“Oldsmobile. It’s Your Money. Demand Better.” This is one car I’ve wanted to capture for a while! A 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible finished in Dark Teal Metallic with a tan canvas top over a tan leather interior and 133k miles. The Cutlass Supreme name goes back to the mid 1960s where it was coined as a personal luxury coupe or convertible with a big V8, an automatic, and rwd. The perfect cruising machine. This approach went right through 1988 when this final gen Cutlass Supreme was unveiled. Based on the W Body platform, it was Olds’s first Cutlass Supreme with fwd and the first without a V8. It shared the platform with the Chevy Lumina, Pontiac Grand Prix, and Buick Regal and it was meant to compete with European and Japanese rivals in the same segment. This however was its downfall for not just the Cutlass Supreme but for Oldsmobile in general. Faithful buyers of the Cutlass Supreme hated the new model so much that prices for the old rwd g body Supreme actually increased in value as what people wanted was floaty old school American luxury, not a smaller, sharper import fighter with seat bolstering. Suddenly this car that Olds put so much time and money into became unsellable and inventory piled up on dealer lots. This in turn affected all of Oldsmobile sales negatively. Before this Oldsmobile was selling models quite well but after the W Body Supreme incident, sales never really recovered. It’s why many people call this final gen Cutlass Supreme the car that killed Oldsmobile. Production of the Cutlass Supreme ended in 1997 and Oldsmobile shut down and liquidated all its assets in the middle of 2004. This example was purchased as a fleet vehicle in Florida, likely a rental. By 2000 it already had almost 100k miles on it and then in 2003 it came to Madison. It seems to be holding on to life and it still looks great! I hope it sticks around for many years to come! If you're a fan of the GM W-Body cars, then I'm sure you immediately noticed what's wrong (or in my opinion, very right) about this picture. The other shots reveal that this GTP has been swapped to a small block (or actually a Pontiac 455 as pointed out in the comment below) and converted to rear wheel drive. Check out those motor mount plates, it almost looks like a boat setup. Pretty awesome. I also can't help but notice the nitrous plumbing- I have no doubt that this thing is quick. It's refreshing to see a gen 1 motor (or a 455) and not an LS swapped into something for a change as well. I wish I would have stuck around longer to gather some information about the car when I checked it out last Saturday at the @rockandrollcarshow at the Pavilions but the show was getting ready to shut down at the time and I hadn't seen everything yet. 1990 Buick Regal Limited This generation Regal and the related W-body Pontiac Grand Prix and Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme were introduced for 1988. Each was the first with its nameplate to use front-wheel drive. All were only offered as coupes initially, but for 1990, sedan versions of the Grand Prix and Cutlass Supreme started to be offered coinciding with the release of the related Chevy Lumina coupe and sedan. A sedan also joined the Regal lineup for the 1991 model year. In 1990, Buick had 6 coupes left in its lineup, but all would be discontinued before 2000. The Regal slotted above the Skylark and Century, but below the LeSabre, Riviera, and Reatta. Regal coupe production exceeded the numbers of all other Buick coupes combined for 1990, at 58,000 units, despite that being less than half of 1988 production. Coupe sales continued to plummet and the bodystyle did not return after this generation’s end in 1996. Overall, 865,000 third-gen Regals were made, including 402,000 coupes. This Regal is a Limited trim which added reclining front seats, plush carpeting, and “wide bright body-side moldings”. It also has the optional 170 hp 3.8L V6 first available mid-year 1990; the Regal was the only W-body offered with the engine. “Buick. A New Symbol For Quality.” This is a 1994 Buick Regal Custom finished in Medium Garnet Red Metallic over Red velour with 139k miles as of June 2022. This 3rd generation of the Buick Regal arrived for the 1988 MY and was made all the way through 1996. The first 2 MYs were coupe only, but with sales taking a nose dive, the sedan body style was added in 1990. Built on the W Body platform, the 3800 V6 was not offered in its sister cars (Lumina, Grand Prix, and Cutlass Supreme) making it unique to the Regal. 1994 saw the addition of both a standard airbag and ABS as well as the discontinuation of the Limited trim, leaving just Custom and GS. Of note, there was a Mary Kay version available, specially made for those who hit certain sales targets, but not offered to the general public. Additionally Buick offered an Olympic Edition in 1996 featuring gold accents and trim. The next gen Regal, still made on W Body platform, was offered only as a sedan due to weak coupe sales. The Regal sedan would solder on until 2004, before returning from 2011 to 2020 when it was finally axed from the North American Buick lineup for good. Production does, however, continue in China. These sedans were relatively popular in their day but these days seeing one is a rare treat! I’m so glad I found this one again! I saw it about a month ago while having lunch with my Mom and now I was finally able to get photos of it! Hopefully it’s got a lot of life left in it! It's the true beginning of the #uscarweek and it's also #obscuremonday so let's post something very, very uncommon in France. It's a 1991 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. General Motors only sold officially two Pontiac in France : the first gen Pontiac Trans Sport in order to take the train of the MPV success story and to compete against Chrysler and the 4th gen Firebird. All of the other Pontiac are unknown in France. The 6th gen Pontiac Grand Prix was introduced in 1988 like the 3rd gen Buick Regal and the 5th gen Oldsmobile Cultass Supreme which are base one the same chassis : the W-Body. The first Chevrolet Lumina also use this chassis but it was released one year later in 1989. This cars is actually not bad which is surprising for an GM car of the end of the 80's, early 90's. It's even an advanced technology feature : a HUD which project the speedometer on the windscreen ! Nissan already tested it in the 240SX for a short time. This Pontiac is the second car in the world to have this. The standard engine is a V6 2.8 of 130 hp, quickly by a better V6 3.1 of 140 hp. Not a very good value if you compare it to the Honda Accord EX who had a 2.2 of 130 hp which give better performance than the Grand Prix and I don't even about the fuel consumption and the reliability. The GTP version has a V6 3.4 Turbo of 210 hp which is much better on the paper but the performances are so-so with a 0-100 in 8.0s. A 205 GTi does better with a 1.9 of 130 hp. OK it's lighter but you can expect better performance with a V6 Turbo. At least, the handling is good. I know this car wasn't really anything super special in the world of cars but it was definitely one that some people would appreciate if they knew what they were looking at. Less then 1% of all impalas made in this generation were the SS package. Unfortunately, mine was officially written just about a year ago and I gotta say I really do miss this car. This car was an absolute fantastic daily driver and would definitely recommend anyone thats interested in buying one do it! This one had almost 300,000km and still drove like it was new. This car served me very well. So far, the car sits low af on its new coilovers, they’ll need adjustment with rebound stiffness and ride height once the cars drivable but I like where it sits now. Motor is separated from transmission and on a stand stripped down to a short block waiting for the new cam and then reassembly. Exhaust work is done, for now. Other little things like all of the wire harness has been cleaned up and reloomed in some black braided fancy stuff, rear window wing, tinted reverse lights, completely debadged.
