TNA Impact May 9th 2024 Review (Part 1): - The System held a championship celebration A good way to open the show with the heels being extremely cocky about their success. I like that they’re having Ryan Nemeth fill in whilst Nic Nemeth recovers from his injury. - First Class def. The FBI The FBI are showing potential due to their increased popularity but they lost quickly in this one. Meanwhile, First Class continue to stack wins, hopefully for something big. 4/10 - Sound Check with Kon and Steph De Lander There is nothing to say here apart from that segment was an absolute pile of horse s**t. - Albany Tornado match: The Rascalz def. Cody Deaner and Jake Something A decent match with Something’s power mixing well with The Rascalz’s athleticism. This also marked the fourth consecutive loss in TNA for Something, which sucks. 6/10 - Interview with Mike Santana This was a good interview segment overall. TNA Impact April 25th 2024 Review: - Mike Santana def. Myron Reed A quick win from Santana to carry forward his momentum from the Rebellion PPV. 3/10 - Josh Alexander def. Frankie Kazarian to earn a TNA World Championship match A good match but they went less than 10 minutes due to both men being in brutal PPV matches. They have proven before they can do much better if they get more time. 7/10 - Interview with First Class Joe Hendry will not be apologising next week and we all know that. I’m just hoping it’s one of his signature songs because I’ve missed them and they’re bloody hilarious. - Xia Brookside def. Ash by Elegance A short match with a surprising outcome but it makes sense because now Ash isn’t as protected. It’s smart booking because she won’t be winning the title anytime soon. 5/10 - Handicap match: Sami Callihan def. The Good Hands It fits the storyline well but do The Hands need to be consistently treated like jobbers. They can’t be taken seriously as opposition to anyone on the entire roster sadly. 0/10 - Eddie Edwards def. Nic Nemeth A good main event as Nemeth continues to be the underdog with the odds stacked against him. I just hope he doesn’t lose too much because that will just hurt him. 7/10 Verdict: 6/10 A decent episode but underwhelming due to short matches and a bunch of backstage interviews to build to the next PLE. That’s the problem with it coming only two weeks after the Rebellion PPV. Is it because of arena availability? I’d certainly hope they’re not letting that dictate their PLE calendar. TNA Rebellion 2024 Review (Part 2): - Last Man Standing match: Josh Alexander def. Hammerstone They’ve had three banging matches on TNA PLEs this year and that’s amazing. This was almost 20 minutes of brutality and a bunch of fantastic spots in a match type that can be difficult to execute. I think Hammerstone needed the win more but that’s alright. 7/10 - Jordynne Grace (c) def. Steph De Lander to retain the TNA Knockouts World Championship That match is the definition of overbooking but I have to admit that I enjoyed every last second of it. You had PCO, Kon, The Good Hands and Sami Callihan all get involved. I really hope we get a better run for Callihan here in TNA now that he’s back again. 7/10 - Moose (c) def. Nic Nemeth to retain the TNA World Championship It was decent but the finish wasn’t the best with Moose not properly connecting with the spear on Nemeth. Their chemistry just didn’t feel like it was fully there, which sucks a bit. I don’t blame either man, that just happens in the business sometimes unfortunately. 6/10 Verdict: 7/10 Not the strongest night for matches but it was packed with great moments and surprises. It’s great to see Callihan, Mike Santana and Matt Hardy all make their returns to boost the TNA roster. Now, we need some big signings for the Knockouts division. The Last Man Standing match was the best of the night with the X-Division Title match in close second. Nothing really stood out as better than just good though. The main event should’ve been better and left me a little disappointed. TNA Impact April 18th 2024 Review: - Hammerstone def. Guido It was a squash match but it was the rare example of a fun squash match. As a heel, Hammerstone is fantastic and I’m excited to see more from him as time goes on. 4/10 - Joe Hendry def. LSG A promo between Hendry and Rich Swann would’ve been better than a squash. 0/10 - Grizzled Young Veterans and Mustafa Ali def. Cody Deaner, Jake Something and Rhino A good, action packed match and nearly no near falls, which made the finish feel more important. Ali’s move set fits a face but he has the personality to fit more of a heel. 7/10 - Rosemary def. Jody Threat I didn’t like this because Rosemary just can’t keep up with how good Threat is sadly. The amount of grunting in this match was more comedic than intense feeling in my eye. 4/10 - The System (c) def. The Motor City Machine Guns to retain the TNA World Tag Team Championship This should’ve been a proper send off for MCMG but instead they continued to play up the tension. They would’ve known this was their last match so do it properly. 7/10 - Moose confronted Nic Nemeth It was a good promo before Rebellion with both men making good points before their title match. Nemeth has felt like a big breath of fresh air in this current run here in TNA. Verdict: 6/10 A decent show where the build to the PLE was better than the matches. For me, the 6-man tag was the match of the night. I liked the Tag Title match but it was too predictable because MCMG had already left TNA. I hope they don’t move to AEW because those rosters are too full already. TNA Impact March 21st 2024 Review (Part 2): - Ash by Elegance def. Seleziya Sparkz Another dominant win for Ash which is good because they’re building her up as a tough opponent. Her power and moveset looks good and I love her Swanton finisher. 3/10 - Moose confronted Nic Nemeth Moose’s section was really rushed which is odd for a show that’s been pre-taped. I like the storyline justification they used for why this Title match has been set for the PLE. - Jordynne Grace (c) def. Tasha Steelz to retain the TNA Knockouts World Championship A good match even if Steelz never had a chance to win the title, she did manage a good comeback though. However, it still didn’t take much for Grace to win. 7/10 Verdict: 6/10 A decent show this week. It’s good to see TNA focus more on in-ring promos and not just backstage bits. It helps feuds tick over each week without cramming the card full. We had good words from Nemeth and Eric Young plus Mustafa Ali on commentary to establish his feud with Jake Something. The opening match was the match of the night as it had banging performances by Leon Slater and Kevin Knight. Grace was never losing her title here but I wonder who she’ll face next since Ash seems preoccupied with Xia Brookside. TNA Sacrifice 2024 Review (Part 2): - Grizzled Young Veterans and Mustafa Ali def. Time Machine A very good match made even better by the amount of storyline development. I half expected miscommunication within TM or even an Alex Shelley heel turn but we didn’t get that. Nice to see GYV bounce back with a win after recently losing the title shot. 7/10 - Jordynne Grace (c) def. Tasha Steelz and Xia Brookside to retain the TNA Knockouts World Championship A decent match that made it feel (at times) that there could be a title change. Despite that, Grace was the only logical option which made the match less exciting. Credit to Brookside who showed the kind of offence that made her stand out here. 6/10 - Moose (c) def. Eric Young to retain the TNA World Championship They put on a good match despite there being no chance that Young would win the title. However, I expected The System to interfere rather than Frankie Kazarian. That suggests that they’ll have a rematch next month at Rebellion so that’s kinda cool. 7/10 Verdict: 7/10 A very good PLE. The matches were good and we got great storyline development. The best match of the night was Steve Maclin and Nic Nemeth. The intensity from their promos transferred well into a match. I’d love a rematch. I enjoyed the whole card apart from the Knockouts Tag Title match which was a short, surprise title change. The other match I’d recommend is Josh Alexander vs Hammerstone because it was very different to their first match. TNA No Surrender 2024 Review (Part 2): - No Surrender match: Moose (c) def. Alex Shelley to retain the TNA World Championship Too much interference and too heavy a focus on the people holding the towels and not the actual match. It was predictable that Moose would retain and the stipulation didn’t excite me. It wasn’t even a deadly submission that got Moose the victory. 6/10 - Jordynne Grace (c) def. Gisele Shaw to retain the TNA Knockouts World Championship Despite having the build with perhaps the least story on the show, the match itself probably had some of the most story on the show. The finish was a bit rushed but put over Grace’s dominant finish. I do think she’ll move on from TNA soon though. 7/10 - Mustafa Ali def. Chris Sabin (c) to win the TNA X-Division Championship A great match, the rightful main event and a nice methodical start to put over Ali as a heel. He showed great athleticism which you could see Sabin struggled to counter which is good. I also like that The Good Hands got involved but not in the match’s finish. 7/10 Verdict: 6/10 It was a decent show overall with only the main event really standing out. The crowd really got into that one. Having Ali make his TNA debut in the PLE main event was a smart move and the crowd popped for him. It was match of the night with the Tag Title match also impressing me. I’d have given the main event an 8/10 had it not started off quite so slowly. Everything else was either average or decent. Nothing outstanding. Everything apart from the Tag Title match in Part 1 of my review was skippable. I’m not that excited to see Eric Young challenge for the World Title. The World Title match here felt lacklustre due to the stipulation. The Knockouts Title match was too short. It was strange as well that Alexander had only a decent match. TNA No Surrender 2024 Review (Part 1): - Eric Young def. Frankie Kazarian to earn a TNA World Championship match at Sacrifice The match was decent but I think it was too early in the feud to have a match this big. I also don’t feel Young actually wanted to get revenge on Kazarian for all he had done to him. Had this match had that proper story investment, it would have been better. 6/10 - Best of 3 Series Final: ABC (c) def. Grizzled Young Veterans to retain the TNA World Tag Team Championship A slow start but later became a great match that fully captured the crowd’s investment. I kinda wanted GYV to win the titles but they’ve shown they deserve success. 7/10 - PCO def. Kon via DQ A slow dose of beating the p**s out of each other before the unfortunate DQ finish. 4/10 - MK Ultra def. Decay (c) to win the TNA Knockouts World Tag Team Championship I’m just happy Decay lost the titles because as you know, I’m not their biggest fan. I’m very excited to see Dani Luna and Jody Threat challenge them for the titles. 5/10 - Josh Alexander def. Simon Gotch They tried to put on a good match but this was underwhelming by Alexander’s usual standards. Gotch’s move set isn’t brilliant but I did like the Bulldog Choke that he got locked in. TNA Impact February 22nd 2024 Review: - Chris Sabin def. Jason Hotch A decent match despite its predictability as Hotch had some good offence and showed strong chemistry with Sabin. Sabin is just insane at making people look better. 6/10 - Simon Gotch def. Jack Price A squash match to make Gotch look strong going into his match at No Surrender. 4/10 - Steve Maclin def. Trent Seven The second half was good but the first half was just a boring beatdown on Seven from Maclin. It was good to see the crowd trying to cheer Seven back into the match. 6/10 - Eric Young def. Big Damo It was a cool move to have Frankie Kazarian bring out Young’s former NXT tag partner to face. It was also interesting to see Young get the win using the neutraliser move. 5/10 - Ash by Elegance def. Savannah Thorne A nice debut for Ash to establish herself as a dominant woman with lots of athleticism. She could very easily be built up as a future title contender if they do things right. 4/10 - The System def. Kevin Knight and Time Splitters A fantastic main event with a brilliant final sequence that descended into chaos. Alex Shelley played a minor role in this match, likely to protect him for his title shot. 7/10 Verdict: 7/10 A good go-home show for No Surrender. They really did a final push by using everyone in the card in some capacity. We didn’t see Nic Nemeth on the PLE so they’re saving his big PLE debut for the future. It’ll be an exciting match when it happens. TNA Hard to Kill 2024 Review (Part 2): - Call Your Shot cash-in: Jordynne Grace def. Trinity (c) to win the TNA Knockouts World Championship A very slow start but it turned into probably the best match of Trinity’s career here in TNA. Grace is probably the best woman currently in the TNA Knockouts division. She’s the right choice to carry the title and the division into this new TNA era. 8/10 - Feast or Fired cash-in: Moose def. Alex Shelley (c) to win the TNA World Championship Won’t win any match of the year awards but it was a good way to end the first TNA PPV of 2024. Moose sold brilliantly and I’m a little surprised he won the title and did it clean. That just makes his spear look like such a devastating finisher which I like. 7/10 Verdict: 8/10 A wonderful way to say TNA is back baby! Only two matches (not counting PCO and Dango’s DQ finish) felt like a let down. The action was really good with the X-Division title match being the match of the night and I gave out two more 8s. Had the ending of Alexander and Hammerstone been more logical, that might’ve got a 9. The main event was good but not massively memorable. I’m interested to see how Moose’s title run pans out. Big surprise with the TNA debut of Nic Nemeth, who should have a good run here in 2024. Nemeth vs Moose should be a good match. Brookside and GYV also had good debuts and I’m excited to see Dana Brooke in TNA now as Ash by Elegance. The crowd was crazy hot for the first show back. I still think it was a bad idea to basically take a two month break but this was one hell of a comeback. Great show tonight even with an Anti-Climatic finish, in my opinion, to end the show. I had flashbacks to when Kazarian and Michael Shane were X Division Champion during the opening Triple Threat. Trey made Moose look better than anyone else has yet. Really interested in the story between Moose and EC3, so far.
