Me and Leigh watched ‘Maboroshi’ again recently, the anime where in our eyes, the car is the star! In it, the family Pao helps save the day. As full of personality as the human characters who drive it, it goes head to head with a van (what we think is either a Toyota Liteace or a Mistubishi Delica?) in a race to the finish, driven by a determined teen trapped in time. The Pao is incredibly faithfully observed - right down to the soun ds and little shakes and wobbles as it stops and starts - but you’ll also spot some curious anomalies! We did the tracking (wheel alignment) on the Pao last week, and were delighted to see that Britannia Tyres’ system has not only the correct settings for Japanese imports, not only the EXACT settings for a Pao, but options within that, AND settings for the Figaro, Be-1 and S-Cargo too. Went for a good long walk around Retro Rides at Mallory Park on Sunday, taking Blue Pao who, as is often the case, was almost Last Man Standing. It’s not always about the grand mods and big fixes. This original Pao tape tray was missing its dividers so no tapes could be stored. We cut some replacements to size from Falcon foam PVC board, filed and bevelled the edges then mixed up a colour from acrylic paint, to match the faded plastic.
