Comebacks are grossly difficult but utterly enjoyable. Haven’t been able to pedal since last year’s festive season. I just haven’t found the ‘Just Do It’ motivation. Until my joints are kinda telling me my Uric acid might be a lil above crazy level. Today’s ride was exactly what I needed. Was going to vlog the ride but just about getting into the groove, the GoPro died. I had 3 batteries to change with, but it won’t turn on. Oh, well with a sigh, I pushed on. Thinking this ride must be something I need to be ultra focused on. Just me, the wind and the crunch of tiny pebbles on the road. Thought I needed to rediscover for myself how good it felt to ride bikes and push through pain so I can genuinely share that experience to you. There is a shift from declaring certain areas as National Parks to Protected landscapes. The shift has been decided by design. As our law now takes into account those people or locals or natives inhabiting the area. Under the old law, National Parks mainly protect the area and the wildlife. Inhabitants are excluded from the area and unrecognized if not displaced. While the new law that declares Protected Landscapes recognizes the locals and tribes inhabiting the area and works out a sustainable arrangement for all people to have a regulated access to these areas. So let’s keep in mind that when we visit these Protected Landscapes we respect the land, the wildlife and most certainly the people. Leaving trash on the trails and summits is a no no. Please. That’s the least one can do. These pictures were taken by a stranger we chanced upon at the summit. Yep. We still can trust people to do good for us. Even in the most remote places. People care. It’s just in our nature. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the name of the hiker who took the Akiki trail to get to the summit. We went on our way after giving thanks and leaving him with a friend whose photos he’s also taking. To where the adventure takes us. It’s almost automatic now to bring with me both the GoPro and Insta 360 X3 to any adventure. On Mt Pulag I had the GoPro mounted on my shoulder strap and the X3 on a 3M Carbon pole. It may not look like it but we reached Mt Pulag’s summit at 5.15am Feb 18, 2024 when it was all pitch black (thank you Inah for the long exposure picture). Hiking from the Ranger Station of Bokod at 1am. Tried our best to stay warm despite the very cold weather. This is the first time we tried car camping. Having the car at your actual campsite as part of your setup. At Kindao campsite, which was essentially a cliff overlooking San Nicolas, Pangasinan, we had the car facing the exit and situated so it blocks most of the wind ramming against the tents and tarp. These things you learn from watching and winging it when you’re in the camp. It kinda grows on you, it has too. Your camping experience relies on it. How convenient it was to have your vehicle at arms length. You effectively have a secured vault for your valuables. A huge storage and the peace of mind that if all things go bonkers, you have an exit plan in place. Kindao, despite the steep cliff that it is, has a tire path that a lowered car and a skilled driver may navigate. (Manage your expectations) I had Wiki to spot me on the path and position the car as how we needed it to be. The Honda fit passed with flying colors on being a car camper. Equipped with a roof rack, it actually help up pretty well. But boy, would I love to have a CRV. 😊 To peeps who are thinking against car camping with small vehicles, it’s doable. There are small car-friendly campsites. You just have to go out and look. There’s more to life than 8 to 5.
