Viaje de Pakbeng a Muang xay. Aventura total entre los transportes y los humos por las quemas... Finales de febrero y marzo de 2023. Las quemas no solo afectan al paisaje sino que en cuestión de salud son terribles. Íbamos a estar un mes en Laos y tuvimos que irnos mucho antes ya que el humo en el ambiente era demasiado. Aparte de provocarnos escozor en ojos y no poder salir a la calle sin mascarilla y pañuelo nos pusimos malísimos (fiebre incluida) A pesar de ello nos pareció un pais fascinante. No solo por sus paisajes sino que tambien sus gentes, sus pueblos y su comida. • Venturing into a small town called Muang Xay in northern Laos alone, I realized it wasn't a typical tourist city with few signs and directions in foreign languages, which made me a bit worried as a first-time backpacker. • However, I later found that there were many Chinese elements here. Later, I learned that Chinese capital had established a significant presence in the area, and it had become a popular transit and accommodation point for self-driving tourists from China. • Thus, Chinese was somehow more useful than English there, especially when a local monk communicated with me in Mandarin after figuring out where I was from. • It was ironic or perhaps just absurd that the monk thought my Laotian friend was also Chinese and spoke to him in Chinese, creating a scene where two Laotians conversed in Chinese. • My mind tended to be hypersensitive and suspicious, imagining negative outcomes, and this scene made me think of the terrifying prospect of economic giant from the north colonizing this peaceful country with its capital. #MuangXay #MuangXai #Oudomxay #Udomxay #Southeastasia #老挝 #寮國 #Laos #laostravel #laostrip #孟塞 #芒赛
Our experience in Na Mor knocked us back, but the next few days were somewhat restorative. We had a few tough, but manageable, hilly days, where the scenery was more than worth it. As we edged closer to the more built up and touristed areas of the country, we saw huge differences. There were more brick houses, more cars, and more markets and restaurants. We found it easier to find accommodation and food (and Lao food is the best), and it was much easier to communicate. We also met three other cycle tourers on the road! We spent the last night before Luang Prabang in Nam Thouam which was a small dusty town (more Chinese trucks) but also a lovely place. We splashed out on our most expensive, £6 a night, accommodation. This got us a huge room with a massive window looking out to mountain views. In the morning we went to the local market where we had bit of a laugh with some of the ladies running the stalls who were clearly not used to communicating with incompetent tourists. The food was delicious and so cheap. We were loving Laos again. What a difference a day or two can make. #cycletouring #worldcycling #laos #muangxai #oudomxay

🇱🇦 Laos es un pais que esta situado en medio de Vietnam🇻🇳 y Thailand en la parte superior esta China🇨🇳 y debajo se encuentra Cambodia🇰🇭,ha sido el pais en el mundo que más ha sido bombardiado por los EEUU durante la guerra con Vietnam. ⠀ Poco a poco ha empezado a levantarse despues de este periodo cruel y devastador.
