ICCA is excited to announce this seasons reopening with the announcement of our first 2024 exhibit - the Youth Art Exhibit. The show will include work submitted by young artists from across Inverness County. To bring this exhibit together, members of the ICCA programming committee reached out to schools across the county, inviting students from all grades to participate. A wide range of work will be featured, and it will be a special chance for students to see their work professionally exhibited in a gallery space. The opening reception will be held May 5th, from 2-4pm. The show will run from May 5th - May 25th. Gallery hours are Tuesday - Sunday from 12-5pm. Learn about the benefits of local, out-of-province and international residencies, as well as the differences between structured programs and independent research models. Posted @withregram • @visualartsns 🎉DEADLINE EXTENDED TO APRIL 2🎉 Eligibility: This residency is open to any professional artist who is a member of Visual Arts Nova Scotia. Residency at ARCAC: 4 weeks (of the artist’s choice) between May 1 and June 30, 2024 (1 week planning to take place at least 2 weeks in advance of the start date) VANS in Residence provides a stipend to support the artist, a studio space, as well as support from VANS and ARCAC to help to make the residency a rich experience for the artist and the community alike. 60% of the artist’s time will be dedicated to their own work and 40% of the time will be dedicated to community-based work, which may include hands-on workshops, studio visits, talks and presentations. The artist’s work can focus on research, development and/or the production of ongoing or new bodies of work. Projects that do not require specialized equipment are most suitable to the residency program. Artists are responsible for securing any additional specialized equipment. A stipend of $2500 will be paid to the artist and studio space will be provided by ARCAC. Accommodations, if needed, will be provided in the community. 🎉DEADLINE EXTENDED TO APRIL 2🎉 Eligibility: This residency is open to any professional artist who is a member of Visual Arts Nova Scotia. Residency at ARCAC: 4 weeks (of the artist’s choice) between May 1 and June 30, 2024 (1 week planning to take place at least 2 weeks in advance of the start date) VANS in Residence provides a stipend to support the artist, a studio space, as well as support from VANS and ARCAC to help to make the residency a rich experience for the artist and the community alike. 60% of the artist’s time will be dedicated to their own work and 40% of the time will be dedicated to community-based work, which may include hands-on workshops, studio visits, talks and presentations. The artist’s work can focus on research, development and/or the production of ongoing or new bodies of work. Projects that do not require specialized equipment are most suitable to the residency program. Artists are responsible for securing any additional specialized equipment. A stipend of $2500 will be paid to the artist and studio space will be provided by ARCAC. Accommodations, if needed, will be provided in the community. 🌟 MEMBER HIGHLIGHT 🌟 (repost) Ali Nickerson’s (@ali.nickerson) practice spans a diversity of media, including sculpture, craft, drawing, and painting. She employs a sense of dark humor in her work. She is currently exploring Nova Scotia landscapes, through paint, drawing, and silkscreen. She received her BFA from NSCAD and MFA from the University of Alberta. She has participated as Artist in Residence at Harcourt House, the NSCAD Textiles Department and Banff Center for the Arts. She exhibited in the Art Gallery of Alberta Biennial (2015), Fibreworks: The Biennial of Canadian Fiber Art in Ontario (2008), Confederation Centre Art Gallery, and galleries and artist-run centres across Canada and the US. She currently resides I Dartmouth and is teaching at NSCAD. 🌟 MEMBER HIGHLIGHT 🌟 Nancy MacDonald (@nancymacdonaldart) grew up in Northern Nova Scotia and received her BFA in Fine Art from NSCAD University ('91). She began her career as a photographer and digital artist in the computer game industry, working in San Francisco, Toronto, and Ottawa. After moving to the South Shore of N.S. in 2010, Nancy decided to transition away from her computer to focus more on traditional drawing and painting. "Nova Scotia is my muse, one I share with the many artists that fall in love with this place. As a sensitive soul, I am deeply affected by my surroundings, and as an artist, one can't help but want to share the magic that this place evokes". Nancy is currently represented by the Laurie Swim Gallery in Lunenburg and is a member of the Lunenburg Art Gallery Society. ID 1: Stonehurst Meadow is a landscape painting of Stonehurst, Nova Scotia. Loosely painted, with washy colours, quick marks, and daubs of paint and pencil marks. The sky is orange and blue, the water is turquoise and the grass is yellow and green with pink and white wildflowers. ID 2: Waterside is a mixed-media painting of the salt marsh that surrounds the beach at Waterside Provincial Park. The painting is done very loosely using washes of purply blues, greys, and pinks in the sky, blue and green trees, and pink in the water in the distance. Trees and wild grasses in blues, yellows, and green are done using washy brushstrokes and quick pencil marks. ID 3: Blomidon Spring is a landscape painting of the vista, looking out over the valley and the ocean from the top of Blomidon Provincial Park in the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia. The clouds, and ocean in the distance are loosely painted using pale pinks, blues, and yellows. Deadline for teachers to request workshops: January 30. PAINTS (Professional Artists In The Schools) helps schools in Nova Scotia bring professional visual artists into their classrooms. Projects can range from 3 to 12 hours, and can involve artists working in every imaginable discipline. PAINTS projects make links between the professional artists’ own work and the workshops that they lead with the students. We’re really interested in providing the richest experience possible through these relatively small programs. A project can be with one class or a small group of students. Teachers can submit a request through our website. PAINTS is a matching funds program. Artists are paid $80/hour for their contact time with students. PAINTS also provides support for the materials, and travel of the artists when necessary. The school is responsible for half of the artist’s fee, or $40 per hour. That means that you could have a professional artist lead a 3-hour workshop with your class with materials included, for a cost to your school of $120. We have a roster of over 20 workshops available for schools to book. We are back to being able to offer in-person workshops again, and some workshops are still available remotely too. Questions?
