* Her father immigrated to Massachusetts and went from hauling buckets of coal to serving in the state Senate.
* Three of her younger brothers were also Massachusetts public servants—John Finnegan became a state representative and state auditor, David Finnegan was a School Committee president and a two-time mayoral candidate, and Joe Finnegan was a deputy commissioner in the state Mental Health Department and vice chancellor of the state Education Department’s board of regents.
* Awarded scholarships to Mount St. Joseph Academy and Emmanuel College.
* Was a social worker for the City of Boston before getting a civilian military job in France.
* Met her future husband, Michael Collins, at the mess hall at the Chambley-Bussieres Air Base. They married on 28 April 1957.
* Did volunteer work during her husband's time in the Gemini and Apollo programs.
* Worked in real estate in the Washington DC area while her husband served as Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs, Director of the National Air and Space Museum, and undersecretary of the Smithsonian Institution.
* Died from complications due to a stroke in 2014.
