It's lady slipper season at the Arb! The yellow lady slippers are up and the showy (pink, and State flower) are just around the corner. Come find them in the Wildflower Garden.
Lady slippers are a part of the orchid family Cypripedium, and are most often found among the woodland and forests in moist soil. While they are abundant in some parts of the world their populations have dwindled in others and are often afforded legal protection from harvest and alteration by anyone other than specialized experts. In Minnesota, state statute 18H.18 protects our state flower and other orchid and bromeliad populations. Remember to marvel, but do not disturb these natural beauties!
