She’s called The Seeker (SOLD) 💛 oil paintsticks, water soluble oil pastels, acrylics, inks, paint pen and pencil, 11” x 14” on canvas. It’s magic when I intuitively know what to do next with a painting. But if I don’t know what to do (which happens all of the time), I pencil in my character using simple shapes. That way, I always have a place to begin. My faces always begin with the same color palette – a circle of titanium white mixed with a flesh tone. Then a layer of Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold acrylic paint for shadows behind the eyes. This creates a surface with a bit of contrast so I can pencil in my initial eyes and features. It all usually changes many times as I add more and more layers, but I always need that initial bit of color to get started. Bumble Bee Vibrationz ✨🌈🐝🫧✨ Art does not adhere to our perceived sense of time. Art always blooms in its own timing ✨ This painting was started back in 2020. I was in love with playing with the background, adding lots of details and sacred geometry. There’s Flower of Life motifs throughout, lots of juicy drips and colours, and then the hexagons on top The painting then sat in various states of “in progress but not quite done” for the next 3 years 😂 Artists, I’m sure you can relate! I knew that this painting was to honour the bees, but a mix of my fear of the unknown and being patient for the “right moment” kept the creative process stuck in time and space. I’ve come to realize that having my work in progress paintings marinate in its incompleteness is sometimes exactly what I need to keep the creative flow going. In the 3 year period I made lots and lots of other artworks. This particular one just needed to exist as it was outside of time. It all came together in its own timing. Bees are integral to our environments, and in supporting so many creatures (very much including humans) and our collective survival on earth. The early stages of a new set of paintings in this evening’s light. I don’t know about you, but at this stage of the game, I always have a minor panic that I’ve forgotten how to paint, what I’ve done looks odd and that it will never come together as a set of pieces that work! The sun!🤸♀️💃 You might remember that I entered this cityscape into a national juried show....it didn't make top 25%😭 The good news is: Low Tide is now free to shift with the breeze 👌 I've been looking at the landscapes on my website (and others that I've reserved for the framer,) the way many are dark toned fascinates me. And most have water, not a surprise to me. I DO love shadows and deep woods... maybe that's what I'm painting🤷♀️ One landscape is in a private collection, it earned recognition in an international competition (which I just realized as I was typing how sweet to be thinking on this as I'm receiving notice of not placing into this show👌😂🙏) I'm thinking I might pull these all together, finish framing those in line, focus on developing their presence further on my website, and maybe learn more about the subjects, what is it that I'm actually painting when a landscape appears...maybe paint more of them... be open... how do I feel, what am I experiencing...? #thoughtsofanartist #intuitivepainter #intuitivepainting
