✨️✨️Arm Gaiters✨️✨️ Stick & Step session absolutely wonderful. Navaya fully enjoyed it. Today, she tried Arm Gaiters for the first time. No fuss. No upset. Was happy to put them on. And look at her trying to weight bare on her arms and in the crawl position. Some upset and protesting at first as such an unfamiliar position and move for her to do. But she overcame it and did some amazing work with them on. They can be used to provide therapeutic value to patients with a number of different conditions, such as cerebral palsy. The gaiters aim to keep the affected limb in a controlled and stabilised extension for rehabilitation and/or provide a prolonged stretch to the limb to reduce contractures; or to passively stretch and support in a different angle of flexion for contractures. Gaiters can help in many ways, including: • Immobilising, limiting, stabilising and otherwise controlling extremity joints • Reducing pain and discomfort by maintaining or increasing range of movement at the joint • Restricting the motion of a limb in a particular direction Video was incredible to watch and see her do. Attempting some sitting.. kneeling and tummy time activities. However, after night, 4 of very little sleep, lots of pain and discomfort, she was in no MOOD for us to do these. We pushed through each one as best as could. She enjoyed kneeling at her triangle and seemed quite happy with herself. Quick 5 mins doing this one as she's really struggles on he knees. Her legs and feet just don't quite bend and sit how they should. Everett had an appointment with her pediatric orthopedic surgeon yesterday and we got news we were both expecting and dreading- her bilateral hip dysplasia has worsened and she will need surgery on her hips in a couple months. It sounds intense and things like bone cutting, joint shaping, and blood transfusions were mentioned. Evie has been in pain and we thought it was due to her hips and this confirmed it. The surgery will hopefully alleviate some of that pain and since she’s still little, she will hopefully heal quickly. Here’s a picture of our tough cookie taking a walk today 🍪

Oh hello! It’s been a couple weeks since our last post. Everett has been attending physical therapy and occupational once a week and speech therapy four times a week. Her preschool teacher had been coming twice a week to our house. She’s been learning her AAC device and is starting to string words together. She’s been using her Trexo daily at home. And she’s battling another bout of aspiration pneumonia on top of it all. Here she is working out with weights and smiling while doing it! It’s not all work around here, though, she has also been enjoying Arden being home on summer break, the swing in our house, lots of cuddles, first tastes of sweets, and rooting for villains in movies! We are so grateful for this summer together. 🩷
I’ve had the best time this weekend on my very first residential with Bobby and Rosa at Avon Tyrell organised by The Dorset Children’s Foundation. Friday night we settled into our accommodation and had a bbq. Saturday was activity day we did canoeing, high ropes and archery followed by a lodge party in the evening. Then a chilled Sunday playing with clay before heading home. I had the absolute time of my life experiencing new adventures and making special memories. On Saturday Rosa took me to Weymouth Chesil Youth Pride. We had a great time, I loved all the bright colours, being out in the sunshine and meeting new people. Unfortunately the ended with me having another prolonged seizure, blue lighted and another hospital stay.
