Just the last part of the linen garment and the project is complete. This time it was not so simple. Haven’t mentioned it yet but it’s the first time it went so wrong 😱. Yaaaah, you read it right. Wrong in the sense of I quit and I start over! I was already over halfway through and the second face went wrong. I had taken wrong proportions somewhere. Proportions make or crack your drawing. Fortunately, I was still able to completely fix it. Thanks to the arches paper I use, I was still able to erase the part very well and draw again. A study with Staedtler Mars Lumograph pencils. O my, rocks are hard to draw with graphite 😂 took what seems absolute ages to finish. But I really loved the outcome. I love these pencils as there is no shine so easy to photograph and definitely saw less of smudging. However I did find creating highlights was v difficult with erasers. I used an electric eraser yet couldn't get d white of the paper which I generally get when I use normal graphite pencils. But I have to agree it was a joy to work with. I never thought the day would come that I would find that pencil has become my least favorite drawing medium! I do want to keep my hand in it though, so occasionally I will do a pencil portrait—with ALL my pencils. This is both graphite and carbon, not very successfully mixed together as you can see. I even threw my good ol’ Ticonderoga no. 2 in the mix! Here's the second drawing of Aubi Gold @aubigold from Wednesday night's figure drawing session at the Labyrinth @thelabyrinthlr. This was a MONSTER pose and it was amazing that she could hold it that long - fifteen minutes! Super bravo hooray for the model! How did I create my black background? And no I didn’t use paint! This took a lot of trial and error to find the drawing medium I liked. I tried, layering charcoal, black pastel, dark graphite and black carbon based graphites. Some were too shiny, others too messy… See which ones you like but for me the Mars Black Lumograph won!
