You never fully know what’s going on with Collins’ stories, but she reveals just enough to keep you in anticipation of what’s to come. Unfortunately, this time, I found too much of the story distracting to be fully taken in by it. Had there been more focus on the weaving, the spiders, and the possibilities of what this fabric could do for people, it would have left me mesmerised, as these parts of the story really gripped me. But the message of what mankind is willing to do for power remains strong throughout, and the ending is very satisfying. I’m sure it’ going to be a popular book among historical fiction fans as it’s a unique and eerie read, with many elements that I did really enjoy.

Reseña: 4🌟 Después de leer las historias cortas por supuesto que ya podía ponerme con Desafiante. Al principio se me hizo extraño volver a leer desde el punto de vista de Spensa después de tanto tiempo, pero enseguida te enganchas a su personalidad y las burradas que suelta. Es maravillosa. Me ha gustado ver una parte distinta de ella en este libro, menos inconsciente y más vulnerable. También hay varios capítulos narrados desde otros puntos de vista que creo que ayudan a dar forma al conjunto. Me declaro súper fan de las babosas. Ojalá un libro solo de las babosas. Han sucedido muchas cosas en este último libro, cada cual más intensa e impresionante que la anterior, y aún así se me ha quedado un pelín floja la conclusión de la saga. my next read 🙂↕️ “Der perfekte Kreis” von Benjamin Myers liegt schon ewig auf meinen SuB und endlich lese ich es 🥰 Aktuell versuche ich, eher SuB Leichen zu lesen, was mir manchmal schwer fällt, da ich eine absolute mood readerin bin 😅 bisher hat mir meine Auswahl aber sehr gut gefallen 🙏🏼 Vor ein paar Jahren habe ich “Offene See” von Benjamin Myers gelesen und so so sehr geliebt. Es gehört zu meinen Lieblingsbüchern. Ich habe selten eine so bildliche und poetische Geschichte gelesen, die auch noch so viel Tiefgang enthält 🥺 Das erhoffe ich mir auch bei “Der perfekte Kreis”. Der Inhalt hört sich auf jeden Fall schon vielversprechend an. Hier geht es um eine Freundschaft zwischen zwei Männern, die in der Vergangenheit Rastlosigkeit, tiefe Einsamkeit und traumatische Ereignisse erlebt haben und dem wollen sie entkommen. “Geprägt von demselben Freiheitsdrang und derselben Abneigung gegen jeglicher Obrigkeit, entstehen in ihnen ein tiefer Respekt für ihre Umwelt und der Wunsch, die beengende Realität des Alltags hinter sich lassen zu können.”

Spreading anti-Semitic hatred and misinformation before the advent of social media and through your mailbox, yes direct mailers and the radio. This is a compilation of those who brought over its philosophy and the unsung heroes that stood against it. It was fascinating to read about Father Coughlin, Huey Long as well as the racist views of American industrialist Henry Ford (very surprising). As well as sabotage plots on infrastructures, the Jews and attempts to incite a coup. One disturbing revelation is the FBI’s decision to conceal evidence implicating powerful individuals, including senators, in promoting Nazi propaganda. While some faced consequences most walked away with not even a mere slap of the wrist. Meanwhile the heroes remained unrecognised, a sad truth of history. Shoutout to (& RIP) Leon Lewis and O. John Rogge among others, you hope there are more of them out there today. Entertaining narrative couple with unapologetic storytelling that pulls no punches, made this an engrossing read. The author’s fearlessness in delving into the embarrassing and ugly truths is a standout feature and why she’s one of my favourites. “Prequel” much like its predecessor “Bagman” serve both as a companion and an expansion of a podcast, “Ultra”, a recommendation in its own right. Yet despite its merits, this lacked a coherent narrative, falling short compared to “Blowout”, which I highly recommend. Still 1 more book of hers (Drift) that I hope to complete before 2024 comes to a close. Have you read this ❓❓
Mój mózg cwaniaczek-pasibrzuszek dobrze kminił, widząc w Ścianie deser. Jeśli wszystkie Cymelie są takie, to ja chcę (a to druga moja dopiero, po Kempowskim). Takiej literatury pragnę, taką kocham. Cicho robiąca robotę, drenująca do spodu, wszechogarniająca i odważna (egzystencjalnie). A przy tym doskonała literacko (znakomicie też przetłumaczona przez Małgorzatę Gralińską). Haushofer jest w Ścianie niezrównana. Przyszło mi do głowy, że to najlepszy rewers dla Kochanki Wittgensteina Marksona, jaki można sobie wyobrazić (chronologicznie: Haushofer napisała Ścianę dużo wcześniej). ⠀ Haushofer redukuje świat (w prostym katastroficznym trybie postapo), żeby dotrzeć do jego jądra (to jest redukcja bardzo dobrze literacko wymyślona). A co do metafory ściany, to jest bezdno. Począwszy od jej immanencji w skali makro (w relacji czlowiek-natura ["Pragnęłam zawsze móc tak siedzieć - w ciepłe, świetle, z psem u stóp i ptakiem krążącym nad głową. Już dawno przestałam się zastanawiać, jakby moje troski i wspomnienia nie miały ze mną nic wspólnego. Kiedy wreszcie musiałam ruszyć dalej, uczyniłem to z głębokim żalem. Po drodze na nowo zmieniałam się powoli w jedyne stworzenie nienależące do tego świata, w człowieka, który grzęźnie w rozmyślaniach, łamie gałęzie buciorami i oddaje się krwawemu myśliwskiemu zajęciu"]), po jednostkowe doświadczenie. Bohaterka doszła do ściany (którą starała się dotąd ignorować). Ponieważ doszła do ściany cywilizacja. Ale to też nie tak! At 4 AM the other night, I was still engrossed in my book, fully aware I’d be paying for it at work the next day. But honestly, it felt incredible to fall in love with reading all over again! 📚❤️ After being caught in a reading slump since the start of the year, I revisited an old favorite of mine. There’s something deeply comforting about returning to familiar pages and characters. If you’re ever in a slump, I highly recommend going back to those favourite reads! They can help rekindle our love for reading and remind us why we first fell for books. Also, if you haven’t yet read Jean M. Auel’s Earth’s Children series, you’re missing out! Incredible research has gone into these books and they've been blended so well with some of the most imaginative storytelling. Plus, it always leads me to wonder what my animal token would be. Pretty sure half of bookstagram spent the weekend reading the new Emily Henry 😂 Raise your hand if you did 🤚🏼 As I’ve said before, I’m not a seasoned romance or romcom reader, so I tend to stick to tried and tested authors and tropes that I know will be sure-fire hits for me, because when I need that dopamine hit, I REALLY want it to work! But I do have something to say in defence of the genre: the older I get, the more I understand how vital books that give us hope and joy and happiness are. I’ve been snobby before, and I can completely put my hand up now and say how wrong I was. Life can be really hard, and it doesn’t always come with a happy ending. Seeking that out in a book makes a lot of sense to me. But the modern romcom does so much more than that - here we often find stories of found family, friendships and embracing life - all sorts of life - to the fullest. Maybe that’s not always realistic in reality, but I sure do sometimes need to seek out a world where it can be possible. And the truth is, I find it harder these days to be stuck back to back in literature that tackles really hard things all the time - or even, dare I say it, that takes itself too seriously all the time. And look, a romcom may not be your jam - actually I think lots of genre fiction gives us a means to escape, whether that be sci-fi or fantasy or YA or thrillers. That’s the beauty of books, right? That being said I struggled in the first few chapters of this - I didn’t necessarily buy into the meet-cute, and given the characters were in their 30s, I sometimes wished they had more fully-formed personalities. But as I read on, Henry won me over because she’s a DAMN funny writer. Honestly it’s hard to make me laugh out loud in a book, and she does it every time. Her dialogue is pitch perfect, and that’s amongst ALL her characters. If something is marketed a romcom - I WANT the comedy. I can completely see this being a film that would have me choking on my popcorn with lols. And I absolutely respect her for that. Not a new favourite, but a completely enjoyable romp. She’s an auto-buy for me. How about you?! And what’s a genre you like to escape into??

I also finished ‘powerful’ by @laurenrobertslibrary which i also loved (review coming soon) and i then started my reread of ‘the foxhole court’ which I have nearly finished! 🦊 -> watching: me and my bf started the show fallout on prime which was super fun! and last night I started baby reindeer which is already very shocking + disturbing! -> listening to: my music taste is very mixed so my playlists are always all over the place but standout songs this week have been: - absolute in doubt by lil peep - zombie by the cranberries - drown by bmth - orange juice by noah kahan -> doing: in my free time honestly not much, this month has been a massive rut for me but i’m hoping to spend a bit of time today + in the next couple of days really planning and setting my intentions for may so I have a more productive month for myself! 📖✨ I hope you’ve all had a lovely week + hope next is even better! <3

Silja-Elisa Laitosen romaani Haavat (Tammi, 2023) on toinen osa Suviranta-sarjassa. Sarjan ensimmäinen kirja, Valinta (Tammi, 2022) kertoi nuoresta helsinkiläisestä vauraan perheen ainoasta tyttärestä Raakel Suvirannasta, joka liittyy palavalla innolla perheensä vastustuksesta huolimatta lottiin ja osallistuu jatkosotaan kohdaten itse omin silmin sodan monet kauhut. Tässä Haavat-romaanissa eletään jatkosodan päättymisen jälkeistä rauhan aikaa. Haavat on yli 500-sivuinen teos, joka lähtee liikkeelle hyvin verkkaisesti ja pääsee oikeastaan vauhtiin vasta puolivälin jälkeen. Kirjassa olisi mielestäni siksi ollut tiivistämisen varaa. Tuntuu että kirjan juoni ei oikein missään vaiheessa päässyt lentoon ja jäin odottamaan että siinä tapahtuisi enemmän. Mielenkiintoista oli lukea sotien jälkeisestä Helsingistä ja sen tunnelmista ja ilmiöistä. It's one of the most powerful books I've read in a while. Thank you to @netgalley and @simonschusteruk for my e-arc **AD PR PRODUCT ** This was my first read by Danielle Jawando, and it definitely won't be the last because, wow, is this book impactful! When 15 year old Tyrell gets caught up with the wrong crowd and finds himself involved in an armed robbery, he is convicted and sent to a juvenile prison. He soon learns that in order to survive, he can only trust himself. He can never relax and spends his time in constant flight or fight mode. Ty meets Dadir, who's serving a life sentence for joint enterprise in a murder he didn't commit. He merely nodded at an associate who then went on to kill. Tyrell and Dadir strike up a friendship and have each others backs. Despite the injustice and discrimination they both face, they help each other get through prison life the best way they can. Tyrell is never safe, though, not just from other prisoners but himself, too. Now his release date is coming up, and he's determined to turn his life around. Inspired by Malik, a visiting poet, Tyrell finds the magic of words and finds solace in writing. Will he be able to resist his old lifestyle and friends, and can he really be successful? Hard-hitting and powerful reading If My Words Had Wings reminded me why I love young adult fiction so much. To represent young people who are never talked about, who find themselves at the hands of the justice system that will stereotype, and discriminate against young black people, call them gang members, scrutinise their music choices and even wrongly convict them is something that should be applauded. Danielle gives these young people a voice. I haven't the lived experience of Tyrell and Dadir, but they were so relatable. I felt like I was right there with them. Mein Herz, dieses Buch, einfach nur fantastisch! Foxclove konnte mich genauso wie Belladonna komplett überzeugen und alles hat einfach so gut gepasst✨ Die erste Protagonistin Signa, deren Sicht schon im ersten Band vertreten war, ist eine wunderbare Person, ich liebe ihre Art mit der Welt umzugehen und wie loyal sie jemandem ist den sie nicht immer sehen kann🪻 Die zweite Protagonistin kennt man nur aus Band 1, doch auch sie ist eine schlaue Person und ich kam mit ihrer Sicht auf die Welt einfach super klar, ich fand alle ihre Reaktion immer nachvollziehbar und ich freue mich nur umso mehr auf Band 3, da sie dort auf jeden Fall vorkommen wird💖 Die beiden männlichen Hauptcharaktere der Tod und das Schicksal finde ich einfach nur perfekt, die Idee dahinter ist so brillant, ich liebe die beiden einfach nur🌹 Auch die Storyline fand ich richtig gut, alles hat zueinander gepasst und jeder Plott, jede Wendung hat sich angefühlt wie als wäre gerade mein Herz stehen geblieben. Esta novela ha sido una sorpresa para mi, y ha ido de menos a más a medida que avanzaba con ella. No vamos a encontrar solo las andanzas de Cluny, si no que los personajes que aparecen en su vida tendrán su propia historia y también su protagonismo, mezclándose de una manera muy natural. De esta manera la autora nos va a dar un contexto de la sociedad de la época desde todos los puntos de vista dependiendo de la clase social a la que pertenezca el personaje. Las mujeres llevan el peso de la novela, son mujeres que saben lo que quieren y son fuertes de una manera u otra. Me encantan este tipo de novelas costumbristas en las que parece que no se cuenta nada pero que pasan mil cosas y que reflejan mucho de la sociedad. En definitiva me he divertido mucho con esta novela y os la recomiendo sin lugar a dudas. Local Woman Missing by Mary Kubica Book Review: This book could be it for you but for me, it’s a no. I promised to give this author another shot since I feel like my read of her other book wasn’t fair somehow, but nope, she’s definitely not the author for me too. It starts off with two women and a child missing. We flip through different timelines and POVs trying to crack the issue, but it felt like I was doing math trying to keep up with this. It was draining and in the end, I didn’t feel like it was worth it. This is presumably a very hyped book and I understand that it might be enjoyable. I just didn’t think it was that great. Give it a shot if you pace yourself with your reads, this might be great for you. Quando ero bambina trascorrevo il mese di agosto ad Alicudi, la più piccola delle Isole Eolie, dove passavo buona parte del tempo in acqua, a inseguire pesci ed esplorare i fondali. Ero attratta e affascinata dalla profondità, sceglievo un punto e mi immergevo, là dove il mare si faceva più scuro e più freddo, e mi spingevo sempre di più verso il basso finché sentivo di avere ancora abbastanza aria per tornare su. Ricordo la voglia di scoperta e l’inquietudine di trovarmi, a un certo punto, sospesa nel vuoto, di nuotare quasi alla cieca. Con le dovute proporzioni – ero pur sempre una bambina e quello che allora mi sembrava l’abisso era solitamente il punto in cui si trovava la boa più lontana – leggere “Le nostre mogli negli abissi” mi ha trasmesso quella precisa sensazione. Quel nodo alla gola, quell’inquietudine da cui vorresti scappare, ma che è quasi una droga. “Le nostre mogli negli abissi” è una storia d’amore, un horror malinconico, un viaggio verso l’ignoto. Miri e Leah si amano e la loro vita procede senza eccessivi scossoni finché Leah, biologa marina, non torna profondamente cambiata da una misteriosa missione negli abissi, in “questo mare alchimista che tramuta le cose”. Alternando i punti di vista delle protagoniste, così diverse tra loro – la luna Miri, il sole Leah –, e i piani temporali, scopriamo qualcosa, solo qualcosa, di ciò che è accaduto, mentre Miri raccoglie i pezzi della loro storia. I fatti, però - cosa si nasconde negli abissi, cos’è successo a Leah - non sono poi così rilevanti quanto le loro conseguenze. Manchmal fängt man ein Buch an und weiß, dass es etwas ganz großes wird. Als ich mit "Never tempt your boss" von @sarahsaxx begonnen habe, konnte ich es nicht mehr aus der Hand nehmen. Schon aus den vorherigen Teilen weiß man wer Sarina ist - die Tochter von Kilian Cunningham, dem Cunningham Solutions Inc. gehört. Ihr Vater hat ihr die Verantwortung für die Firma übertragen und so schnell das ging, hat er sie auch wieder beurlaubt. Völlig sauer und frustriert geht sie in einer Bar, wo sie auf ihren sehr attraktiven Kollegen Cameron trifft. Sie verbringen eine Partynacht miteinander und bevor es peinlich wird, trennen sich ihre Wege wieder. Am selben Abend in der Bar sieht Cameron Lennox wieder, den er vor Jahren bei einer Party kennengelernt hat. Auch zwischen ihren fliegen die Funken. Als Cameron Lennox mit Sarina bekannt macht spürt man die Anziehungskraft zwischen den dreien. Doch dann erfährt Sarina wer Lennox wirklich ist und fragt sich, wem sie von den beiden überhaupt vertrauen kann... In dieser Geschichte steht vorallem Ehrlichkeit im Vordergrund. Die drei lernen offen und ehrlich miteinander zu kommunizieren und es ist so unglaublich schön zu lesen wie sie miteinander wachsen. Die drei sind explosiv und diese Party, auf der sie zusammen gehen heizt mehr als nur die Phantasie an. Es ist ein Buch das beschreibt, dass jede Liebe, egal in welcher Konstellation, gut ist wie sie ist. Das man nicht urteilen soll und einfach offener durch das Leben gehen sollte. @sarahsaxx hat mich mit dieser Geschichte extrem berührt und meiner Meinung nach ist es der beste Abschluss einer perfekten Reihe. Now They See Us by Balli Kaur Jaswal ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I love reading anything Balli Kaur Jaswal writes and I will always buy and read her books. She is one of my favourite authors. That being said I found Now They See Us to be an okay read. It is well written, researched and inspired by true events. Shedding light on the experiences and lives of domestic workers in countries such as Singapore. Who leave their home countries to help provide for their families. I found the subject matter and the core themes of the book interesting and what drew me to want to read the novel, and I love that Balli Kaur Jaswal has given these women a voice through her novel. However… I feel like at times the book was pretty rushed towards the end and that also that the same time there wasn’t much investigation. It was a slow beginning and then everything seemed pretty rushed to me. Desde la primera página me dejó sin aliento y tan solo quería y necesitaba continuar para que mi corazón volviese a latir con normalidad. ¡Menuda fatiga! Leer a Javier Castillo es como estar en una montaña rusa pero de esas que dan vértigo, que te desbocan el corazón y que una vez bajas de ella solo logras decir wow y tardas un rato en volver a la normalidad. Así que si, se ha vuelto a pasar el juego. Su trama es trepidante, oscura y por momentos perturbadora… pensar que estas cosas suceden en nuestro mundo da realmente pánico… ¿cómo pueden existir personas así? Bueno, personas no, es que no tienen ni calificativo. Una vez más me ha vuelto a conquistar con todas las reflexiones que encuentras a lo largo de la novela. Son increíbles, de las que te hacen pensar, te llegan y no olvidas. Tiene tanto fondo esta historia y sus personajes que es una auténtica delicia leerla.
