And just like that…April is done! #crochetedtemperatureblanket recording the high temperatures in my neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY. I noticed that some (many?) people in the community marked the day of the earthquake and the solar eclipse with different colors. I chose not to do that, but I might go back in at a later date and embroider another thread on those days. Also might put another thread on the day my younger son turned 18. Haven’t made those decisions yet.
Tempwrature Blanket update. Rows #6 & #7 completed, which means I've roughly done one-third of the blanket. Love watching it grow :-) Love how it's gone from peach and pinks to yellows (maximums) and how my centres are now mainly in the green shades (minimums) and hopefully as autumn turns to winter will see the greens replace the yellow. And this time I’m posting one more extra motif. 💜💙🩵💚 As I mentioned last week, I urgently had to change the layout and needed to add two more hexagons. In the end, I decided to make one motif each for the days of the spring and autumn equinox. This week was unusually warm for the end of March, on Sunday it was even 21 degrees Celsius. 😍💚💛🧡 But today everything is back to normal, wind, rain and snow again ☔🌨️😔 I'm ready to sew together my motifs. In fact, I already sewed them last week using my first layout, but everything went wrong, the result was absolutely terrible. 🤦 Therefore, I had to rip out all the seams and urgently come up with a new layout. Now my blanket will have two extra motifs. The first of them is almost ready, but I run out of yarn. March is completed on my #2024TemperatureBlanket. It’s now starting to grow sideways as well as long. You can see how the new panel is connected to the older one row by row. It’s a very cool technique. My crochet hook broke in the middle of a row last week (the metal tube that connects to the wire popped off) and stitches came tumbling off the hook! It was quite the adventure trying to regather those tiny loops without losing them, but we did manage to fix her. And Krazy Glued that baby back together. What I’ve learned: 1. Make sure the first stitch of each row is loose enough so that your hook can be inserted when the time comes. 2. A pointier hook head would make the job easier. (I may go looking for one when I’m up to panel 3.) 3. When burying yarn ends, keep them FAR away from the edge, so you don’t try to use them to attach the next panel by mistake. 4. DON’T crochet when your eyes are closing from exhaustion. You will forget what your instructions are. I accidentally attached the new row into the FULL first stitch of the previous row (instead of the back loop and rear “hump”) a couple of times, and you can see the difference - and the bit of a mess it made - in picture 2. BTW…that random gold stripe? It’s to honor a very special birthday…March 19th, the day I turned 60! March, a month of rain and gales, came and went in a flash. Got to decide if I do 3 long panels of 4 months, or 4 shorter ones of 3 months each. The 2024 Temperature blanket I’m making for myself. I am loving how it’s turning out. I’m using the African Flower motif with the center being the coldest temperature and the next two rounds being the high temperature.
