Bogle Family Essential Red 2021🍇 - started out with a hint of pepper and spice so I thought was originally from Argentina in a blind tasting, but as the flavor progressed into a super rounded sweet finish it had the distinct characteristics of being a California wine. Very complex flavors of prune and blackberry with that peppery spice. Love a good red blend! Finish was medium bodied, very balanced. As were the tannins and acidity too. -7.5/10
Grüner Veltliner🍏 - this wine was super dry and tart, had the exact same flavor profile of a 1911 Cider. Crisp green apple with undertones of lemon that helped to boost the acidic component. It was very light-bodied, almost watery. Pretty delicious but maybe a little too tart for my preferences. -6.3/10

A toast to my ancestors 🍷🍷🍷 Immersed in the #Lingnanarchitecture style which began with visiting my ancestors’ village in China where everyone shared the same last name as my family, in the Chung Shan region of Canton province same as the village of #SuenYatSen (the revolutionist known as the father of the nation), just a short drive away. Pics 1-3: interior wall paintings and calligraphy on the high ceilings of the house probably built in the 19th century. Important furnitures and decors were lost after the wars and revolutions and it has been left uninhabited for years… gold leaf adornments on wood carvings have already lost their nuance…Please DM if you have specialist referrals in Canton for restoration. Pic 4: The family house of Suen Yat Sen, now a national heritage site, well maintained by the State. The structure, the floors and the blue brick 青磚walls are in the same style as our humble village buildings. Pics 5-7: by visiting the village of Suen Yat Sen (now a state owned museum village) we could see back the interiors and furniture styles from the era. Pics 8-9: Our area has long been a source of large oysters, many walls were built with the shells. These oysters are usually eaten cooked. I had some seriously flavorful grilled ones this time at a restaurant by the river ❤️. Pic 10: A memorable village cuisine of local fish and duck. My other half brought a bottle of easy drinking Bordeaux (his family’s region) clear wine #clairet in bright red color to meet my ancestors. Probably their first time having French wine 😁. 👉🏻For the extravagant version of Lingnan architectural style, especially for the refined exterior carvings and rooftop sculptures, must visit the Chen Clan Academy in Guangzhou.
