The issue of plastics is so much greater than just plastic straws. We are consuming so much of what we eat out of single use plastics and we need to look at the big picture and address the problem as a whole. The number of times I see people ditching the straw while continuing to eat the rest of their meal out of disposable plastics shows that we still have a long way to go. It’s not just about our daily choices, we need to demand our industries to do better so that we can eliminate single use plastics at their source.

This week while on a dive, my dive group wound up swimming through a sea of plastic that was blown in from a storm. Most of these plastics were food and beverage wrappers. With @shark_lenny we cleaned up as much as we could but there was still so much more. It was heartbreaking. Later in the week while filming a sea turtle feeding, I saw out of the corner of my eye what I thought was a giant moon jelly fish. When I turned to look closer I realized it was a plastic bag. Our plastic lifestyle is harming the marine world and it doesn’t have to be this way. Single-use non biodegradable plastics need to be a thing of the past, and together we can change this.
.
.
Please share thoughts and ideas for eliminating single use plastics or things that have worked in your communities.
.
.
#plasticocean #blueworld #philippines #plastic #conservation #oceansoul #seaturtle #plasticpollution #elnidoplasticbattle #womeninoceanscience #paditv #aqualung #plasticbattle #itsmorefuninthephilippines #5minutebeachcleanup #nauticamhousings #lumixgh6
Reposted from @rosie_poirier
