The Highlander’s Kilted Bride By Vanessa Kelly Clan Kendrick, Book 6 Book 102 of 2023 Thank you to @tlcbooktours & @kensingtonbooks for my review copy! Every once in a while you find a book that exactly matches your taste in reading, and The Highlander’s Kilted Bride was that for me. I was concerned that I would be confused since I was jumping in at book 6 of the series, but it worked well as a standalone for me. The glimpses I got into past books just made me want to pick up more from this series after reading this one. I fell in love with the characters 3 pages into the prologue. We’re introduced to the youngest Kendrick sibling, Kade, as a sickly child whose family is visiting tomboy Charlie’s family. I loved ferocious little Charlie, and her meet cute with Kade as an adult was fantastic. This book had just the right mix of romance with a mysterious and dangerous plot to keep things interesting. She created a dynamic cast of characters who I look forward to reading more about as I read earlier books in the series. I look forward to reading more from this author! QotD: What’s your favorite trope? I don’t often like friends to lovers, but when it’s childhood friends to lovers, I absolutely love it!
I'm a bit late as I was on a sort of IG break for two weeks! But this is the newest release from @vanessakellyauthor and it is about a heroine who's a bit of a tomboy! This one was definitely alot of fun with really great dialougue between the characters. It was really easy to read and a very light story that was a bit of a refreshing break for me! This is a "closed-door" romance which was a bit disappointing but the characters really made up for it with me. There is a few spicy scenes that made me expect an open-door moment but alas, it never happened! 😆 It was a really fun story though and had great characters!! I took a quick trip up to my favorite getaway last weekend in Strawberry, so of course I brought this book a long because I knew it would go so well with all the red there! When they reunite as adults, their relationship sweetly builds to a romantic one. I haven’t read the other books in this series, but I didn’t feel lost in this one. With a little suspense, a lot of music, and a kilt wearing FMC, this is a cute historical romance that is light on steam but still romantic!

The banter along in just their family had me smiling. I loved the relationship Kade had with his niece, it was so sweet. The banter and chemistry between Kade and Charlie was also good. The way she scolded me when he was fight back a laugh during certain situations. I loved the drama the legends brought between the Stewart family and how the Kendrick’s handled the drama. In 1828, Kade of the Klan Kendrick has recently returned home to Scotland after a worldwide tour playing his music and also spying for his country. He is annoyed at being roped into attending a wedding and perhaps playing a concert of his music rather than getting to spend his time working on his latest piece that has been commissioned by the king. While on the way to the wedding, his carriage is nearly crashed into by a feisty lady riding a white horse, Charlotte “Charlie” Stewart. The two met as children and have a shared love of music. Charlie is meant to marry another, but will Kade and Charlie forge their own path? I thought The Highlander’s Kilted Bride was a delightful escapism read. It’s been a very busy week at work and in life and it was fun to be able to settle down each evening and read this novel. I loved the characters in this novel. The story starts with a prologue where Charlie and Kade meet as children and Charlie defends Kade by punching another boy in the nose. This sets the tone for their relationship, and I loved it. I loved Charlie’s spunky personality and also enjoyed their shared love of music. All of the other characters were great, but I think I would have loved them even more if I had read the first five novels in this series and knew their back stories. I always enjoy a Scottish setting and loved the highland setting of this book. The story was very fun with a wedding, a loss of a family heirloom, and the search for a treasure all with love blooming in the midst. I enjoyed the mysteries. I especially loved feisty Grandpa Angus. He has great love for his family and hilarious anger towards other families for past historic misdeeds. The book had great humor and had me chuckling often. It's the holiday season and we are READY for all of the holiday romances! Today we're featuring The Highlander's Holiday Wife by Vanessa Kelly. It starts out as Braden Kendrick, pro bono doctor to Edinburgh's impoverished class, is attacked by an irate man on his way home from the slums. He's rescued by a mysterious duo comprised of a hulking man and a sword-wielding woman who communicate with each other in sign language. Samantha Penwith is a woman on a mission: avenge her husband's death and solve the mystery of orphans gone missing from her foundling home. Rescuing Braden was just a throwaway good deed on her way home from investigating. Soon after their superhero-esque meet-cute they meet for real when Braden is asked to join the board of her foundling home. As they spend more time together, they learn that they have more in common than they expect. Despite what seems like a bonkers premise, this is more of a gentle, low steam romance. Samantha and Braden are both highlanders, but it's more of a cultural affinity here rather than the alpha highlanders so prevalent in HR. Sure, there are a few kilts and references to whisky, but the Scottish setting feels more realistic here. We could have done with a little more Christmas spirit (give us Scottish traditions, mistletoe kisses, and extravagant gifts!), but the romance felt authentic and the mystery plot was well-executed. Braden Kendrick is a doctor who helps those in need in the seedier sections of Edinburgh. One night as he is helping out a patient, he is set upon by someone with a vendetta against him. A mysterious man and woman help him out. They never speak a word, but only speak in sign language. Who are they and what are they doing out and about at night? Lady Samantha Penwith is working with her man servant, Donny, to try to find who murdered her husband, Roger. Roger Penwith had started an orphanage in Edinburgh to help unfortunate children. Boys have mysteriously started to disappear from the orphanage. Where are they going and why? This is a historical mystery with romance included. It also has some humor. The romance is closed door. I wish the romance would have had more time to develop and shine between Braden and Lady Samantha. The setting is during Christmas, but there isn’t too much of a real Christmas theme to the story and it can be read any time of year. I loved the two main characters. They are both smart and independent. I also loved the Kendrick family overall. They were a fun and supportive family. This is the fifth book in the Clan Kendrick series. I have not read the other books and thought it did well as a standalone novel. I definitely want to read more of the series to get more of this amazingly wonderful family. I loved that the brothers picked on each other but you could really tell how much they loved each other and would do anything for their family. Braden is a sweet cinnamon roll doctor hero with some Highlander tendencies and a brogue - what more could you want? Samantha is a strong, independent heroine who loves fiercely. This really is a great holiday closed door read. A few content warnings for miscarriage (before the book takes place), some violence, kidnapping. Vanessa Kelly knows how to deliver on a sweet, highlander romance. Her writing is immersive with lovely world building that gives her novel a gravity of authenticity to it. I always feel like her characters are well crafted and fully dimensional. Her novels are low on the steam, more along the lines of a Georgette Heyer novels, and while they are low steam they are still beautifully romantic. Definitely pick up a Kelly novel if you are in the mood for a romance that has a comforting pace and feel and leaves your heart feeling warm and joyful! Definite must read for any Vanessa Kelly fans or any historical romance lover that enjoys a novel that explores a more realistic feel for the time. I really enjoy Kelly's works and will continue enjoying her backlist. Book Review: I’m so happy to be in the tour today for The Highlander’s Holiday Wife, another wonderful addition to the Clan Kendrick series! Samantha and Braden have such a lovely romance with equal amounts of passion and friendship, and I love that their marriage of convenience turns into something more. They’ve both suffered loss in love, and having a second chance at it is something neither ever expected. The story also reveals many of the struggles people faced at this time, including gender biases, classism, and prejudice. It definitely says something about the superficiality of society and how misguided and ineffectual the rules of society are. Samantha and Braden, and the entire Kendrick clan prove that in spades. I adore the Kendrick clan and was so happy to see many of the characters from previous books in this one. I always love finding out how their lives have progressed and changed since the conclusion of their stories, and we find out a bunch in this story. Angus, the beloved grandfather, has a great part in the story, and I adore him! He’s so fun and supportive, and his fierce love for his family is as evident as ever. A story of love, healing, redemption, and more, The Highlander’s Holiday Wife will appeal to readers of historical romance and romantic suspense. BOOK REVIEW! ✨📖✨📖✨📖✨📖✨📖✨📖✨📖✨ Wow! This book is SO AMAZING! It is romantic, entertaining, heartfelt, and so much more! Whenever I picked up "The Highlander's Irish Bride", I was whisked back in time to the Regency Era, and went on quite a journey with this story! This is the fourth book in Vanessa Kelly's "Clan Kendrick" series, and I think it can work as a stand-alone novel as well! Ms. Kelly's writing style is incredibly visceral and beautiful! Her books feel so well-thought out; each and every detail adds something to the story. Her characters all feel like such real people with distinct personalities, and as the reader, I could truly feel their wants, fears, desires, and needs. Kathleen is such a strong, intelligent, caring, loving, and spunky woman with a heart of gold. She truly loves so deeply, and you can feel from the first moment how much she cares for her step-sister Jeannie, and her friend Gillian. Never could she have imagined what meeting Grant will lead to, and how it might change the future she never had thought of. Grant is such a hard-working, kind, smart, and a bit more on the quiet side compared to his family. He also usually puts work first. Never could he have imagined what would happen upon meeting Kathleen, and how it will change his life going forward. (Possible Spoilers!) I found myself pulling for Grant and Kathleen from their first meeting. You can truly feel their chemistry, and they balance one another out so well. Opposites in many ways, they are still drawn to each other, and their passion is amazing. I so love them together, and their happy-ever-after...YAY! Also, I so love the Kendrick family. You can truly feel how much they love and care for one another. Their loving teasing, banter, and strong support is so amazing to read. From beginning to conclusion, I couldn't get enough. This is heartwarming, exciting and very humorous. Kathleen and Grant are so perfectly matched that watching them fall for each other is just pure bliss. Kathleen is the perfect heroine. She's a bit seasoned and knows her own mind completely... until she doesn't! And that makes for absolute entertainment. She's cast in the role of caretaker to her impetuous younger sister who often leads her into situations fraught with tensions and pure insanity. Grant is the strong and silent one in the Kendrick family. He's used to taking care and being in charge in his own way. He's nose deep in bookkeeping and familiar responsibilities that while Kathleen is beautiful, he's determined that she won't get under his cool exterior. He soon finds that he does indeed possess a heart and that his colleen has brought new life to it. Grant is the ultimate gentleman which makes him the perfect book husband. This has so many shades of Sense and Sensibility, Emma and Pride are Prejudice with much more spice, that this delightful book was absolutely unputdownable fun. I can't wait to be lost again in another book by this must read author. This was time well spent. Now that was an epic adventure! I just finished reading The Highlander’s Irish Bride by Vanessa Kelly (available now) last night and there was a lot going on! This tale starts with in London heads off to Glasgow, then to the highlands… all the while starting scandals, wrangling lovesick little sisters, skirting kidnapping, fighting highwayman and finding love! This was a slow burn romance- but all the action and activities kept me distracted until our highlander and Irish lass finally succumb to their attraction!😉 Fans of the Clan Kendrick series will be pleased with most of the Kendricks making appearances and especially everyone’s favourite kooky grandpa, Angus! It was was also really nice to see Grant find resolution to past tragedies and find his HEA with Kathleen instead of focusing on taking care of the family clan always.
