Charles Seliger (1926-2009) was 18 years old when he drew this in 1944. In that year, Seliger exhibited a painting at Howard Putzel's 67 Gallery in NYC in a show that also included work by Jackson Pollock, Lyonel Feininger, Hans Hoffmann, and Mark Tobey.
The New York Times review said, "With respect to a picture called "Wounded Space," there will be plenty of time and we needn't feel at all hurried, for I understand that Charles Seliger is an 18-year-old boy."
