Self-Healing Limestone Concrete: One of the remarkable aspects of the Colosseum’s construction is the use of a self-healing limestone concrete, also known as Roman concrete. This ancient concrete was made by mixing lime, volcanic ash (pozzolana), and water with the limestone aggregate. The volcanic ash acted as a binder, giving the concrete its strength and durability. The unique properties of Roman concrete allowed it to slowly heal and repair itself over time. When the concrete came into contact with water, such as rainfall or humidity, it triggered a chemical reaction known as pozzolanic reaction. This reaction caused the concrete to form new minerals, filling in cracks and strengthening the structure. As a result, the Colosseum’s concrete has endured for centuries, despite exposure to the elements and the wear and tear of time. #Colosseum #RomeItaly #Gladiators #HistoricalSites #TravelDestination #RomanHistory #ItalyTravel #ExploreRome #WorldHeritage #BucketListTravel #History #AncientHistory #RomanEmpire #HistoricalSite #Archaeology #VanGogh #VincentVanGogh #VanGoghArt #ArtHistory #Impressionism #AIart #DigitalArt #GenerativeArt #MachineLearningArt #DigitalIllustration #aureliusstudios #ComputerArt #ArtificialIntelligence #dalle #DigitalArtist

The most violent day in the history of the Colosseum, often referred to as the “Munera of Pompeii,” occurred in AD 59 during the reign of Emperor Nero. The occasion was the inauguration of the amphitheater, which had been completed under Emperor Vespasian, and it was attended by Nero, who ruled from AD 54 to 68. The day began with a series of gladiatorial combats, which were typical of such events. However, things took a gruesome turn when, during the midday break, a group of fighters from Pompeii engaged in a violent brawl with a rival group from Nuceria. The conflict escalated rapidly, resulting in chaos and bloodshed within the Colosseum. What started as a rivalry between two groups of spectators quickly turned into a full-scale riot. The violence spilled out onto the arena floor, with weapons improvised from wooden benches and whatever else could be found. It’s estimated that hundreds were killed or injured in the ensuing melee, making it one of the deadliest incidents in the history of the Colosseum. This event led Emperor Nero to ban gladiatorial games in the Colosseum for a period of ten years as punishment for the violence that had occurred. It also prompted stricter regulations and security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. Despite the ban, however, gladiatorial games eventually resumed, and the Colosseum continued to host spectacles for centuries to come. #Colosseum #RomeItaly #Gladiators #HistoricalSites #TravelDestination #RomanHistory #ItalyTravel #ExploreRome #WorldHeritage #BucketListTravel #History #AncientHistory #RomanEmpire #HistoricalSite #Archaeology #VanGogh #VincentVanGogh #VanGoghArt #ArtHistory #Impressionism #AIart #DigitalArt #GenerativeArt #MachineLearningArt #DigitalIllustration #aureliusstudios #ComputerArt #ArtificialIntelligence #dalle #DigitalArtist

The Colosseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheater, is an architectural marvel located in the heart of Rome, Italy. Construction of this iconic structure began in AD 70-72 under the emperor Vespasian and was completed in AD 80 under his successor, Titus. Here’s a brief overview of how the Colosseum was made: The Colosseum was primarily constructed using travertine limestone, a type of rock that was abundant in the surrounding areas. This limestone was quarried and transported to the construction site, where it was used for the outer walls and facade of the amphitheater. The builders of the Colosseum employed sophisticated construction techniques for its time. They used a combination of stone blocks, iron clamps, and mortar to assemble the massive structure. The outer walls were constructed using a series of arches and columns, giving the Colosseum its distinctive appearance. The Colosseum was designed to accommodate a large number of spectators and a wide variety of events, including gladiatorial contests, animal hunts, mock battles, and theatrical performances. Its elliptical shape and tiered seating allowed for efficient crowd control and optimal viewing from every seat. #Colosseum #RomeItaly #Gladiators #HistoricalSites #TravelDestination #RomanHistory #ItalyTravel #ExploreRome #WorldHeritage #BucketListTravel #History #AncientHistory #RomanEmpire #HistoricalSite #Archaeology #VanGogh #VincentVanGogh #VanGoghArt #ArtHistory #Impressionism #AIart #DigitalArt #GenerativeArt #MachineLearningArt #DigitalIllustration #aureliusstudios #ComputerArt #ArtificialIntelligence #dalle #DigitalArtist

Artist: Edvard Munch Title: The Death of Marat Date: 1907 Medium: Oil on canvas Period: Expressionism Location: Munchmuseet (@munchmuseet.no) --- Edvard Munch's later version of the death of Jean-Paul Marat bears little resemblance to the neoclassical painting by Jacques-Louis David. The expressionist style of Munch focuses less on light and shadow, and has not the level of detail of David. For Munch, projecting his psychological and emotional pain was perhaps more important than the political statement David emphasized. Another interesting aspect is that Munch has chosen to include the assassin, Charlotte Corday, and she is painted in a way that reminds us of Tulla Larsen, a woman Munch was engaged to marry, but would end up beaking up with. --- #edvardmunch #munch #munchmuseet #thedeathofmarat #jeanpaulmarat #expressionism #arthistory #art

Sotheby’s Spotlight: Mark Godfrey on Three Masterworks by Gerhard Richter Watch full video here: https://tinyurl.com/59mh36cj A singularly stunning and jewel-like example of Gerhard Richter’s iconic squeegee crafted abstractions from 1990, the very apex of his seminal 1988 – 1992 period of production, Abstraktes Bild 721-4 features a riotous combination of colors from across the spectrum and a rigorous and distinctive orthogonal composition. Revealing a meditative yet enigmatic vista, Vesuv is a sublime example of Gerhard Richter’s extraordinary ability to reimagine traditional modes of painting, bringing the time-honored tradition of landscape painting into the modern day. The present work is one of seven limited Vesuv paintings the artist executed in 1976, which together represent a significant shift in Richter's oeuvre from his Photo Paintings to the celebrated and ongoing Abstrakte Bilder. #masterworks #art #painting #fineart #artist #masterartists #artwork #arthistory #arte #design #greatpainting #greatartists #beauty #artworkdaily #artlover #classicalart #salonpainting #museumpaintings #equineart #academypainting #figurepainting #artmasters #artinspiration #traditionalart #artoninstagram #thcentury #historicalart #greatart #europeanart #academicart Subscribe for free: https://artdaily.cc/index.asp

Tuval üzerine akrilik airbrush boya 150x120cm 2024 #art #artwork #alicanleblebici #bookcover #arthistory #arthistorypainting #fridakahlo #selfportrait #artcollector #muse #museum #painting #airbrushpainting #contemporayart

JACOPO PONTORMO (1494-1557) | Self-portrait in the painting „Entombment of Christ“, in the Capponi Chapel, Santa Felicità, Florence (c.1525-35), oil on wood, 313 cm × 192 cm. Jacopo Carucci was an Italian Mannerist painter and portraitist from the Florentine School. His work represents a profound stylistic shift from the calm perspectival regularity that characterized the art of the Florentine Renaissance. He is famous for his use of twining poses, coupled with ambiguous perspective; his figures often seem to float in an uncertain environment, unhampered by the forces of gravity. Jacopo Carucci was born at Pontorme, near Empoli, to Bartolomeo di Jacopo di Martino Carrucci and Alessandra di Pasquale di Zanobi. Vasari relates how the orphaned boy, „young, melancholy and lonely“, was shuttled around as a young apprentice: Jacopo had not been many months in Florence before Bernardo Vettori sent him to stay with Leonardo da Vinci, and then with Mariotto Albertinelli, Piero di Cosimo, and finally, in 1512, with Andrea del Sarto, with whom he did not remain long, for after he had done the cartoons for the arch of the Servites, it does not seem that Andrea bore him any good will, whatever the cause may have been. Pontormo painted in and around Florence, often supported by Medici patronage. A foray to Rome, largely to see Michelangelo’s work, influenced his later style. Haunted faces and elongated bodies are characteristic of his work. . . . #jacopopontormo #italianartist #italianart #selfportrait #maleportrait #portraitpainting #renaissance #manierism #meninart #historyofart #arthistory

Entrusting ephemeral finds to a talented artist, i witness magic unfold as they weave the essence of history into their art, breathing new life into forgotten tales and ensuring their legacy endures through the ages. I feel a profound connection to the past, a sense of duty to safeguard its memory. Entrusting these treasures to an artist feels like passing on a piece of myself, watching with bated breath as they infuse their creativity with the essence of history, immortalizing it in their art. It's a symbiotic dance between past and present, where my role as a hunter of ephemera merges with the artist's transformative power, ensuring that the stories of yesteryears continue to captivate and inspire.

Sitting Nude, woodcut, 1936. Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, a pivotal figure in German expressionism, played a founding role in the artists group Die Brücke— "The Bridge" in 1905. Rejecting traditional academic styles, they sought to forge a new path of artistic expression, bridging the gap between past conventions and contemporary ideas. Meeting initially in Kirchner's unconventional studio, which had once been a butcher's shop, the space became a hub for experimentation, where social norms were discarded, and intimacy and nudity were embraced. Fritz Bleyl described it as "that of a real bohemian, full of paintings lying all over the place, drawings, books and artist’s materials — much more like an artist’s romantic lodgings than the home of a well-organised architecture student". However, Kirchner's artistic journey was marred by the rise of the Nazis, who labeled his work as "degenerate" in 1933, leading to the destruction of over 600 of his pieces. . . #vintageart #artcollector #rusticinteriors #gallerywall #artprintsforsale #arthistory #expressionism #diebrucke #kirchner #germanexpressionism #bohemianart #bohemianinteriors #colorfuldecor #slowliving
