What a triumph to have adapt and preserve a culture for a time I can't comprehend. It is also necessary to know the violence and crime committed against the Palawa following European contact in 1772. Abduction, murder, slavery, dispossession - conduct which was condemned by many Europeans at the time. You don't need to apply today's standards to the past to find the wrongness in what was done.

Part of the dam system in South West Tasmania, causing the flooding of a huge part it, the extinction of several species, and the destruction of what would surely be one of Australia's great natural wonders if it was with us today: The stark white-pink beaches at Lake Pedder.
