I remember very clearly going to get my first pair from our local Army and Navy Store and picking up a second hand east German army shirt too, as you did back in the 90s grunge days. In the past I have taken part in some drawing exhibitions, but was dismissed as my embroidery isn’t a drawing according to them. Which they are very wrong about of course, it IS a drawing, just drawn using a different medium. The needle of the machine is used as a pen/pencil, and the thread is the line left behind. You would think that in this day and age, where textiles is finally taking a (small) place in the art world, one would have a wider view of the drawn line. As its #tbt I thought I'd share again my 12 " embroidered illustration of my DM boots @drmartensofficial These are my current pair also battered but my originals I still have are from about '92. My mum came with me to our local Army and Navy store to get them and I got them plus a second hand East German army shirt and some woollen socks. Totally rocking the grunge 🤟 I was so excited not sure my mum was! 😁. What I love most about them is that they are the keeper of all the stories the nights out, the laughs, the tears,the secrets.
