#MarchMadness might be over but lets learn about the history of North Carolina.<br /><br />Tobacco Road is a general term used to describe parts of the state of North Carolina that are historically known for their tobacco production. The colony of Jamestown in Virginia found success growing tobacco commercially in the 1610s and other southern colonies took up the crop in subsequent years. North Carolina became its own colony in 1712 after splitting with what became South Carolina. While tobacco was grown in the colony’s Coastal Plain, the sandy soils of the area limited the production of other agricultural commodities.
