Scala del Bramante (Vaticano)😍 Le scale servono a collegare piani e dislivelli eppure sono diventate in alcuni casi dei veri capolavori dell'arte! 🎨 Tra le tante progettate in Italia da grandi artisti subito balza alla mente quella che Donato Bramante fece in Vaticano durante il Rinascimento! 😲 Una scala completamente innovativa che ne ispirò molte altre in Italia e in Europa: la scala elicoidale! 🍥 Vi si ispirò Vignola a Caprarola , il Mascherino al Quirinale, e Borromini a Palazzo Barberini. 🤗 La sua forma particolare la fece amare agli architetti anticlassici. 👏 Papa Giulio II commissionò a Bramante una scala per collegare il cortile ottagono e la villa di Innocenzo VIII per creare un ingresso privato per speciali ospiti. 🚪 Qui vi abitarono Bramante stesso, Leonardo da Vinci e oltre la scala anche Michelangelo. 😲 Bramante morì purtroppo prima di finirla e resta quindi incompleta. Una semplice torre in laterizi a base quadrata contiene un cilindro cavo nel quale si svolge, su 21 metri d’altezza una spirale decorata con colonne di ordini diversi: tuscanico, ionico, composito. 🟪🔵 La genialità di Bramante sta nell'aver inserito una spirale in un cilindro dentro un paralleleipedo!🔘 Una forma che, avvitandosi, esprime l’idea del movimento ascensionale e per la prima volta si punta sulla dinamicità con l'elica che non ha inzio né fine, lasciando l'osservatore sbalordito di fronte a questa visione ipnotica che la scala crea.🦇 I problemi tecnici furono tanti perché in una spirale non c’é separazione tra i piani, quindi i tre ordini di colonne furono posti in continuità con lo ionico accanto al tuscanico e così via.🥰 L’altezza dei piani é definita dal passo della spirale, quindi Bramante non poté modulare l’altezza delle colonne, ma solo giocare col diametro dei fusti, che si assottigliano mano a mano che si sale, creando uno splendido effetto visivo. 😍 Un capolavoro senza eguali che ha aperto la strada a nuove sperimentazioni architettoniche! 😀 Avete mai avuto modo di vederla dal vivo? 🤗 Photo byhttps://www.pinterest.it/pin/634796509967010464 #imgViewer

Splashes of color, like the scarlet poppies and yellow daffodils, draw the eye across the canvas to explore the vibrant details of an ancient Roman festival, as meticulously reimagined by Dutch artist Lawrence Alma-Tadema. Spectators leaning over from the rooftops cheer and wave, while more reserved figures acknowledge the procession from the royal box under the central arch. The gold standard in front of them, raised on blue poles and decorated with purple garlands, bears a Latin inscription dedicated to Priapus, the god of nature, gardens, and fertility It is unclear exactly which festival Alma-Tadema meant to depict, but the many references from ancient Rome all indicate a springtime celebration of fertility and abundance, perhaps most resembling Floralia, honoring Flora, goddess of flowers. British May Day traditions were also rooted in the Floralia festival and were revived during the 1800s to celebrate spring and nature in the face of rapid industrialization. On May 1, children decked themselves and their village with flowers, danced, and crowned a May Queen. It's used when a situation is going past the point of no return and originated from the superfamous decision of Julius Caesar, that crossed the river at the head of his army, marched to Rome and started the civil war that at the end will give Caesar the title of dictator. We don't know exactly where the Rubicon was back then: there's a Rubicon river in Romagna but, since a lot of river courses changed since antiquity, we cannot be so sure that that's the river that changed the course of history forever (pun intended!😆). We know that it was between Rimini and Ravenna, on the east coast of Italy, and at this point you have two options: - you can use Google Maps; - you can visit the Vatican Museums and the stunning Gallery of the Maps. Decorated in the late 16th Century for the pope Gregory XIII, it's the longest gallery of the Vatican Palace and it is decorated with incredible maps of the different regions of Italy. Immerse yourself in the beauty of this 16th C atlas and with your eyes wide open try to find the name plate "Flaminia" at the top of the walls. Stiamo parlando di una delle più antiche colonie della magna Grecia la cui fondazione risalirebbe negli anni a cavallo della metà dell'VIII secolo a.C., questa città era interamente protesa verso l'acropoli, dove è possibile trovare l'antro della Sibilla, (collegato al mito della Sibilla Cumana) che ne costituisce il principale elemento d'attrazione turistica di quest'antica città. 🇬🇧 The Mausoleum of the Emperor Augustus was probably completed in 28BC. When you look at it now you see just the shadow of the past glory: all that is left is a massive concrete structure that was just the core of it. Originally its look was way more impressive and it served as a final resting place for Augustus and his family. But then everything fell apart, the Mausoleum was quarried out and went through many other purposes: medieval fortress, private garden, amphitheatre and... concert hall! In 1936- 8 Mussolini dismantled the modern additions to go bring back to light the original imperial structure. Now it stands next to the Ara Pacis, that together woth it was part of a sort of "Augustus theme park" in the Field of Mars and just a few days ago the major of Rome, Virginia Raggi, announced its reopening in 2021. 🇮🇹 Il Mausoleo dell'imperatore Augusto fu completato intorno al 28 AC. Agli occhi dei visitatori moderni esso appare come un'enorme struttura cementizia, che in realtà costituiva soltanto il nucleo interno del monumento. Originariamente il suo aspetto era ben più spettacolare ed il Mausoleo si presentava come il degno contenitore delle ceneri di Augusto e dei membri della sua famiglia. Ma con la fine dell'Impero Romano d'Occidente la situazione a Roma precipitò rapidamente ed il Mausoleo fu dapprima spogliato dei suoi materiali preziosi e poi riconvertito per vari scopi: fu dapprima una fortezza medievale, poi giardino rinascimentale, anfiteatro e perfino sala da concerti. Fu tra il 1936 ed il 1938 che Mussolini abbatté tutte le aggiunte moderne che coprivano il Mausoleo per poter riportare alla luce la struttura imperiale originale. 🇮🇹 L'IMPERATORE NERONE! Sì, lo sappiamo, fu un imperatore molto controverso: per circa cinque anni diede l'impressione di essere un imperatore brillante, giovane e molto promettente ma poi la sua vera indole venne alla luce e...il resto è storia. Oggi preferiamo celebrare una delle sue massime creazioni: la splendida Domus Aurea. Una villa enorme (80 ettari!), costruita proproo nel centro della città di Roma, così grande da sembrare una città nella città! Sì, vero, per la sua costruzione Nerone confiscò terreni, fu probabilmente responsabile di un evento che fu il motivo per il quale quella zona si rivelò disponibile per l'edificazione (il Grande Incendio del 64 D.C., un altro argomento molto delicato nella storia di Roma), ma noi l'abbiamo visitata molte volte e la amiamo! A rustic villa built right in the centre of Rome, so big that could be seen as a sort of city within the City! Yes, we know, he confiscated lands, he was probably responsible for something that was basically the reason why that area became available for the construction of the villa (the Great Fire in 64AD, another very delicate subject in the Roman history, we must say), but we visited it many times and we love it so much! Nuova tappa de #iviaggidelmilone, Flavio e Milo dopo aver lasciato il litorale laziale sono oramai in prossimità di #Cuma ma prima di far ritorno a casa decidono di passare a #Liternum per fare qualche acquisto. Questa città è infatti famosa oltre che per la pesca anche per la produzione del vetro (utilizzando la finissima sabbia del suo litorale), infine si possono aggiungere le numerose botteghe gestite da profumieri, ceramisti e artigiani vari che fanno di questa città un centro commerciali in forte espansione soprattutto tra la fine del I ed il II secolo d.c, grazie alla realizzazione della #ViaDomiziana la strada che riporterà i due ragazzi a Cuma e collegava i vari centri della costa campana ed in particolare il porto di #Puteoli, l'odierna Pozzuoli, dove la strada terminava. At his death L. Aelius Lamia, consul in the year 3 A.D., donated his splendid gardens on the Esquiline to the emperor Tiberius. They were a set of gardens located atop the Esquiline Hill in Rome, in the area around the present Piazza Vittorio Emanuele. Nineteenth-century excavations brought to light some remains of the architectural structures that decorated the park, including a portico fronting rooms decorated with frescoes. The sculptures found over the centuries are vast in number and just magnificent and many of them are displayed in the Capitoline Museums, in a gallery dedicated to the memory of these incredible gardens. In december 1471 pope Sixtus IV donated to the Roman People a group of remarkable bronze statues: the She-wolf, the Spinario (boy pulling out a thorn), the Camillus, the head and the hand with the sphere of the colossus of Constantine. The donation of the Pope is considered to be the foundation act of the Capitoline Museums, the oldest public collection in the world and these bronze statues have been displayed in the Palazzo dei Conservatori ever since. Yes, but not in the same room: the Spinario and the Camillus are usually displayed in the Room of the Triumphs, the She-wolf in the room that took its name after her, the fragments of the colossus of Constantine in the Esedra built to showcase another impressive masterpiece of the capitoline collection, the equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius. At the moment all these bronze statues are displayed in the Esedra, for a temporary exhibition dedicated to the Torlonia collection that will open to the public in few weeks. L'ultimo post di #viaggidaquarantena fu nella necropoli vaticana e qui incontrammo due personaggi che ci accompagneranno alla scoperta del mondo romano fatto di vari popoli e culture che convivevano all'interno dei suoi confini. Vi parleremo della storia di un mercante di vino, Flavio Scribonio Milone e del suo fedele schiavo Milo, che si spingeranno fino ai confini dell'impero spinti dalla voglia di accrescere il nome della loro famiglia ma anche dalla voglia di superare le classiche rotte commerciali superando la paura dell'ignoto. La prima tappa di questo nuovo viaggio sarà proprio dal centro politico, giuridico, religioso ed economico della città di Roma, oltre che il centro nevralgico dell'intera civiltà romana, il Foro Romano e precisamente dalla colonna miliaria nota anche come Miliarium aureum. Si trattava di una colonna marmorea rivestita di bronzo dorato nei pressi del tempio di Saturno, all'estremità del Foro Romano. Questa colonna venne eretta da Augusto nel 20 a.C., quando divenne curator viarum, era collocato simmetricamente all'Umbilicus urbis rispetto all'arco dei Rostra.
