I‘m rereading the series for the first time as an adult and it’s as cozy as Anne’s room in Summerside. When I repeat-binged this as a child, I always read the books in order (nerd 🤓), but Montgomery didn’t actually write them in the order we have now.

She got sick of writing Anne after six books and cleansed her palette with the three Emily books. Anne of Windy Poplars was the first Anne book Montgomery wrote after Emily, so readers at the time read this after Rilla of Ingleside.

If the Emily hiatus helped give her a second wind, I’m so glad. We wouldn’t have gotten Katherine with a K, sweet Walter, or the pink enamel heart necklace scene if she didn’t add the last two! (Yes I realize what a super fan I sound like 😅).
