Thank you Ruth @ithacamaven ! With #waistbiggerthanhip the leg openings would usually be all floppy and weird if I tried to grade between all those sizes. I also added a scrap linen strip to the bottom edges before cutting and that gave me a nice deep hem facing (3rd photo) There are STILL stray threads from picking out the RTW shorts, and all the original stitching holes still show, but, I’m hoping a wash will help with all that 😉 Happy Friday! #SewOver50May #SewOver50 #BCSews #CanadaSews

Worship Jeans These jeans are to be treated as they are named, worshipped! I have toiled another jeans pattern twice and never was able to get the fit right. With the previous pattern my measurements ranged over 2-3 sizes between my hips and waist. And with a lot of adjustments I still couldn’t quite get a fit I was happy with. When this pattern popped up I was seeing these on my grid fitting my body type, and I’ll be honest - I was so confident that I didn’t toile and I went straight in with the jeans fabric that has been sitting in my stash for over a year waiting for the “right” pattern. I could not be more happy with the fit of these. The photos above are 2nd time wearing, from first thing in the morning to wearing and walking all day in them. The only adjustments I made was taking them in a little at the top and playing around with the waistband (I did that part 4 times!). Today's #memademay fit is the perfect pairing of @daughterjudypatterns #genrashirt (chartreuse linen size S) & #coetrouser combo. I've sewn many a pant at this point, but have really struggled with the sizing precision and the mental & emotional endurance required for sewing #hardpants -- more so while contending with a body that has changed since I started sewing and diving off the deep-end with another pattern that hasn't taken curvy bodies into consideration in their drafting, resulting in 3 crotch-eating unwearable toiles. I was ready to shelve my #hardpant journey till I ADHD-ed down a #topdowncenterout rabbit hole right as my feed was flooded with so many dreamy Coes, driving me deeper down the rabbit hole landing at @thecrookedhem's videos & posts on fitting pants. I was inspired and frankly desperately in need of thicker pants that fit for a late winter biz trip to Berlin. Thus here are my sand speckled canvas #CoeTrouser in a Size 8 - increased front rise by 1.5cm and back rise by 2cm, through my very first attempt at #TDCO - shortened length by 10cm cause I'm barely 5'2 - all in, this took me about 18~ hours taking things slooow with lots of breaks to muslin, make adjustments and complete my final garment - my experience sewing this with just written instructions was slightly foggy but it was 100% a user issue driven by impatience + I am generally a much better visual learner so I typically lean on videos instead. this was still the most stress-free hardpant sewing experience I've had thus far. - I've truly mucked up sewing my zipper on so this looks crotchier than it really is and initially thought these may need a full seat adjustment but a few wears in, the fabric has relaxed a little to a pretty decent fit, though my pockets have started to gape a little

Finally getting around to documenting my @makebytfs #TFScasspant. These pants have been on my make list for a long time and are inspired by @alexandria_arnold, @enderallsews, and @bethanylynne_makes. My measurements put me between a size 8-10 but after reading about others fit journeys, I decided to start with a size 4. I used the #TDCO method by @ithacamaven to make a toile. This led me to take about 1/2 inch off the front and back rises, and increase the dart intake very slightly for both back darts. With these mods, I made my first pair (last picture in black garbardine). I really took my time with the construction and they came out with beautiful finishing details, especially the welt pockets, but the fit was not what I had hoped. I'll post more pictures in my stories, but the rise still felt too high, the front crotch felt very long, and the length was awkwardly between full and ankle length. Also, just like @madeby_francesca, my waistband was at least an inch too short and I had to add length on the fly underlap. After discussing with @_call_me_al at a sewing meetup, I decided to try TDCO again but using a two leg toile so I could better adjust the crotch fit. This led me to take another 1/4 inch off of the front rise (3/4 inch in total) and another 1 inch from the back (1.5 inches in total)! I shortened the pant leg by about 2 inches to make them more cropped. I also made the front crotch hook more curved to better fit my body. This pair is the second to last picture, in a rust colored corduroy. I was quite pleased with this pair and felt like the fit was nearly perfect! For my third pair (pictured here in a muted green) I wanted to use a more structured fabric since my first two were quite drapey. I used the same mods as my second pair but added 1 inch back to the leg length to make them ankle length. I also opted for faux welt pockets and hook and bar closure. While it took quite awhile to get the fit right on these, I really do love the style of them! They're my most comfortable work pants with the best deep pockets! Fabric: 1 - cotton herringbone from @lyricalfabrics 2 - rust bubble corduroy, & 3 - black garbardine from @stylemakerfabrics
#daphnetrousers pattern from @modern_sewing_co for day 5 of #memademay2024 (also w/hand-sewn waistband for #okaymemademay). Details: after making a really tight (unwearable) toile, I decided it was finally time I tried the #tdco fitting method devised by the innovator @ithacamaven and explained in a fantastic YouTube series by @thecrookedhem. Took me a few watches to understand it, but once I tried it out it really clicked and led to the most comfortable trousers I’ve ever made 💝. When I made my toile I saw that I needed to add 1in to overall crotch length (used 19cm zip) and grade from 12/14 waistband to 16 hips. That was it! I can sit. I can bend to pick things up 🥲. I always hand-sew on waistbands now as it’s so much neater. I love the patterns from the @modern_sewing_co, the instructions are really so good. Made in the loveliest ecru recycled denim from @blackbirdfabrics, think it is 10.5oz, nicely relaxed after a day of wear. Hope they restock at some point. #MeMadeMay2024 Day 4 A long drive today to the Suffolk coast to spend the bank holiday weekend with my parents. So the comfort of jeans and a jumper is just what I need. 1. @closetcorepatterns #gingerjeans - my latest pair in indigo denim from @fabricgodmother I experimented with using #topdowncentreout to fit these, even though I've made this pattern several times. I cut the one leg 'toile' from the denim and fit that onto the waistband/yoke assembly. Seemed to work pretty well, just added a bit to the front rise, took a bit off the back and took in the side seam. Jumper is a great free pattern, #victorysweater by #jillkarinadesign @jillkarina I knit this with Christmas present yarn (Drops Alpaca). I've learnt from previous circular yoke jumpers to shorten the yoke. Maybe I’ll do a little intro for #memademay today. I’m Whitney, I started sewing in 1999 when I worked at Hancock Fabrics. I didn’t do a lot of sewing for many years but I picked it back up in 2020. I prefer to sew excessively elaborate things, but in the past year I’ve worked a lot on making clothes I’ll actually wear. I live in Vermont, having moved here in 2022 after being in the Bay Area, CA for 15 years. I’m a CFO and I’m also working on my bfa in art. Today I’m wearing a pair of #mndawnjeans I made with some twill I bought from #blackbirdfabrics in 2022. I’m thrilled with how these are constructed, and they are my pattern matching magnum opus but I am still not entirely sold on the pattern, it required a lot of fitting with #tdco. I also made these before I started working out regularly, so my thighs are much bigger than they were when I made them. Top is #remyraglan I made cropped after seeing @sewhouse7 post this mod, and I love it. Not pictured again is my Watson bralette. I have really been enjoying #sewnshownseated so I’ll try to do more of these as well. #sewover40 #memademay2024

🇩🇪 Ich habe mich nochmal an das Jeans-Thema gewagt. Genäht habe ich eine #msworkertrousers von @modern_sewing_co aus einem schönen, dunkelblauen Denim, den mir @cutiecakeswelt mal mitbestellt hatte. Der Stoff ist fest mit einem kleinen Stretch-Anteil. Angepasst habe ich die Hose natürlich auch - dieses zweite Mal allerdings sehr dezent und mit Hilfe der #topdowncenterout -Merhode. Ausgangspunkt war eine Größe 16, am Innenbein eine Größe 18. Schlussendlich habe ich in der Schritthöhe zwei behutsame cm weggenommen - das war fast zu wenig, sie sitzt recht hoch. Und ansonsten superbequem und ich trage sie definitiv sehr gerne! Generalprobe war kürzlich eine Tagesreise mit dem Zug - Reisetest bestanden! Diese Hose schicke ich hier auf Insta nun noch zum #memademittwoch und winke allen Mittänzerinnen 🇬🇧 I made the #msworkertrousers from @modern_sewing_co Fabric is a nice dark blue denim with a little comfort stretch. I made some adjustments using the #tdco #topdowncenterout method by Ruth @ithacamaven . My changes here subtle, I took about two centimetres from the crotch length as I did not want to over adjust the pants. Well, I could have gone for two more centimetres, the rise is really high. I like to wear them anyways and they even passed the travel-test on a daylong train journey a few days ago.

So I'm on a pants mission. 🚀 Comfortable, practical, but interesting and stylish pants... Can it be done? Enter the #ShopPant . With its fitted waist and hip, room in the thighs, and interesting detail on the hem, I kept being drawn to them and decided to try them out. This was supposed to be my wearable toile, and worn it definitely had been! 🤸 Swipe for range of movement test. The verdict? I won't be doing yoga in them, but I can do cool boyband poses and tie my shoes. And that's all that matters, right? 💘 Let's talk details! - Fabric: bought on @vinted to make my friend's pottery apron, and I had enough scrap fabric for pants! - Pattern: #ShopPants by @openstudiopatterns (sizing up to 131cm hip and 112cm waist) - I made a Size 3 based, with fitting alterations ⤵️ Oops 😬 I accidentally switched my front L and R pattern pieces, which means I had to flip all the zipper instructions, and luckily it all turned out fine. ↪️ Then came the fitting... Fitting pants is hard y'all! Enter the #TDCO -method (by @ithacamaven ) I'll go into more detail about fitting the pants in my next post. Be prepared to have your world changed forever!
