⭐️🫠 I don't have much to say about this one, other than I don't get the hype and I didn't like it. The story follows Esther, an intern at a New York fashion magazine, with the lifestyle to match. However, when she returns home from her internship, she descends into a dark place and the reader watches her mental health spiral. That is essentially the whole book. It sounds like something I would enjoy, being interested in Psychology and having suffered with mental illness myself, but I just didn't. Not only was Esther majorly unlikeable, the book also had many racist remarks that were completely avoidable. Yes this was written in the 60s, but I don't understand how readers just ignore these comments. Also I found the story disjointed and just unclear. První dílo Sylvie Plath, které se mi kdy dostalo do rukou. Já se ale musím přiznat, že si stále nejsem jistá, jestli se mi vlastně líbilo.🤔 USA, New York, 50. léta, mladá Ester studuje na univerzitě a stále neví, co se svým životem. Hledá sama sebe, stále se nenachází a nikam moc nezapadá. Její studentská léta jsou naplněna prázdnotou. Chce psát, ale nejde jí to. Jediné k čemu její život směřuje je pád do nekonečných depresí. Začíná to insomnií, pokračuje pokusem o sebevraždu a končí pobytem v psychiatrické léčebně. Od poloviny knihy je to jen jedna velká úzkost umocněná i tím, že sama autorka měsíc po vydání knihy dobrovolně ukončila svůj život. 💔 Číst tyto řádky a mít na mysli fakt, že jde o částečnou autobiografii…uff.😓 Chápu, proč je (nebo byla době svého vydání) kniha tak populární. Témata, která otevírá, jsou aktuální pořád a některé věci se ve společnosti ani po tak dlouhé době nemění. Nicméně kvůli tomu, že je tato kniha považována za naprostou klasiku, kterou si zkrátka musíte přečíst, jsem měla možná moc velká očekávání. Moc mi nesedl autorčin styl a vadila mi ta strohost textu. Na druhou stranu musím uznat, že na tuto knihu asi jen tak nezapomenu. Co vy? When I picked it up again at 22, living in London in 1998, I think I must have been searching for touchpoints. An anchor.
