On Wednesday, the City of Spokane reopened Downriver Park! This has created another space for outdoor enthusiasts and rafters alike to enjoy the river here in Spokane. This was one of numerous water reclamation projects that help protect our rivers, allowing us to fully enjoy a clean and healthy ecosystem and see the full natural beauty of this city. Ribby the Salmon joined us as we prepared for launching our raft! He is the mascot for the Spokane Indians baseball team, and we’re excited he’s on board! DAY 2: Sendero Historico (GR1) - 25km. We made it through the night a little battered by wind but intact. It is absolutely freezing though and we make our breakfast while still in our sleeping bags and then we put on all our clothes. It's an easy day of walking along tracks to ease us in and we see so many vultures up above, riding on the thermals. We get to Loarre by 11am and find a bar open so we have a coffee and take a break - noticing they have a shrine to pigs 😄. We end up chatting to a pilgrim hiking a camino to Santiago over two months, having started in Barcelona. Impressive as she's 23 and it's her first ever long distance walk - yet another camino route that we might consider. We manage to buy some bread and cheese from the bakery, as well as a bag of his leftover pastries - they look like yum yums but made with honey. The sun comes out and it feels glorious to sit in the square and eat fresh food, feeding the local cat our leftovers. A fruit van even pops through town so we can buy oranges. Then it's off to the next villages - Anies and Bolea. We make a pasta dinner in the square in Bolea and then hike up into the hills where we camp outside an abandoned convent next to what looks like a refuge with a huge porch (but it's locked). It comes in handy when we're woken by gale force winds at 2am that are flattening the tent. We have to get out, unpeg and drag the entire thing into the porch where there's enough shelter to stop the poles snapping. Can we talk about Body Neutrality? Body positivity focuses on cultivating acceptance towards a positive body image through unconditional self-love. Body neutrality does not involve constant positivity but rather an acknowledgement and appreciation of all the things the body can do, regardless of what it looks like. I do practice this by honouring what my body can do! I love how mine can take me swimming, hiking, riding and running. And I put effort and love into it to keep it running as a well oiled machine. I am working on accepting the wobbly and wrinkly bits. I don’t have abs but that’s ok. I am two stone heavier than I once once 4 years ago. But I also want to be healthy rather than skinny or lean. Muscle mass is heavier, so I’m cool with the way i look. Why I post pictures in my shorts or swimwear enjoying myself and the outdoors. I respect anyone for the way they look and accept them like I am better trying to accept my body with all its scars. Your body is your business and body neutrality is important. Praise your body and be kind to it and about it! Day trip to Delphi- I joined a one-day tour for a trip to Delphi, located three hours northwest of Athens. Our guide had many stories to share about Greek mythology and the history of the region. I learned the origin of the term “marathon”! The ruins that remain of the Temple of Apollo and the site of Delphi are 2500 years old! Some pieces are in the nearby archeological museum. THE DARKEST WHITE by esteemed author Eric Blehm is both vast and encompassing —like the vertical white tundra that breathed life into the legend of snowboarder Craig Kelly, only to entomb, or perhaps enshrine, that legend years later in one angry swallow. Blehm’s account of the iconic life of Craig Kelly moves the reader along like a snowboarding instructor or backcountry guide might do a willing upstart. Blehm begins with an easy run down the bunny slope of snowboard history, at the same time easing us into Craig Kelly’s backstory. Then were led by colorful characters into intermediate terrain like training, competition and locales, and so much more. In time we’re floating down 30 degree powder shoots and majestic glacial faces right beside Craig Kelly himself. At that point the story becomes riveting—and sadly, quite haunting. Blehm’s vivid descriptions, along with survivor accounts of the horrific avalanche that buried thirteen people—including Craig Kelly—made me feel at times uneasy, even claustrophobic. And I couldn’t help but feel great sympathy for not only the victims and their families, but also for the guides who bear the weight of guilt that comes with such a tragic loss of life to many in their care. It would be natural to lay blame for mistakes made that fateful day solely on the experienced lead guide—a legend himself—or his apprentice, but as one reads this book, along with the facts and interviews lain within its pages, it’s clear how easily mistakes can be made when trying to communicate across such wide and remote, towering mountain terrain, even in the best weather conditions, which did not exist that day. Frühlingskonzert der Stadtkapelle Dinkelsbühl 🎼🎺 Samstag, 27.04.2024 19.30 Uhr Auch dieses Jahr findet wieder das traditionelle Frühlingskonzert der Stadtkapelle in der Schranne in Dinkelsbühl statt. Musikdirektor Johannes Krauß hat sich viele Gedanken zum Programm gemacht und ein anspruchsvolles Repertoire zusammengestellt. 🎺 Der Klangkörper präsentiert sich dabei einmal mehr als sinfonisches Blasorchester - von Klassik über traditionell zu sinfonischer, moderner Blasmusik. 🎺 Das neue Konzertprogramm enthält neben Marsch und Polka auch Solisten, Kompositionen von Gioachino Rossini, Otto M. Schwarz oder der schwedischen Popgruppe ABBA sowie bekannte Melodien aus Film und Musical. Somit ist für jeden Blasmusikfan etwas dabei. 🎼 Der Eintritt ist frei. Die Donauinsel – kurz auch die „Insel“ genannt – ist eine zwischen 1972 und 1988 errichtete, 21,1 km lange und bis zu 250 m breite künstliche Insel zwischen der Donau und der einige Meter tiefer liegenden Neuen Donau im Stadtgebiet von Wien und Klosterneuburg. Anfangs als Hochwasserschutz gedacht ist sie heute auch ein beliebter Freizeitort. Hier kann man baden, ganz im Norden und ganz im Süden (Lobau) auch nackt. Spazieren, laufen, Radfahren und Rollerskaten. Es gibt hier auch unzählige Gastronomie Unternehmen. Bekanntester Teil ist der Copa Beach (früher Copa Kagrana) Hier kann man in der warmen Jahreszeit auch wunderbar tanzen 🕺💃.
