Flat out. Let's talk about that. This is a 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 Race Car. Part of the fourth generation of 442 designed under Bill Mitchell, the 442 as a whole was a muscle car produced by the Oldsmobile division of General Motors over five generations from 1964 to 1987. The fourth generation Olds 442, introduced in 1978, continued on the downsized A-body platform introduced that year; it would also be used on Chevrolet's Malibu and Monte Carlo models, Pontiac's Grand Prix and Grand Am models and Buick's Regal among others. What the 442 was now was an option package on the Cutlass Salon "aeroback" model, being an entry-level trim; the car was also offered with all the engines of the Cutlass, from the 3.8L Buick V6 to the 5.0L Chevrolet V8. This was usually mated to a 3-speed manual although a THM200 automatic was also available. Distinctive elements of the 442 included contrasting striping on the rocker panels, lower doors and wheel wells, rear badging and various interior emblems. Any options available on the Cutlass Salon were also available on the 442. In 1979, the 442 largely remained the same as 1978, although the Hurst/Olds, based on the Cutlass Calais, rejoined the lineup. Production ended in 1980, with a four year hiatus before the name was revived in 1985. Now this casting was designed by Larry Wood and introduced in 1979 in the Speedway Specials segment of the mainline. This depicts a race-modified 442 with a single seat and fire suppression systems among other modifications. This casting saw nine known releases and was last seen in 1984. In 2012, this casting was retooled for a singular use in The Hot Ones series, now known as "442 Much". A curiosity: this race car does not appear to be based on any race car from any series in particular. #hotwheels #hotwheelssg #hotwheelscollectors #hotwheelscollector #hotwheelsusa #hotwheelsmalaysia #hotwheelsindonesia #hotwheelsindo #oldsmobile442 #oldsmobile #olds442 #transam #v8 #v8power #flatout442 #blackwall #blackwalls #speedwayspecials #442much #thisisnotyourfathersoldsmobile

Here's another of my Hot Wheels redline survivors, the 1970 release of the Porsche 917, made in the USA for the Grand Prix series. The design featured an opening rear engine compartment and a sticker sheet with the number "18" racing decal and rocker panel stripes with the word "Porsche". The casting was reissued in 1973 with enamel paint. In 1974 it featured tampos and was renamed the "P-917" during the Flying Colors era. The original casting was last released in the 1978 Speedway Specials series and was retooled in 2011 for the Hot Ones series. #hotwheels #hotwheelscollectors #diecastcars #porsche #porsche917 #hotwheelsredlines #redlines #diecastcollectors #grandprix #gradprixseries #spectraflame #flyingcolors #speedwayspecials #hotones #p917

Six shooter. Let's talk about that. This is an open-wheel race car designed by Elwood's Garage as an "exploratory concept" for entrance into Formula One. Ostensibly inspired by the Tyrrell P34, this concept, nicknamed the "Lickety Six" but officially unnamed, is powered by a 3.0L Cosworth DFV V8 and has a Hewland FG400 6-speed manual. It featured four 10-inch wheels up front and standard-sized wheels at back. From documentation I was able to grab, the car was given a shakedown test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway where it was noted to be quite some margin slower than other Formula One cars of the time. Ultimately the project was not pursued further due to the lack of a budget. One chassis was built, tagged "F1-1"; it is now on loan to Hot Wheels's Garage of Legends where it is on display along with many of Elwood's other creations. Now this casting was designed by Larry Wood and introduced in 1978 in the Flying Colors series. It also appeared in the Speedway Specials "patch" series, along with four other releases, making for a total of six. It was last seen in 1986 in white (but with the same graphics) as a Mexican exclusive. A curiosity: while ostensibly inspired by the Tyrrell P34 and other six-wheeled F1 cars of the time, this IS NOT a Tyrrell P34 and is a completely freelance design. #hotwheels #hotwheelssg #hotwheelscollectors #hotwheelscollector #hotwheelsusa #hotwheelsmalaysia #hotwheelsindonesia #hotwheelsindo #hotwheelsuk #f1 #formulaone #tyrrellp34 #tyrrell #sixwheeler #cosworthdfv #dfv #forddfv #licketysix #flyingcolors #speedwayspecials #blackwalls #blackwallstreet #gulf #gulfoil #gulfracing
