The Legend of Zelda animated show was a segment of the live action/animated series “The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!” that aired from September to December in 1989. The Zelda shorts aired on Friday editions of the show, with each episode running approximately 15 minutes. In the narrative of the shorts, Gannon is typically trying to capture the Trifoce of Wisdom from Zelda, whom Link serves as a protector. As the first two Zelda games gave very little characterization to Link and Zelda, production of the animated shorts was given free reign to write the story and characters in any way they saw fit. Link is portrayed as a brash, sarcastic knucklehead who constantly harasses Zelda, while Zelda is portrayed as more of a protagonist, joining Link on his adventures and using a magic bow as a weapon. A running gag has Link constantly trying to earn a kiss from Zelda, who rejects his advancements, leading Link to say his catchphrase “Well excuuuuuuse me, Princess!” a phrase he says 29 times during the series 13 episodes. The show was poorly received at the time as well as in retrospective reviews. Besides the CD-i games, the animated series is the only time Link has been portrayed speaking, something creator Shigeru Miyamoto notoriously insists should never happen. Despite the loose interpretation of the source material, the show did make clever use of some of the video games items, including Bombs and Shields. The show even explained that Link is able to carry all the items with him thanks to shrinking magic, use of his items was also accompanied by sound effects lifted directly from the game. The series was set for a second season but was canceled alongside The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! C’était les 1ère images & infos concrètes sur le jeu qu’il nous était donné de voir car il était jouable au Nintendo Space World 97. Rendez vous compte! Zelda en 3D! On a donc ici un aperçu qui nous fait déjà rêver & patienter avec un début d’euphorie! Magique. 🔎 Publicité : Encore une double page qui ferait tâche aujourd’hui, avec l’allusion à la couche d’ozone, mais ici, on a toute la badassitude de Duke Nukem! 🔖 Mini focus : On se régale encore une fois avec la soluce de Mario 64. Rien qu’a consulter les plans, les screens ou les descriptions, c’était comme si on était au cœur du jeu en pleine partie. C’est aussi pour ça qu’on feuilletait ces mags sans limite! 💙 Mon affect avec ce mag : Celui-ci est sans doute celui que j’ai le + poncé. Entre les News sur Zelda, les 3 1ères images de Banjo, le test de Goldeneye, l’article sur Diddy Kong Racing… j’en prenait plein les yeux! Je regardais en boucle le moindre screen. Limite je connaissais les jeux avant de les avoir à force de parcourir les images. Le rêve & l’insouciance de la jeunesse. Du coup j’ai du upgrader ce Mag récemment car je l’avais vraiment usé ^^.
