May Race: Riverbank Run 25k 🏃🏼♀️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The theme for today’s race: Faster as a mother. 🔥 It was an epic race morning with a 2 min *course* PR. 🙌🏻 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In full transparency, I registered for this race two days ago. 🙈 I was keeping an eye on the weather and decided to make a last minute decision regarding distance (10k or 25k) based on how I was feeling (this sickness has been lingering way too long). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Today was about so much more than speed, though. Last year I was registered for Riverbank Run, but mom-life and postpartum reality prevented me from actually showing up at the start line. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Highlights from today: ▪️ Fueling was on point! Diligently took in @guenergylabs or @maurten_official every 30 mins and @saltstick every 45 mins. I broke the “nothing new on race day” rule with the Maurten… and wow, okay I get the hype. The extra caffeine really gave me a boost at Mile 10! 🙌🏻 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ▪️ Started off conservatively and was smart about pacing. Growing up as a “gifted” child academically, I was taught to strive for perfection. This left no room in my mind for anything less and I was too afraid to try anything that was not immediately perfect. As an adult I’ve had to do quite a bit of learning and unlearning to truly find myself. I’ve learned to be kinder to myself, that it’s okay to make imperfect things, that mistakes are meant to be learned from, and there is beauty in chaos. I take a lot of inspiration from my niece and nephew. They create with no inhibitions, no ulterior motives, sometimes not even for the finished product, but for the joy and fun of the creative process.

Two days ago a FB member of our group made a post suggesting others to take their solar glasses to look at the sun as it had an incredibly large sunspot. That sunspot ended up being a lot more a few days later as solar flares began erupting. On May 10th, NASA’s Solar Dynamic Observatory captured the image shared in this post of the solar flare. They classified it as a X3.9 which ended up reaching X5.8 and X1.5 as shown in another photo. Due to the solar flares being strong bursts of energy, it caused a pretty hefty solar storm for Earth. These disturbances on the earth’s magnetosphere cause what are known as Auroras. Typically, these auroras circle around the northern pole and can at times reach northern Michigan. Due to the recent solar storm that we experienced May 10th, a lot of people around the West Michigan area are reporting their sighting of these beautiful pink and green lights in the night sky.
