Dreifusa lieta bija uzkurinājusi valsts antisemītus, un pat it kā inteliģentā sabiedrībā bija jādzird pret ebrejiem vērstu retoriku. Ar laika atstarpi vērtējot, jāatzīst - labi, ka Teodors vairs nepiedzīvoja Otro pasaules karu un nacistu okupāciju. Viens no viņa dēliem, 1893. gadā dzimušais Leons, ar savu ģimeni neizbēga daudzu Eiropas ebreju liktenim. Ģimene centās bēgt, taču pieķerti un vispirms internēti Dransī nometnē. 1943.gada 20.novembrī nacisti viņus deportēja uz Aušvicu. Ne Leons, ne viņa sieva Beatrise, ne dēls Bertrāns, ne meita Fanija no turienes vairs neatgriezās. Villa nu ir kultūrvēstures piemineklis un viens no Rivjēras lepnumiem. Period style private houses are nothing new, but they are seldom done in ancient Greek style & with such attention to detail as the Kerylos villa in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, a holiday home to Theodore Reinach & his family. Children even dressed as ancient Greeks when there. They were not fanatical though - meals were taken seated at the ordinary table, albeit with Greek styled service & cutlery. The piano, the bidet were disguised as cupboards. Furniture, walls, ceilings are just incredible and deserve separate posts. So fortunate that the villa has been given to Institute de France, not sold off after the owner's death and turned into another ordinary private house in the area, all interior decor lost, unique furniture sold out. My only regret is that the family didn't take one million pictures while there, Nicolas II family style. I could only find one blurred reproduction of Reinach's portrait in his study (I think). One of the upstairs rooms at Villa Kerylos, with one of the outstanding mosaic floors which grace most of its interiors. As everywhere in the house, there are no cords of any sort to prevent the public to go around the room and - visually - ruin the quality of his visiting experience. Mediterranean throwback, with the wonderful « Greek » Villa Kerylos, in Beaulieu-sur-Mer. Designed by architect Emmanuel Pontremoli for the French Academician Théodore Reinach and built between 1902 and 1908 right on the sea, it was bequeathed by him to the Institut de France and remains to this day the best house « of the Antiquity » reinvented at the beginning of the twentieth century. Throwback Thursday. In the early 190Os, Théodore Reinach, enamored with classical art and architecture, hired the architect Emmanuel Pontremoli to build a villa that replicated ancient Greece on a piece of land he had purchased in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, France. Shown here, two views of one salon in the resultant Villa Kérylos. The Klismos style chairs and chaise, designed by Mr. Reinach, based on those seen on Greek vases, are reportedly very uncomfortable. Fun fact: Théodore Reinach was a Renaissance man. Vue depuis la villa Kérylos à Beaulieu-sur-Mer - La villa Kérylos, à Beaulieu-sur-Mer, a été construite par l'architecte Emmanuel Pontremoli entre 1902 et 1908 sur un promontoire rocheux surplombant la Méditerranée, sur la route du bord de mer. Cette habitation construite et meublée sur le modèle des villas de la Grèce antique du iie et du ier siècle av. J.-C. pour l'archéologue et spécialiste de l'époque hellénistique, Théodore Reinach (1860-1928), est léguée à l'Institut de France en 1928. La riche décoration intérieure (esprit des fresques et silhouette du mobilier) et l’austérité des façades sur mer forment un exemple d’une architecture « pittoresco-académique » à tendance néo-antique et Art nouveau. Des matériaux précieux ont été utilisés : marbre de Carrare, albâtre, bois exotiques et citronnier. Les meubles en bois sont incrustés d'ivoire, de bronze et de cuir. La villa est gérée depuis le 1er janvier 2016 par le Centre des monuments nationaux. Villa Kérylos, in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, was built by architect Emmanuel Pontremoli between 1902 and 1908 on a rocky promontory overlooking the Mediterranean, on the road to the sea. This house built and furnished on the model of the villas of ancient Greece of the 1st and the 1st century BC. J. - C. for the archeologist and specialist of the Hellenistic period, Théodore Reinach (1860-1928), is bequeathed to the Institute of France in 1928. The rich interior decoration (spirit of the frescoes and silhouette of the furniture) and the austerity of the sea façades form an example of a "picturesque-academic" architecture with a neo-antique and Art Nouveau style. Precious materials have been used: Carrara marble, alabaster, exotic wood and lemon tree.
