En 1984, Nissan crée la Pike Factory, un département chargé de concevoir des véhicules décalés au look néo-rétro. Pour rappel, cela se situe 10 ans avant les New Beetle et Mini. La première voiture de ce nouveau département est la Be-1. En 1987, à l'occasion du salon de Tokyo, Nissan présente deux nouveaux modèles : la S-Cargo et la Pao, et c'est cette dernière qui nous intéresse ! Ce modèle s'inspire des voitures populaires européennes des années 60. Les vitres arrière s'ouvrent de la même façon que celles d'une 2CV, et le capot possède également cinq nervures. La forme générale reprend celle de la Mini, et le look un peu baroudeur est dans l'esprit de la 4L. Pour acheter une Pao, il fallait simplement signer un bon de commande, et Nissan produirait le modèle en fonction du nombre de demandes. Onto a super quirky find in Africa some days ago. This lovely Nissan Figaro. Many enthusiasts are charmed by those cute and happy looks. It’s full of 1950s and 1960s clues from various European cars of that time, but not only a look at the interior makes it clear that this is a relatively modern car. In fact, the Figaro was made from 1991-1992 in Japan and was one of the earlier retro cars which nowadays a lot more common. Originally only sold new in Japan, but due to its cool design, used Figaros became really popular in other countries. Just around 20,000 examples have been made in total. It’s estimated that almost one third of the total production has been exported to the UK over the time. Which makes sense since they drive on the wrong side of the road as well…🤫 Apparently one example also found its way to Namibia, where the cars are RHD too. Durant les années 80, Nissan crée un bureau de design nommé la Pike Factory, une branche qui aura pour objectif de concevoir des véhicules dont la production sera limitée et avec un look néo-rétro, pour rappel nous sommes 10 ans avant la New Beetle. 4 voitures seront conçues par cette branche : la Be-1, la Pao, la S-Cargo et la Figaro et c'est la 2e qui nous intéresse aujourd'hui. En 1989, la Pao est présentée est c'est un hommage aux populaires européennes des années 50-60 avec des airs de Mini, de 4l de Fiat 500 mais aussi de 2cv comme le prouve le capot à 5 nervures et les vitres arrières. Pour commander cette voiture il fallait remplir un bon de commande et Nissan fabriquait autant d'exemplaires que de bons de commande, dans le cas de la Pao plus de 50 000 exemplaires verront le jour, tous réservés au Japon. Aujourd'hui si vous voulez vous procurer un exemplaire, il faudra aller le chercher au pays du soleil levant ou de l'autre côté de la Manche.
