Magnifique vue depuis la villa Kerylos Implantée à la pointe de la baie des Fourmis, la Villa Kérylos est comme posée sur la mer. Tourné vers l'horizon, le regard se porte au loin, en Grèce, au coeur de l'Antiquité. Quelques pins et oliviers témoignent encore de la végétation présente avant même sa construction, lorsque cet éperon rocheux était encore sauvage. Théodore Reinach et Emmanuel Pontremoli décidèrent de préserver ces arbres afin d’inscrire la villa dans un environnement naturel évoquant la Grèce et les rives de la Méditerranée. Du sommet de la terrasse, sous la pergola, le regard se perd encore au loin, échappant au temps. Daydreaming of Kérylos. Looking at photos from last summer brings back he sound of the waves breaking outside the open windows, the pine-scented breeze and cool marble floors. The vision of archaeologist Théodore Reinach, Villa Kérylos was conceived as an ancient Greek noble villa adapted to early twentieth-century life by architect Emmanuel Pontremoli in 1902. Like so many others who keep coming back to revisit the beauty of the place, I am always struck by the elegance of the natural colours and materials, and the harmonious layout around a peristyle which seem to remove you from the turmoils of the world to a place of calm. The furniture and light fixtures - inspired by ancient models - were all designed for the house, coming together seamlessly in a total work of art. I enrolled at The Institut de Français for a one month course of study and stayed in the hills just up from the town centre. Not only is Villefranche in itself an amazing place to visit – and stay – it is also the gateway to the magnificent Cap Ferrat, with hidden beaches, exquisite architecture, the Villa Rothschild, and the nearby Villa Kerylos.
