and has joined Thor in @mountairybaseball Fall ball. It’s kid pitch now and Thor has the benefit of 2 seasons of machine pitch under his belt. Deals has never remotely paid attention to a baseball game which made it interesting. Nonetheless, she wound up with a strikeout, a walk and a run scored. Thor had 2 walks, 2 stolen bases, and a run scored. Thor has been missing @amalgamphilly a lot recently. He asked what other comic book stores there were. So today we did a Comic book Crawl. Our first stop: Ontario Street Comics. Thor dug thru boxes, combed thru shelves and came away with some solid finds. Next stop: @atomiccitycomics were we ran into a familiar face, @rsonthevoice from Amalgam! Thor loves this place. Said he didn’t want to leave. We stopped by @woodrowsandwich for lunch which Thor also gave a 5 star review. We finished our crawl at @fatjackscomicrypt where we randomly heard Aunt @wendyrollins on @wxpnfm over the stores speakers. He had quite the haul and it was an absolutely brilliant way to spend a Saturday. It was a great year with a lot of growth: physical, mental and emotional. I don’t remember my second grade year being filled with as much social drama, but that was the late 1900s. My biggest concern was whether or not Ms. Richards had a stack of yellow lined paper on our desk and some exorbitant number to write to by 3s. Baseball is my favorite. I never wanted to push my love of the sport on Thor or Delia. Last month I was checking the @phillies batting stats and Thor came over to ask what these were. Thor loves numbers, a lot, he was hooked. He said, Dad, I think I can hit a baseball.” My heart about exploded. We played wiffle all for the next few weeks and sure enough he could hit pitched balls. A few of his friends play in Mt. Airy fall ball and was allowed to jump in mid season. Today, with no practice, never having swung an aluminum baseball bat, ran bases, or fielded any live hits he had his first game. He went 1-4 with an RBI and a run scored. He loves it. Your birthday is a momentous occasion. This is the 8th such time we’ve celebrated it. It’s a day that was seared into your Moms and my memory as the single most incredible day of our lives. A day we ran a gamut of emotions as a routine checkup turned into an emergency c-section. This led to a month in the NICU. This has led us thru many seasons of growth and gratefulness that we get to celebrate today. 8. Years. Old. I know how we got here, but I’m not sure how it’s gone by this fast. I didn’t think I could love you more than the first time I saw all 5 total pounds of the two of you., but I can tell you with all certainty that I do. You’ve grown into amazing little people that I have the absolute privilege of calling my children. One day, years from now I hope you know I work so hard because I want nothing more than to provide for you. Whatever that means. These kids look incredible, and much like their conception my contributions were minimal and took less than 3 minutes. @kwow007 spent the afternoon applying makeup to perfection and seeing to it their outfits were on point. Lucky number 7. 2014 was 7 years ago. Almost to the minute 7 years ago the two of you came into this world earlier than any Somogyi had showed up for anything in history.
