Some of the signed and tagged books I have in my collection. Very happy with the Dr Smurry, Tarantula, Walking Joint and De Zoot tag. Dr Smurry was one of my biggest heroes with Tarantula and Walking Joint in the early 80’s and the early days of graffiti in Amsterdam. I remember a Dr Smurry tag on a cafe just before the bridge on the end of De Clercqstraat that always fascinated me. Was bloody happy to have met him, Tarantula, Walking Joint and tell them how their work inspired me as a kid. Also very happy with the @tkid170 book. I asked him about the T-Kid piece that was in Subway Art that I loved. To me it represents the Funk that should be in a piece. He told me the story of what happened that night before he made that iconic piece which was actually a pretty intense and sad personal story. @bigtimebrad I met in the early days of street art when he visited Amsterdam to do a couple of brilliant interventions. I remember @hushartist being there and my friend @kingadzrock . Was a bloody fun day. Brad Downey in collaboration with AKAY, Hotel L'Era de Can Burguès, 2014 . Brad Downey's first act of disruption in the public space came when, at 17 and after being expelled from school, he took the "S" out of the "Shell" sign in the local gas station. He has made a career out of temporary urban transformations, from small acts to increasingly larger commissions. . In 2014 and in collaboration with fellow street art artist AKAY, he temporarily upended the life of a hotel near Girona when he emptied the building of its furniture and objects and rearranged them in the lands around it: a small football field was covered in fabric, the tennis court was occupied with more than one hundred chairs, and dishes floated as confetti on the swimming pool. The most interesting intervention, though, was the repositioning of the hotel's 23 beds in a line that crossed over neighbouring fields. The gentle slopes of the hills and the softness of the beds offer a dreamlike atmosphere in which it appears one can hop from one bed to the next with an unknown destination. . @bigtimebrad . Despite this fact, Downey and Ponosov have tried to construct their own alternative scenario of collaboration and friendship. With their unauthorized actions, they have been mocking established clichés, combining and remixing cultural and national symbols, creating an illusion of friendship and strong relations between their countries. Today, during the escalation of political tensions, with a world on the verge of a global war, this model seems utopian. However, through thick and thin, the two friends keep honoring their kinship. - The multiple, which is editioned in 20 sets (+ 9 AP), features two coins; an American quarter dollar and a Russian 5 Ruble. The American Quarter Dollar is engraved with the Russian coat of arms, and the Russian 5 Ruble with the American equivalent. The two engraved coins are held in the coin department of a foil embossed leather wallet. A Swedish 20 kronor banknote, which functions as a signed and numbered certificate of authenticity is held in the wallet's cash pocket. Downey, a master of fine arts and sculpture, developed his skills at the Slade School of Art under the mentorship of Bruce McLean. In 1998, at the Pratt Institute's initiative, he decided to continue his life in New York. Downey's projects distort the habits and conventions of the urban environment and cast doubt on norms that are so firmly embedded in society that it perceives them as real and appropriate rather than restrictive and invasive. Prijateljstvu med Jimmiejem Durhamom, ki predlaga napis, in Bradom, ki da na kamen, preden ga kasneje odvrže na dno morja, vklesati tole: »Ta kamen je apnenec, sedimentna kamnina. Prinesen je bil iz kamnoloma v Lipici in je težak 731 kilogramov. Odkupil sem ga od kiparja po imenu Miha Pečar v Portorožu, od koder ga je v Izolo s kamionskim prevozom pripeljal Gregor Basiaco. V Izoli sem najel obrtnika Roka Pahorja, da mi pomaga vklesati napis. Potem sem najel barko Morski volk, da bi ga odvrgel, sem, v Jadransko morje.« In na spodnji strani kamna preprosto: »Rock Bottom.« Razstava bo s tehnologijo razširjene resničnosti ponudila možnost obiska umetniškega dela, ki leži na dnu morja. Poskušala bo prikazati nevidnost tako prijateljstva kot potopljenega kamna. A tale of friendship and a Slovenian rock. Friendship between Jimmie Durham, who suggests the inscription, and Brad, who, before dropping it into the sea, carves the following into the rock: »This is limestone, a sedimentary rock. It was brought from a quarry in Lipica and weighs 731 kilograms. I purchased it from the sculptor Miha Pečar in Portorož and transported it to Izola with a truck owned by Gregor Basiaco. In Izola I hired a craftsman Rok Pahor, who helped me carve the inscription. Then I rented the boat Sea Wolf and dropped the rock here in the Adriatic Sea.« And on the bottom of the rock, simply: »Rock Bottom.« The exhibition will use augmented reality technology to offer the opportunity to visit a work of art lying at the bottom of the sea. It's a place where flattened storefront windows and empty heads become stages for pictorial thinking. Where does the artwork begin? Scribbles become debris, piles upon piles, so many drawings that didn't make it. How important is it to know the end before writing the beginning? We need hybrid approaches. Daniel has embraced hybridity. His artworks feel deliberately unsettled, hitting the snooze button somewhere between sleeping and waking, located inside the fuzz of a night out drinking. This new series of work rejects fixed categories and embraces the freedom of non-representational forms. I get the feeling he's trying to put his brain on the paper. Can we really read our own thoughts?
