🎭 Falsettos
🏛 The Other Palace
📍 London 📆 September 2019
27 years after its’ first visit to broadway, Falsettos has finally arrived in London. This rapid fire musical is about a boy approaching his Barmitzvah, his neurotic mother and his gay father and their “modern family” existence. Comically it really hits the mark and I belly-laughed throughout. As it is set in the late seventies and early eighties, the realisation of the #AIDS epidemic is an inevitable backdrop so it is certainly littered with poignancy too. The vocals and American accents by all were really great and some funny and catchy songs. It felt a couple of songs/scenes too long in each half and have since found out it is two musical pieces joined together which makes sense. It also didn’t have a particularly strong storyline but it was still really enjoyable. If it doesn’t sound like your thing, do yourself a favour and go for the @lpittpulford solo of “I’m breaking down” which is one of my favourite comedy performances I have ever seen in a musical. Not since Carol Burnett as #MissHannigan have I seen someone use their entire being to deliver such a visually hysterical piece while delivering epic vocals and I could have watched a whole show of her alone. That said, the whole cast were brilliant and I left sad but uplifted at the same time. A great piece about acceptance and inclusion and what love really is in the end. Runs until 23rd November. 💡Random fact: My friend and I bumped into James Williams, the young actor who played Barmitzvah boy, Jason with his family on the tube ride home. They were so lovely and it was great to let him know how much we loved his performance.
#neverenoughtheatre #lovetheatre #theatreaddict #loseyourself #theatrereview #theatrecritic #supportthearts #stories #lovelondon #london #theatre #inclusion #modernfamily #comingout #love
