Santander, Cantabria La ciudad es famosa por su bahía y por sus playas especialmente en la zona del Sardinero donde se encuentran varios hoteles y residencias de lujo. El Palacio Real de La Magdalena fue un regalo que hizo la ciudad a los Reyes Alfonso XIII y Victoria Eugenia, quienes lo utilizaron a partir de 1913 durante dos décadas, como residencia de veraneo. Como dato curioso, el Palacio de la Magdalena fue donde se filmó el Gran Hotel de la serie famosa española. En el casco antiguo de la ciudad, la Catedral son dos iglesias superpuestas, la inferior es la iglesia de Cristo del S. XIII con una altura de apenas cuatro metros y actúa como cripta de la alta, que corresponde a la de la Asunción. Otras construcciones importantes en este casco antiguo son el Ayuntamiento, el edificio de Correos y la Plaza Portificada. Otra moderna construcción y centro de exposiciones es el Centro Botín de Pritzker Renso Piano abierto en 2017. Bilbao, país Vasco Luego de la inundación de Bilbao en 1983, la ciudad comienza un nuevo ciclo y resurge convirtiéndose en una ciudad moderna. El Museo Guggenheim de Frank Gehry con su diseño de barco a orillas del Nervión es el ícono de la ciudad. Así vimos también las entradas en semicírculos del moderno metro, las vistas del puente Zubizuri que junto con otros puentes completan el Bilbao nuevo y antiguo a lo largo de la Ría, donde encontramos coloridos y elegantes edificios. La Plaza Don Federico Moyúa, también remodelada, tiene a su alrededor edificios elegantes como el Palacio Chávarri (con todas sus ventanas distintas) y con sus 7 calles que salen a su alrededor como la Gran Vía, una calle de tiendas elegantes, la caminamos con mucha atención a todo. En el casco antiguo vimos su Catedral, el Ayuntamiento, el Teatro Arriaga, el mercado de la Ribera y la iglesia de San Nicolás. Paises Vascos Entrando a Hondarribia, la ciudad amurallada y casco antiguo por su Puerta, caminando por calles adoquinadas y edificios con escudos de armas y el castillo de Carlos V, hoy parador de turismo, con una gran historia real. En el barrio de pescadores encontramos los bares y casas pintadas de rojo, verde y azul que era la pintura sobrante de los barcos para avivar las fachadas de sus casas. Después fuimos a Guernica, para ver el famoso mural, una réplica del cuadro de Pablo Picasso donde plasma el horror que sufrieron sus habitantes en la guerra civil en 1937, cuando la legión alemana Condor, apoyando a Franco, bombardea la ciudad un día de mercado con mujeres y niños para experimentar bombardeos sobre poblaciones civiles futuras. Su iglesia de Santa María sufrió daños pero sigue en pie desde el bombardeo y se encuentra frente a la Casa de Juntas y el árbol de Guernica símbolos del pueblo Euskadi. San Sebastián, Pais Vasco Desde sus dos montes, el Urgull e Igueldo, la ciudad luce sus playas, tanto la Concha como Ondarreta. El casco viejo, con sus calles peatonales, sus iglesias, bares y restaurantes, hacen de Donosti un buen paseo. La catedral con su torre preciosa que luce desde varios puntos del casco, otras como la Basílica de Santa María del Coro y la Iglesia de San Vicente son muy antiguas. La plaza de la Constitución interesante por haber sido anteriormente plaza de toros con sus balcones numerados ya que se usaban como palcos. Por ser domingo el ayuntamiento y el Palacio de Miramar estaban cerrados. Y como es conocido, la cocina de San Sebastián fue de primera, acompañada por un excelente vino. Pamplona, Navarra Antes de salir de la Rioja pasamos por Santo Domingo de la Calzada donde nos encontramos muchos peregrinos haciendo el camino a Santiago. Su catedral es muy bonita y con un gran retablo, su torre de 70 metros esta construida adyacente y subimos a ver sus campanas. Luego nos fuimos a Pamplona a conocer el famoso lugar de las fiestas de San Fermín. El Santo se encuentra en la Parroquia de San Lorenzo y su imagen guarda sus reliquias en el óvalo del pecho. En la catedral de Santa María están los sepulcros reales de Carlos III de Navarra y Leonor de Castilla. Caminamos por el casco antiguo en Paseo del Redín , una calle medieval, peatonal que bordea la muralla y por las calles donde corren los toros el día del encierro en las fiestas de San Fermín. La Rioja Día completo visitando viñedos en la Rioja y nos enfocamos solamente en 3 pueblos. Comenzamos en Elciego, la Rioja Alavesa, que es País Vasco, para visitar la bodega Marqués de Riscal con la famosa obra y hotel de Frank Gehry donde tomamos el tour. De ahí a Samaniego, también región Vasca, hicimos una cata en Remirez de Ganuza y luego comimos en Palacio de Samaniego, excelente recomendación. Aquí se encuentra Macan de Rotchschild y Vega Sicilia, aunque no tienen visitas. Terminamos el día en Haro donde vimos Muga, Gómez Cruzado, López de Heredia y La Rioja Alta y además tuvimos dos recomendaciones para comer en otro viaje, Nublo y Casa Terete. Es muy interesante que aquí en Haro existan dos iglesias con retablos espectaculares, la Parroquia de Santo Tomás Apóstol y su Catedral de la Virgen de la Vega. Aínsa y Jaca, Huesca Siguiendo hacia los Pirineos y cerca de Francia está Aínsa, un pueblo auténticamente medieval en lo alto de una montaña; nos hospedamos en un hotel de 6 habitaciones en el casco antiguo, el desayuno fue en una cava. Caminamos por sus calles empedradas, visitando su iglesia y el castillo. Las vistas de los picos nevados de los Pirineos en mayo y de sus dos ríos que lo flanquean, son de fotografía. Este es de los pueblos que más nos ha gustado en el viaje. Más tarde visitamos Jaca, otra ciudad en Huesca con una ciudadela en forma de estrella del S.XVI y que sirvió para defender la ciudad. La catedral del S.XI fue construída para el desarrollo del comercio en el camino de Santiago y alguna vez aquí estuvo el Santo Grial. Alquézar, Huesca En la sierra de Guara, arriba de una gran roca esta un castillo de origen árabe del año 851, que cristianizado en 1067 se transforma en la Colegiata de Santa María con su iglesia. En sus alrededores esta su casco antiguo con preciosas casitas, calles empedradas, hoteles, tiendas y restaurants para callejonear y pasear, ya que además de las preciosas vistas, este lugar ofrece varias actividades para deporte de aventura . Está en la región del Somontano donde se produce vino con DO. Un lugar maravilloso para tener casa de fin de semana. Zaragoza Todo en una sola plaza!! La ciudad con dos catedrales, la famosa Catedral Basílica de la Virgen del Pilar, enorme y con un extraordinario retablo y su muy bonita Santa Capilla; y la Catedral Metropolitana o de la Seo del Salvador, una verdadera obra de arte donde cada capilla es casi una pequeña iglesia. Esto se debe a un conflicto entre templos que terminó con una Bula de Clemente X en 1676 que le dió a la ciudad, un cabildo y dos catedrales, ambas en la plaza de Nuestra Señora del Pilar donde también vimos el edificio de la Lonja y la iglesia de San Pablo. Frente a la iglesia, el mercado que siempre tienen una arquitectura para disfrutar. All in one square!! Besalú y Castellfolit de la Roca en la Garrotxa La entrada al casco antiguo de Besalú es majestuosa por el puente medieval del S. XI. Las callejuelas muestran el paso de la comunidad judía por cinco siglos y existen restos de la Mikvé, donde se hacían los baños de purificación y la antigua Sinagoga, importante ir a la oficina de turismo para entrar. Callejoneamos entre sus plazas, entre sus arcos hay cafeterías y restaurantes, visitamos el Monasterio de Sant Pere y la Iglesia de Sant Vicent. Luego fuimos a Castellfolit de la Roca, con una impresionante panorámica desde la parte de abajo. Es un pueblo que cuelga sobre un risco de 50 metros de altura y 1 kilómetro de largo donde lo más llamativo es su Iglesia y su campanario. Tossa del Mar y Girona Ahora en el norte de Cataluña, en Tossa que es un pueblo medieval en la Costa Brava del Mediterráneo, muy interesante pues se encuentra sobre una montaña con vista al mar y con una fortificación construída en el siglo XIII para proteger al pueblo contra piratas. El castillo se encuentra a lo alto del acantilado con lo que sus vistas son muy bonitas. También fue lugar de encuentro de artistas y pintores de todo el mundo. De ahí a Girona, otro pueblo en Cataluña que es famoso por sus casas del Onyar colgantes y coloridas sobre el río. Su casco antiguo rodeado por murallas medievales mezcla culturas cristianas como su catedral que fue escenario de la serie Juego de Tronos y su claustro del S. XII., la basílica de Sant Feliu, el barrio judío, plazas porticadas, los baños árabes y muchas calles lindas para pasear. Hoy domingo fuimos a ver a la Virgen de los catalanes, la Virgen de Montserrat, “La Moreneta”, una misa solemne con coro de niños excepcional. Nosotros visitamos únicamente la Basílica. Luego fuimos a la región de Penedés para visitar algunos viñedos y regresamos a comer a Barcelona ya que queríamos ver mas obras del Arquitecto modernista Lluis Domènech i Montaner, como la casa Fuster que es hotel, la casa Thomas, además de la casa Lleó Morera que ya habíamos visitado. Por la tarde subimos a conocer la montaña del Tibidabo, con su Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón, aunque ya nos tocó cerrada pero, si tomamos foto. Barcelona. En este tercer día empezamos visitando el Palacio de Música Catalana, otro lugar precioso del arquitecto modernista Lluis Domènech i Montaner decorado con extraordinaria ornamentación. Luego nos dirigimos al funicular del monte judío Montjuic para después subirnos al teleférico y llegar hasta el castillo para disfrutar de las vistas de la ciudad. Bajamos caminando hasta el área de cruceros, parando para comer en Martinez un buen arroz socarrat. Siendo nuestro último día nos dedicamos a pasear por todo el litoral del Mediterráneo y las playas de Barceloneta y Xiroi que como buen sábado, estaban llenas. Regresamos por la calle de la Marina y volver a ver la Sagrada Familia y así terminar otro largo día. Gaudí llegamos al hospital Sant Pau, una joya modernista del arquitecto Montaner. En el barrio de la Gràcia vimos la casa Vicens, primera obra de Gaudí, y en el paseo de Gràcia, el edificio Milà o Pedrera, la casa Batlló, que junto a Amatller, Mulleras, Lleó Moreras y Josefina Bonet, compitieron por el premio urbanístico de Barcelona. Seguimos por la Gran Vía de los Corts Catalanes para ver la Universidad, casa Golferichs y Pere Brias hasta llegar a la plaza de España. Terminamos en el bar Paradiso. Barcelona Comenzamos pasando por el Arco del Triunfo y el parque de la Ciudadela, luego al mercado de Santa Caterina, el Museo de Picasso con una colección desde su infancia donde pintaba como adulto, hasta ya de adulto que pintaba como niño; la Basílica de Santa María del Mar hasta llegar al mural urbano “el beso”. En el barrio Gótico entramos a la Catedral y sus claustros para seguir recorriendo calles y plazas. Paseamos por Las Ramblas, viendo edificios como Casa Bruno y sus sombrillas y el mercado de la Boquería. Por la tarde caminamos por la Rambla del Poblenou y su playa Mar Bella. La Basílica de Santa María La Mayor comenzada en 1265, preciosa, con su escalera que sube al coro y el retablo del altar nos encantó. Luego llegamos a la comunidad de Cataluña, Tortosa, a orillas del río Ebro. Ciudad bimilenaria con influencias de varias culturas. Su casco antiguo con su catedral de Santa María que pasó de ser foro romano, a mezquita y luego a catedral y su Castillo que fuera construído encima de una antigua acrópolis romana, hoy un precioso Parador Nacional. En su periodo islámico se construyó la muralla, en 1148 se convirtió en prisión y después en residencia Real. Vilafamés, Peñíscola Seguimos recorriendo la Comunidad Valenciana, ahora en Vilafamés. Dentro de su casco histórico, empezamos caminando en la plaza Font para ver las vistas hacia el castillo y la Iglesia de la Asunción. Subiendo por la calle empinada, encuentras la Roca Grossa, que es uno de los atractivos del lugar. Caminamos por el barrio de El Cuartijo, que es la zona mas antigua para caminar entre sus callecitas empinadas rodeadas de las antiguas murallas árabes. Luego manejamos a Peñíscola. Un lugar muy bonito turístico de playa en una península y en lo alto de la montaña el Castillo del Papa Luna, donde se autoexilió el papa Benedicto XIII, Pedro Martínez de Luna. Desde el castillo, la vista hacia el Mediterráneo con sus aguas cristalinas, es muy bonita. Bajamos por sus callejuelas de tiendas y restaurantes hasta el bufador para escucharlo y disfrutar un rato. La combinación de las playas color turquesa y el castillo medieval son una postal. We continue touring the Valencian Community, now in Vilafamés. Within its historic center, we start walking in Plaza Font to see the views towards the castle and the Church of the Assumption. Going up the steep street, you find the Roca Grossa, which is one of the attractions of the place. We walked through the El Cuartijo neighborhood, which is the oldest area to walk through its steep streets surrounded by the old Arab walls. Then we drove to Peñíscola. A very beautiful beach tourist place on a peninsula and at the top of the mountain the Castle of Papa Luna, where Pope Benedict XIII, Pedro Martínez de Luna, went into self-exile. Alicante, Xàbia, Dénia Caminamos por la Explanada de España en Alicante, una avenida paralela al puerto con el suelo de mosaico de colores imitando las olas del Mediterráneo. Su puerto con decenas de barcos y yates que hacen agradable el paseo. Caminamos por el Ayuntamiento y llegamos a ver la Concatedral de San Nicolás, construída sobre lo que fué una mezquita y también entramos a la Basílica de Santa María. Salimos de Alicante y nos fuimos a Altea, además de unas lindas vistas del Mediterráneo, comimos muy rico; pedimos zamburiña que no conocíamos, además de ostras y pescado, todo delicioso. De ahí nos fuimos a Xàbia y a Dénia, dos destinos muy turísticos que además fueron de la época del Medievo; en Xàbia caminamos por sus callecitas y visitamos la iglesia de San Bartolomé. Valencia Hoy fue turno de la ciudad antigua de Valencia donde vivieron romanos, musulmanes y después cristianos. Empezamos visitando la Basílica de la Virgen de los Desamparados por ser la patrona de la ciudad y después un tour de su Catedral gótica que alguna vez fue mezquita. Caminamos por muchas de sus plazas y edificios históricos como el Ayuntamiento, el edificio de Correos, la Lonja de la Seda hasta llegar a la estación del Norte con su vestíbulo de mosaicos y la plaza de toros. Llegamos a las torres de Serranos que fuera una fortificación medieval igual que la torre de Quartz. Comimos arroz meloso y después en el mercado Colón un helado de crema de chufa, cómo los gozamos. Muy interesante visitar la Iglesia de San Nicolás que es la Capilla Sixtina de Valencia y terminamos el día en el museo de las Bellas Artes. Today it was the turn of the ancient city of Valencia where Romans, Muslims and later Christians lived. Cuenca Dejando Madrid, manejamos a Castilla La Mancha para llegar a Cuenca. Nos faltaba por ver el Museo de arte Thyssen-Bornemisza en Madrid con pinturas de Picasso, Carvaggio, Rembrandt, Monet, Degas, Gauguin entre otros y algunas esculturas en mármol de Auguste Rodin. Comimos en Caluana, una antigua capilla barroca, que hoy es restaurante y cuyo sótano, el bar, conecta con algunos túneles de la Guerra Civil. Pasear por la ciudad de noche es un espectáculo, viendo sus majestuosos edificios muy iluminados.
