It's "Throwback Thursday"! Everyone loves a sunflower with its face turning towards the sun 🌻 In 1996 we started growing them in our tiny garden and on our allotment. We introduced our daughter to her first sunflowers in 2000 at the ripe age of 11 months! And she's loved them ever since - sunflowers mean a lot to her. This is an imaginary acrylic landscape. Between sea and mountains there's a place that is just right for me . 🌊⛰️🌟 I made it out of a little frustration with previous ones, learning to make landscapes and learning acrylics doesn't come in a blink of an eye, but I promise you, it's rewarding. Acrylics are a very versatile medium, they can be watery as watercolours and thick as oils and experimenting with them is exhilarating 🤯💕 And indeed keep on experimenting I think it's crucial for my art practice especially now. “At Waters Edge” This painting is so vibrant and bright in real life, I love how many colours are in it! I added some gold leaf as well for that extra touch. In this period I am keeping receiving provocations by the universe (God, life, nature, the Spirit...as you prefer) about what does it mean to be an artist. I am not going to annoy you here with all the swirls & twirls of my funny mind , there's a lot about fragility and insecurity but even about just accepting them as a matter of fact and simply being and doing the unique human beings that we are. But I would like to try to put this down in a simple way: I came to the conclusion nowadays that for me an artist is a mediator. A channel between another world and this world . What we see and feel and try to put in a drawing with ease or with a lot of pain, perfect or so full of imperfections is just ourselves trying to making the bond between the different worlds we go through. This exposes a lot. That's why we often feel so unsure. And that's why I personally prefer imperfect art, not refined, rough, full of imperfections and feelings....it seems to me to adhere more to reality than any perfect flat copy. And that's probably why I will always be attracted and attached to children's illustration, because the children's world leaves a lot of space for this imperfection and this connection between worlds. Still in these beautiful yellow colza fields but with loose oil pastels this time. This is a bit of the road that I do almost every day to take my son to school. The little village up the road is called Hameau Saint Léonard . We both enjoy doing this path, having little morning chats, earing at some good music together and looking at the changing seasons 🌱🏵️🌼🌿🍁🍂🍃 1. This is an A3 format - the bigger the best to not control to much but 2. If you scroll you can see I tried it in my sketchbook before 3. I add a little process video at the end but....pffffffff I am not good ad doing that and I am not sure I will do it again. It takes time!!!
