Types of maritime mail messages were intended to be in circulation in Mexico during the period of the Republican Restoration (1867-1876) in which the country, starting from the dissolution of the Segon Imperi Mexicà, will become a republic again. . The purposes of the Porte de Mar system were: 1) to compensate packet ships for carrying mail to foreign ports, 2) to allow postal patrons to prepay maritime postage fees, 3) to provide visible evidence that these fees had been paid. At the time of mailing, Porte de Mar stamps were placed (by the postal clerks) on the backs of envelopes in an amount equal to the required overseas postage and the mail was forwarded to Veracruz or Tampico. Mail packets were then placed on foreign ships to be transported to their ultimate destinations. The total value of the Porte de Mar stamps in each packet was calculated and that amount was paid to the ship’s captain (or agent) for carrying the mail. Arrangements were made with both English and French ships, and the postal patron had to specify which service was to be used. The Kingdom of Sardinia was the first state in Italian territory to issue postage stamps. In 1850, Count Camillo Cavour presented a report to the Piedmontese Chamber of Deputies proposing a postal reform similar to those carried out in a number of European countries , providing for the introduction of postage stamps, for which a new word was coined - francobollo . The reform became law in November and took effect on January 1, 1851 . The first postage stamps of the Kingdom of Sardinia went into circulation on January 1, 1851. The series consisted of three stamps with the profile of King Victor Emmanuel II . The name of the state was not indicated. They were withdrawn from circulation in September 1853. In October 1853, a new series of three stamps was issued, made with colorless relief printing on colored paper (green, blue and pink). The circulation of these stamps was almost completely used up. The first 1850 stamp, Isabella II 6C Cuartos, issue for Spain had five stamps, two vignette and five frame designs, was imperforate (naturally), and was printed by lithography. It had the image of the queen at the age of twenty. The "Spider" cancellation, quite characteristic for the earlier issues. Apparently, the Queen was rather vain about her appearance; approving a cancelling device that did not "deface" when struck directly . Finland’s philatelic history is typically divided into two eras – pre- and post-independence. From 1809 to 1917, the country was known as an Autonomous Grand Principality of the Russian Empire. As such, it experienced some degree of autonomy over its postage and other affairs, though tensions persisted throughout this time. This is evident in the adoption of the Finnish coat of arms, instead of the Russian, on all postage issued in the region between 1856 and 1892. In response to increasing Finnish nationalism, Russian authorities began to push back. One way this manifested itself was in postage. From 1892 onward, more Russian motifs, including the imperial coat of arms, began appearing on Finnish stamps. The local mail and rayon stamps of 1850 and 1852 constituted the first series of postage stamps issued by the Swiss Post. After the reconstitution of Switzerland as a federal state in 1848, the authority to operate a postal service passed from the cantons to the Confederation, and the federal postal service was founded in 1849. Its local mail and rayon stamps were the first definitive stamps valid in all of Switzerland, although the stamps issued by the postal authorities of the cantons of Geneva, Basel-Stadt and Zürich remained concurrently valid until 1854, when all stamps were supplanted by the "Sitting Helvetia" series of federal stamps. The first Swiss postal regulations divided Switzerland, for the purpose of mailing letters weighing no more than half a lot, into four rayons. These were defined by the distance or road transport time (whichever was higher) between sender and recipient. A special, lower rate applied to letters mailed within a municipality. Rayon IV, defined by a distance of more than 192 km or a transport time of more than 40 hours, for which a postage of 20 Rappen was due, was abandoned in 1852 and became part of Rayon III. The Large Hermes Heads of Greece . They were the first stamps that were put in circulation by the Greek Post Offices. The first day of circulation was October 1st, 1861. The stamps depicted the Ancient Greek god Hermes and they had been designed by the French engraver Albert Barre. Seven denominations were produced: 1 lepto, 2 lepta, 5 lepta, 10 lepta, 20 lepta, 40 lepta and 80 lepta (lepto means cent and lepta is the plural of lepto). The French Mint produced one printing plate for each denomination. Each printing plate could produce a sheet of 150 stamps for the corresponding denomination. The colors for the different denominations were as follows: 1 lepto: brown 2 lepta: bistre 5 lepta: green 10 lepta: orange 20 lepta: blue 40 lepta: purple 80 lepta: red With the 10 lepta of the Paris printings, the control numerals were introduced. They can be found on all the denominations of the Consecutive Athens Printings with the exceptions of the 1 lepto and 2 lepta denomi-n nations. For each stamp, the number on the back coin cides with its denomination and, conjecturally, its role is help the postal clerks avoid mistakes when selling the stamps. The tops and bottoms of all the "O"s in the words "franco", "bollo", and "postale" are flat. (6.) In the word "Romagna", the upper right of the "R", the upper left and right and the lower left and right of the "O", and the upper left and the lower left of the "G" have little pieces bitten out of them. (7.) The top and central arms of the "E" are of equal length, and the lower arm is longer. (8.) In the ornament after "Bollo" in the upper right corner of the stamp, the upper right circle in the ornament is joined to the central circle without an outline between them.
