This weekend was epic. @rkaser and her team of assistants/directors asked and then created a drama program for the elementary (4-6) at @hamptonparkchristianschool. The result was 33 students, that made new friends, learned theater basics, improved their vocal and acting skills and gained confidence! Add to that, three sold out audiences who had a great time seeing what these students could do! They danced and expressed their lines so clearly that I don’t think I missed a single word! Their vocals were beautiful and honestly, Becca and her friends have created something priceless here. It is so difficult to start a program or add to it and I am so proud of what they accomplished! Becca, I am so proud of you! Some of the images were difficult to observe however it’s our history, American History that cannot be erased. I was proud to see numerous native SC artists, one from my hometown of Florence SC represented today. I learned that it wasn’t uncomfortable for black artists to leave the US for Europe in early 1900s to escape racism to develop their gifts & thrive. We are so excited to feature Jackie Traish on our upcoming concert, Idyllic Echoes! She will be performing Eric Ewazen's "Concerto for Flute and Chamber Orchestra" on Friday, May 17th! Jackie Traish is a musician, teaching artist, and arts administrator based in New York City. She is a graduate of the Mannes School of Music at the College of Performing Arts (MM '2018, PDPL '20) under the instruction of Judith Mendenhall. Her love of collaboration with other artists has given her the opportunity to perform with world-renowned programs and ensembles, such as The Lion King on Broadway, the Martha Graham Dance Company, New York City Ballet Choreography Institute, International Contemporary Ensemble, Brooklyn Youth Chorus, The Chelsea Symphony, and the Metropolitan Opera. She has performed in venues such as Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, New York City Center, and Joe’s Pub. As a lover of musical theater and opera, Jackie has had the opportunity to perform in many workshops, recording projects, and world premieres of newly-written works. It is her passion for interdisciplinary art that has guided her music and artistry throughout her career thus far. She is also an active private teacher (both flute and ukulele), and a teaching artist for multiple organizations in the community. Along with being a performer, Jackie enjoys working in various arts administrative roles to create impactful and exciting music opportunities for her community and beyond. She currently works in different programming and operational roles at the Bloomingdale School of Music, the New York Youth Symphony, The Chelsea Symphony, and the New York Flute Club.
