After a couple of days of relax, we found ourselves driving a tough yet marvelous mountain track, where probably no foreigner ever came through.
.
We’ve come up with sort of a plan, and our first objective was to see the Mekong River! The first day we drove to Muang Xai, where we camped in a resort in the middle of a tropical garden. Next we proceeded to Pak Beng, that was the shortest route to the Mekong, and spent the night in that typical river village. Enquiring about the possibilities to cross into Thailand, we opted to drive north again and attempt the same in Huay Xai.
.
What on the map seemed to be just a twisty 138 km road, started immediately with dirt track, very dusty and incredibly steep... We thought “what the heck, we’ve done the Pamir Highway or Mongolia, this ain’t gonna to stop us!” It was a marvelous drive along the most remote hills of Laos, through tiny villages full of kids, whose main activity seemed to be combing through lice. It was intense, pure Overlanding, 6 hours with lots of dust, potholes and some mud... luckily we did it!
.
We check into a Hotel for a deserved shower... next day we want to cross the friendship bridge!
.
#Laos #Thailand #Mekong #MekongRiver #RiceFields #RiceTerraces #Village #MuangXai #PakBeng #HuayXai #LaosMountains
#Adventure #Expedition #Overland #OverlandVagabond #FordRanger #Geocar #Season2b #CamperLife #TravelTheWorld #HomeOnWheels #Wanderlust #NoFilter #Earthpix #BBCTravel #NatGeoAdventure
