‘But I’m on Tidal Time, not Chronological Time’. This doesn’t really cut it as an explanation or an excuse for tardiness, with work superiors or spouses. While that was part of the explanation for the extended hours of this morning’s dawn patrol mini surf safari. The other part was the late arrival of the youngest crew member, who is on Grommet Time (Club elders have long ago understood the tactical importance of the afternoon snooze…). No stress on national holiday though. Travel South from Porto and you expect temperatures to rise, but the microclimate of ‘The Place Beyond the Pines’ aka the not-so-secret-spot is a good 5C lower and more humid, making for a brisk session. Sets were brisk too, the surface glassy and pearlescent like the Pink Madre Perla of the Kustom Club pintail pig. Today’s medley of boards was also sporting the Hot Rod stripe of a Davenport Noserider, Pinot Noir V-Bowls and the ultimate minimalism - the pristine white blank of Panther’s flex Piglet. What a morning! By the time the crowds arrived we were happily caffeinating with Kustom croissants. Ah!
