Haze was super in our XC session @st_leonards_equestrian Launceston. Back in May I won a schooling session by correctly guessing the number of hay bales they harvested. We finally got around to going today! All the fences from the BE were there from 80-novice. Haze flew around the 100 and novice before we went for a nice long gallop in preparation for Bicton. Launceston is still available for XC hire so please make the most of them. Itβs an incredibly easy drive just 3mins off the A30. Sorry for the stone cold silence. Iβve been very busy and contemplating eventing the rest of the summer. Lots has been happening including qualifying for the Pony Club Championships which I am at now! Bug qualified for the open dressage and intermediate eventing. Haze qualified for the intermediate dressage and eventing. Bug sadly has a tendon injury from Bicton BE so has not joined us. But Haze is here and we have the eventing starting tomorrow. Superstar boys on Sunday at Launceston. π₯π π«π« BE90open with Bug in a competitive section. He finished on his dressage of 25.8 which was fabulous! We havenβt even been XC schooling this year so he was superb. π₯ BE100 with Haze in a very very competitive section of 45. 2nd after dressage with 27.5. You maybe wondering where I have been. Or not π. Last week I had the RC qualifier at Pontispool with Haze. It started off amazing with a 25.5 dressage (changed to 29.5 as all scores bumped up). Then I had a disastrous SJ that had me questioning if I could even ride anymore (bit dramatic I know). So I took Haze to have a lesson with Gail which was fantastic as we managed to replicate what I did and correct it. So with a huge confidence boost I took Haze and Bug to Bicton SJ yesterday. It was Bugs first event in nearly 9 months so we did both the 90 and 100. We went clear in the 90 and came team 2nd. And then 4th in the 100 and won as a team. Haze had an incredible round too to win the 100 overall and his team came 2nd! I am chuffed to bits with them both as they jumped their hearts out. The only downside was they were both listening to me, including pilot errors so I still need to scratch up on my riding. Axe Vale PC did an amazing job holding the event and I really hope there are more unaffiliated events at Bicton. What a star. Continuing our winning streak Haze was fantastic at our local show. After a hairy arrival involving a loose horse taking a liking to Haze, he held his nerve to win prizes in all his classes. We won 5 out of 7 classes and then got champion of ring 4! Ever got the wrong day for a competition? Well thatβs what happened to me at 7am on Saturday. When piggy (my dog) was sick on the carpet just before 7 I checked my phone for the time. I saw a notification from my pony club and checked it. βGood luck to all our members competing todayβ hmmmm thatβs weird the competition is tomorrow? Nope. My showjumping round was in under 3 hours and I was in my PJs in Exeter, Bug was in Wellington and the competition was at Chard. After bundling most of my clothes into a bag I fled up to Bug. I dragged him in from the field straight into the horse box to leave. Once I got to chard I decided it maybe time to change out of my PJs. Cue the discovery that I will be competing braless. Miraculously I got there on time. Although I had time to get shavings out of his tail he did remain unplaited. We then went on to have a fabulous double clear with two tough tracks. Big lessons learnt here. 1. Be happy if your dog is ever sick again. 2. Pack extra underwear to be sure you have it. Not just because you will be sh****ing yourself the whole way. 3. You physically cannot check the day/date of your competition enough. Even check the year because I have looked at old show schedules before π Luckily all ended well here. Well yesterday was full of highs and lows. I started off with a PB dressage of 20. I couldnβt believe it when I heard in the SJ arena. Then 2 poles still left me in 1st. Followed by possibly my worst low of a stop XC. I was devastated. Luckily the SOVRC team was amazing and won so we still qualify for the champs!! I took haze for a walk the other day. His first time out in 2 weeks! He was super and really enjoyed it. Yesterday I brought him in from the field and found he had been messing around. *graphic warning* Today was the start of our two day camp. A perfect day with no clouds in the sky or wind. To start with we had dressage 2hrs with no stirrups π Haze was super and felt the best heβs been. Unfortunately afterwards I discovered his sarcoid wound had burst. After seeking advice we carried on for XC in the afternoon. I plugged it with Vaseline and avoided the water. Again he was amazing (and considering we didnβt have a martingale or breastplate!). Upon returning home the vet agreed that we should now allow the wound to heal and stick to walk for a few weeks. Sadly this does mean the end to the start of the Eventing season for us. However there is good news on the horizon in the form of an unfit and hairy Bug! I am so lucky to be able to take him tomorrow. It will be fun to get him out again and not waste the last day of camp. Iβm sure he will be thrilled when I load him up tomorrow π. Our new castle!! All to ourselves and Haze has a stable on the ground floor with the kitchen right next to it! Haze and I have a very busy week ahead. Tomorrow we have our first competition in 7 months!! On Sunday Monday we have camp at Pontispool doing dressage, SJ, XC and gallops. Then to really get under Hazes skin we have another XC session on the Friday. We had a lesson last night and he was super! Haze was shod on Thursday. His shoeing routine varies depending on the season. Over winter it can be stretched to 7 even 8 weeks when he is on holiday. Then in the competition season it is every 5 weeks and sometimes 4 if I have two major competitions in a month. π΄ This week I am going to start cantering Haze.
