Directions for perspective drawing You will need a ruler, pencil and an eraser for sure! You can do it. We covered perspective drawings over the years in our homeschool and I learned too! It was pretty enjoyable to get out a pencil, paper, and a ruler and get to work. Lesson 2 in @artisticpursuitsinc Drawing curriculum. If you’re wondering what’s going on here (and you should be), Gemma was supposed to do an outline drawing of some objects with complex outlines. The instructions were a little confusing: “Find objects in a nature setting that have complex edges. You might include a tree, a close up view of a flower, or a group of rocks and plants. You might choose a car and a house.” Gemma, who doesn’t like to draw and didn’t want to do the lesson, argued, “It says nature setting. A car and house aren’t nature. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.” ME: “It means go outside.” She started by drawing succulents in a pot (top, where the handlebars should be). Then she changed her mind and wanted to draw a motorcycle across the street, but her view was obstructed by a trash can. GEMMA: “I can’t draw the motorcycle.” It’s almost as if she chose the thing she couldn’t do on purpose, almost. ME: “Draw your bicycle.” She sat down in front of the bike and started drawing. GEMMA: “I don’t have room for the handlebars.” ME: “Then draw the bicycle without handlebars. Be a problem solver.” I went inside to wash dishes. We’re wrapping up our school year over here, and I’m looking back on our curriculum choices for the year, per usual. One thing we have absolutely loved this year and will continue to use, are the Draw Write Now books. I stumbled upon these a year or so ago and originally only purchased 1, just to try it out. It didn’t take me long to realize that I should have purchased the entire set! We now own 4 of the DWN books and since I don’t need to purchase much curriculum this year, I’m going to go ahead and snag the rest of the DWN books for us to use this year. I cannot recommend these enough. Do you use Draw Write Now books? I’d love to hear which is your favorite! When the sun returns, shadow drawing is on the agenda! We use Schleich animals for all kinds of things, but this is one of my favorites...to learn the form of an animal by exploring its shape on paper and using fine motor skills to bring it to life. It’s also fun to move the figurine around and play with the different shadow shapes it makes.
