Vacation edition! Visiting the Fort Lauderdale area this week, it's vacation time. Just like at home, I started looking at restaurant menus that are unique and don't have the same tired offerings. @thefoundryfl was the perfect fit for my goal. My summer appetite has been a lot smaller. So, I chose to go with small plates. Short-Rib Flatbread first plate. Well seasoned, super tender short rib comes to life on a fllatbread topped with jalapeño, quattro formaggi, and red pepper aioli. Very bite was savory, spicy and explosive. I jumped right in and forgot to snap a picture. The star for me was the pictured plate of Grilled Octopus. First of all, I love grilled octopus. I make it at home a few times per year. So, I know how tender and delicious octopus can be. The General Manager of The Foundry, Craig, did not like the way my first plate of octopus arrived, so he had a fresher plate made. O-M-G! I'm glad he stepped in. I dined on the best grilled octopus I've ever had!!! Whatever ingredients that were used to braise my octopus prior to grilling was an awesome blend. The char on the octopus was just right, lending smoky flavor to the dish. My grilled octopus was served with arugula, sun-dried tomato oil, balsamic glaze. Olive tapenade crostini accompanied my dish. Every bite was sensual pleasure. Again, thank you Craig and to our server for the high level of service. Your hospitality was greatly appreciated. We felt like we had already known both of you for years. If you're in the area of Fort Lauderdale, ride north and stop in Pompano Beach for excellent service and flavorful food at The Foundry.
