Today marks the start of Week two of our #wilderfuturechallenge! ‘Plant wild flowers’ 🌺🌸🌼 100 years ago our countryside was awash with colour but now wild flower meadows cover just 1% of the UK. There has been a drastic decline of these biodiversity hotspots, but it’s not just pollinating insects they are important for, they also hold onto water to reduce flooding and capture vast amounts of carbon important in our fight against global warming. But do not fret! We can all help.

We are lucky enough to have our own vegetable patch and we decided to let half of it grow wild. We sowed lots of wildflower seeds earlier in the summer and I have to say it’s turned out to be harder to grow them than expected...has anyone experienced that? Having said that we certainly have a wild area and we do have some wild flowers which the bees and butterflies seem to love, so in that respect it’s been a success.
Our wildlife kits each contain a packet of wild flower seeds and lots of tips and instructions on growing your very own garden meadow and which plants the bees and butterflies love best. I’ll be sharing more information over the week. Looking forward to seeing all your green fingered photos! You can post them any time this week. Don’t forget to tag us in so we can see:
@little.robin.education @free_range_play @icareclothing @reallynosuchthingasbadweather @the.little.wildflowers
I think we’re going to increase the size of our vegetable/wild patch once this year’s crop has ended, watch this space...😊🌱🌸🌱🌼 #wildflowers #leaveyourgardenwild #northwaleswildlifetrust #thewildlifetrusts #WilderFuture #backtonature
