Finally I was able to restore my account, I don’t know why Instagram doesn’t like me so much. Therefore, it is time to share all the 3D progress during this time. I completed the biggest and most massive course I've taken so far - Super Blender. Looking ahead, my impressions of it are more negative than positive, although there were a lot of cool things in it. But first things first. The course consists of 7 chapters plus one bonus chapter. Each chapter is devoted to some aspect of the blender and lasts from 2 to 7 hours. My main complaint is that the practice starts halfway through the third chapter. That is, one third of the course is long, tedious and stuffy theoretical lessons, most of which, for those who are already more or less familiar with blender, will not bring any new information. My second complaint is that there is very little actual modeling in the course. In fact, we make only one full-fledged, albeit relatively simple model - a revolver. #3dairy #blender #blender3d #blenderart #blender3dart #blender3dmodelling #blendercommunity #blendershare #3d #3dart #3dmodel #3dmodeling #render #rendering #render3d #3drender #3drenders #blenderrender #b3d #d #dart

Exactly one month has passed since the publication of the last work. Having finished work on the cruiser, I started a new independent work. Then I made this knight for another surprise mini-course from Knower. Then I began to do independent work on this course, while at the same time doing independent work on the previous one... Then I began a new independent work on both courses at once. In the end, I realized that here and there some garbage comes out. Today I understood what the root of the problem is: I don’t just want to make models as it will turn out, I want to make models well, of a high level and quality. I want to take a reference that I like and be able to make a model out of it. Those things that I undertake and that I still want to create are incomparably more difficult than what I can do at the moment. As a result, I have to choose: either do what I want, but it’s bad, or do it well, but not what I want, but what I have enough skills for. In the end, I decided to quit all the things that I had been working on all this month and do other courses to improve my skill. For me, as for a person who is used to finishing what he started, such a decision was not easy, but this is an important skill - having reached a dead end, not to drive into the wall, but to find the strength in yourself to take a few steps back to go the other way. #3dairy #blender #blender3d #blenderart #blender3dart #blender3dmodelling #blendercommunity #blendershare #3d #3dart #3dmodel #3dmodeling #render #rendering #render3d #3drender #3drenders #blenderrender #b3d #d #dart

While working on this... work, I realized one very important thing. I no longer want to try to reproduce something on my own. First, it severely limits actions. There was a great desire to experiment, to try different interesting things, to add some elements, but attachment to the reference was very limiting. Secondly, no matter how hard I try, my skill is not yet enough to reproduce something as detailed and close to the original as possible. Even after the previous course, working with materials and textures remains a dark forest for me, because I can reproduce the materials that were used for the aircraft, but I cannot create something new, or accurately reproduce what I do not already have. In the future, I want my independent work to be more creative and let my imagination run wild. I am not satisfied with this work because it did not serve the purpose for which it was made. Perhaps I will try to make another work, without references, completely out of my head, so that nothing limits me, but at the same time, it is close in structure to what I took from the course and using the same materials. #3dairy #blender #blender3d #blenderart #blender3dart #blender3dmodelling #blendercommunity #blendershare #3d #3dart #3dmodel #3dmodeling #render #rendering #render3d #3drender #3drenders #blenderrender #b3d #d #dart #starwars #stardestroyer #stardestroyers

Hello. My name is Khot (pronounced as Hot). I created this account in order to duplicate posts from my VK page. But I did not expect that someone would view and like these posts. All of this is nothing but my diary of learning 3D modeling. If you are studying 3D modeling, like me, perhaps these posts will be useful to you. Therefore I decided to translate all previous posts into English (so now you can read their content). I also decided to re-post the render of my Necropolis castle from Heroes 3, because in the previous post it came out clumsily. Now I'm working on a huge independent work, so a new post with the result will not be soon. Setting a deadline is a very useful thing, because if not for it, I would hardly have been able to complete the second part of the course in just a week. As a result, it took me exactly two weeks of modeling days for the entire course. Previously, with the old schedule, it took me about a month to complete smaller "free" courses. And if not for the restructuring of the schedule, this my first serious course, consisting of as many as 51 lessons, I would have been doing for two months. The second part of the course was much more difficult for me than the first, because there was work in a completely unfamiliar territory for me, namely the creation and generation of full-fledged high-quality materials. If in the first part of the course I often ran ahead of the teacher and sometimes foresaw the necessary actions, then in the second part I mostly stuck, not understanding what was happening at all. A general understanding of node bundles has come to me, but it will be very difficult for me to go through this stage again during independent work. The course contains a kind of mini-plot, during which we need to build The Moo-plane and save a cow that was kidnapped by aliens in the previous Blender Start mini-marathon. And since instead of cows I made pigs there, I decided to continue this topic and as a result turned out here is The Pigplane-3000. I am so used to the teacher Pavel that I have absolutely no desire to take any other courses and I want to immediately go to the next course from Kaino, but it is simply necessary to hold my horses, because in the next course, very serious things will begin and I am afraid to take other courses after it. This will simply not be interesting, and perhaps not necessary. Therefore, the next course I will take something a little more mundane in order to consolidate all the skills I have gained. Well, of course, this will be after independent work, based on the acquired knowledge. I have not yet decided what kind of work it will be, I will think about it on Monday (you can leave your suggestions), but for now I will go on a well-deserved rest. #3dairy #blender #blender3d #blenderart #blender3dart #blender3dmodelling #3d #3dart

I decided to make mini reports on different stages of the completed courses, firstly, because there will be too much information and pictures for the whole course, and secondly, in order to write posts more often, as well as to better systematize the information and update the knowledge gained. So, the first part of my first "paid" course Blender 2.0 from Kaino has been successfully completed. And this is really a serious step forward compared to what I went through before. First of all, this is the transition from low poly to more graphically high poly modeling, familiarity with its features and understanding of its principles (you can clearly see the difference in the screenshots with the mechanisms). A lot of new tools that make life easier, additional non-obvious features of old, already known tools. And of course, close work with subdivision surface and bevel modifiers. And also, what pleased me the most was the active work with the boolean modifier. For those who are not in the subject and read these posts just because, this is a modifier that "drills" holes in a solid object, as if subtracting one object from another. It is very disliked and often avoided, because its use in inept hands is extremely dangerous, as it can disrupt the geometry of the object. Moreover, this violation will be imperceptible for an inexperienced beginner, and he will be able to feel all the consequences only at the texturing stage. I encountered such a problem when working on the castle, because of which a lot had to be redone. So, in this course, instead of avoiding boolean, they teach you how to work with it correctly and restore the geometry of an object after applying a modifier. This restoration is still such a quest, and everything is complicated by the fact that the new geometry of your object can be very different from what the teacher got. But this process is very interesting and fascinating, such a mini-puzzle, which I almost always tried to solve first on my own, and then to see how the teacher does it. In any case, no matter what the boolean does, restoring the geometry is often more interesting and faster than trying to achieve the same result witout boolean

After the castle, for a long time there was no opportunity to model properly (all my free time was taken up by D&D), now I'm finally returning. Before taking serious courses, I decided to warm up a little and refresh my memory on the basics. Passed mini marathon Blender Start from Kaino. I will not do independent work on this mini course, and tomorrow I will immediately start my first "paid" Blender 2.0 course from the same Kaino University. #3dairy #blender #blender3d #blenderart #blender3dart #blender3dmodelling #blendercommunity #blendershare #3d #3dart #3dmodel #3dmodeling #render #rendering #render3d #3drender #3drenders #blenderrender #b3d #d #dart #kaino

Another independent work is finally completed. Necropolis castle from Heroes 3. I would say that it was even more difficult for me than the hydralisk and I am even more proud of it. Despite the fact that it took relatively little time to model the castle itself, most of the time was spent on texturing. The most difficult and incomprehensible side of 3D for me. I had to really mess around to find the right textures (I ended up trying about 50 materials for the walls alone) and really understand the essence of uv unwrapping, which used to be a complete dense forest for me. Now I'm not afraid of it anymore! The biggest problem for me was that, out of stupidity, I immediately applied all boolean modifiers (windows, passages and other holes, as if subtracted from the object). Because of this, the geometry of the objects was distorted and the materials lay on them completely crooked. For this reason, during the texturing process, I had to redo all the towers from scratch along the way. Also, strangely enough, the creation of the earth turned out to be quite difficult for me. Constantly it was either not sufficiently "earthy", then flat, then it bulged out of the most unexpected places of the castle. Perhaps one day I will completely recreate the necropolis, as it was in the video that inspired me to explore 3D (scroll to the very bottom). However, I want to make it bigger, more detailed and more realistic. This will probably be my "thesis" at the final stage of my studies. #3dairy #blender #blender3d #blenderart #blender3dart #blender3dmodelling #blendercommunity #blendershare #3d #3dart #3dmodel #3dmodeling #render #rendering #render3d #3drender #3drenders #blenderrender #b3d #d #dart #hmm3 #heroes3 #heroesofmightandmagic3 #necropolis

Finally finished independent work on the topic of sculpting. So far, this is the hardest thing I've done. From the very beginning, I did not believe that the hydralisk would submit to me. It was morally difficult to start such work, and even harder to continue, seeing how much more lies ahead. Even now I can't believe that it's over. Several times at the initial stage, I seriously wanted to give up and take on something simpler. I think for a long time I will not undertake large works of this level of complexity. It took me about three weeks to do everything, and I was not able to work far from every day. Probably, it could have been done faster, but this is my first independent conscious sculpting (a crooked skull for the staff does not count). The most difficult, oddly enough, were the hands. It didn’t work at all to make claw-blades and some ridiculous sausages turned out. I also made a terrible mistake: I combined three meshes (head, arms and torso) too early. Because of this, certain problems arose and it was necessary to find a way to again divide this time an already solid high-poly object into three meshes... In short, I had to tinker. In the end, I decided to leave the hydralisk without textures and without materials, that's a completely different story. My current level of texturing makes it too cartoonish and doesn't allow me to fully show all the details of the sculptor. Someday, after qualifying, I will paint it. Now, having a little rest, I again continue the WAGON course from Kaino University. #3dairy #blender #blender3d #blenderart #blender3dart #blender3dmodelling #blendercommunity #blendershare #3d #3dart #3dmodel #3dmodeling #render #rendering #render3d #3drender #3drenders #blenderrender #b3d #d #dart #hydralisk #starcraft #starcraft2 #zerg

It was quite stressful, primarily due to time constraints (I finished my last lesson the night before I handed the work). However, it was definitely worth it. Sculpting was not easy for me, because I'm used to having clear instructions, a reference and sticking to it. In sculpting, as the teacher said, you often need to rely on the feeling, because this process can drag on for hours. One day I spent literally just stroking the cat, giving it the desired shape. This is a bottomless pit for perfectionists - no matter how many hours you correct a model, it will always seem that it is not perfect, you still need to stroke it here and tighten it up there. Fortunately, I am not a perfectionist and managed to put an end to it in time. True, I took the recommendation too literally that it is not necessary to strictly follow the reference and rely more on your feelings. However, I am pleased with the result. Tomorrow I will start independent work on the basis of the acquired skills and so far I have no idea what will come of it. #3dairy #blender #blender3d #blenderart #blender3dart #blender3dmodelling #blendercommunity #blendershare #3d #3dart #3dmodel #3dmodeling #render #rendering #render3d #3drender #3drenders #blenderrender #b3d #d #dart

After the fox, I did not model for about a month. Firstly, it was necessary to rest after independent work, and secondly, trips did not allow to start a new course. As soon as we flew to Argentina and I finally had a normal desktop, I finally started "The Wagon Course" from The Caino University. I planned to complete the course this week, however, The Knowers School (guys with The Axe Course) launched a free mini-course again, this time on sculpting. I didn't plan to learn sculpting so soon, given my bad experience with the staff. However, this is a great chance to quickly join a topic that is difficult for me, so the vagon is temporarily paused. #3dairy #blender #blender3d #blenderart #blender3dart #blender3dmodelling #blendercommunity #blendershare #3d #3dart #3dmodel #3dmodeling #render #rendering #render3d #3drender #3drenders #blenderrender #b3d #d #dart

Doing the work on your own, without a guide, is indeed much more difficult than taking a course. This is one of those mistakes that self-taught people do: they can take a thousand courses, but when the first order comes and they first start modeling on their own, it will come to the realization that you can do absolutely nothing. Once again I took up independent work, this time more thoroughly. I was strictly guided by the stages and models of shaman modeling, but I took everything else out of my head, without even using references. Just a flight of fancy. As a result, I essentially went through the shaman course again, only without the video. Almost everything I managed to reproduce from memory, only occasionally looked at the clues at moments that I could not remember, and at the end I got it. Now my shaman has a girlfriend. #3dairy #blender #blender3d #blenderart #blender3dart #blender3dmodelling #blendercommunity #blendershare #3d #3dart #3dmodel #3dmodeling #render #rendering #render3d #3drender #3drenders #blenderrender #b3d #d #dart

After some time, when I moved away a little after such a large work, I realized that I did not want to immediately take on the next one after completing one course. I want to make sure that the course was not in vain and consolidate the acquired skills. However, having taken up independent work, I realized that they did not exist, and do not exist. It's like when you memorize a role and during a rehearsal with a prompter you play it perfectly, but when you go on stage, without a prompter, you can't even remember the first lines. In short, this Gengar, although he does not look bad, I blinded from "shit and sticks", not at all by the methods that I studied in the course. #3dairy #blender #blender3d #blenderart #blender3dart #blender3dmodelling #blendercommunity #blendershare #3d #3dart #3dmodel #3dmodeling #render #rendering #render3d #3drender #3drenders #blenderrender #b3d #d #dart #pokemon #gengar

However, before taking on such serious courses, I decided to start with basic free courses on YouTube. I started with a course on the basics of Blender by Artyom Slakva from the channel "Blender 3D - уроки" or simply "The Shaman Course". Usually, many people start by creating a donut that has already become a meme, but after creating Frostmourne, I didn’t want to make a donut at all. "The Shaman Course" turned out to be extremely intense. It was during its passage that I fully immersed myself in the blender interface, delved into its configuration and customization for myself, and also carefully configured hotkeys. In the process of modeling this shaman, even with my almost zero skills, there were no particular problems. Only had to suffer with his hands. But when it came to such new things for me as UV-scanning, texturing and shader nodes, my cerebellum swam a little. I started this course on September 20, and finished on October 10. I would say that this course is rather difficult for absolutely zero beginners, and in some places even the author understands that it is almost impossible to explain some things to a beginner now and therefore you just have to reproduce the actions in the hope that someday you will be able to realize their meaning. However, the course really improved my skill a lot. I tried not to completely follow the author step by step, but still add something of my own and complicate for myself some places that were easier for me. As a result, I got a darker version of this shaman, which I am very pleased with! #3dairy #blender #blender3d #blenderart #blender3dart #blender3dmodelling #blendercommunity #blendershare #3d #3dart #3dmodel #3dmodeling #render #rendering #render3d #3drender #3drenders #blenderrender #b3d #d #dart #shaman

At the end of the course, Knower School held a stream where the participants' work was evaluated and a full-fledged advanced Game Art course was presented. However, there was no evaluation and even a cursory acquaintance with the work in essence. In fact, the stream was one big advertisement for an advanced course, which now cost only 250$ with a unique discount. And since I didn’t manage to win in two random draws, I went on a free swim and very soon returned with generous loot! #3dairy #blender #blender3d #blenderart #blender3dart #blender3dmodelling #blendercommunity #blendershare #3d #3dart #3dmodel #3dmodeling #render #rendering #render3d #3drender #3drenders #blenderrender #b3d #d #dart

I decided to take something simpler and opted for Frostmourne. I spent 3 days on this work and barely survived until the last day of handing in independent work. Because of the cursed skull, I was already very tired and lost one precious day. This work was given to me with great difficulty, because it is one thing to repeat everything step by step according to the instructions, it is another to do everything completely independently. Now I see how terrible this job is from a technical point of view. It’s better not to look inside the guard at all, because there is not only double, but tenfold geometry and a bunch of confusing polygons with which nothing can be done. I jumped over the head again, but not as high as with the skull, and yet somehow, using all sorts of crutches and light settings, I managed to make the sword look decent. This is my first independent work in Blender and I'm glad that I didn't give up, I didn't decide to take up something even simpler again, but nevertheless I did it. #3dairy #blender #blender3d #blenderart #blender3dart #blender3dmodelling #blendercommunity #blendershare #3d #3dart #3dmodel #3dmodeling #render #rendering #render3d #3drender #3drenders #blenderrender #b3d #d #dart #wow #frostmourne #lichking #arthas

Finally, I was able to start working on my own. However, having become too proud, I took up something that so far was completely too tough for me. I wanted to reproduce the staff of Mannimarco from this art. This fugly skull will serve as a reminder to me not to try to jump over my head. #3dairy #blender #blender3d #blenderart #blender3dart #blender3dmodelling #blendercommunity #blendershare #3d #3dart #3dmodel #3dmodeling #render #rendering #render3d #3drender #3drenders #blenderrender #b3d #d #dart

The passage of three lessons was designed for a week, but I went through them in one gulp in 3 days. It was too interesting. The Knower School course, as a result of which we had to create a low-poly model of a sci-fi axe, started on August 30, 2022 and lasted about a week. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that the training will take place in the same program in which the cities in the heroes were made - Blender. The course consisted of three main lessons and one bonus for those who want to create their own project. This was the beginning of my very first steps in Blender. #3dairy #blender #blender3d #blenderart #blender3dart #blender3dmodelling #blendercommunity #blendershare #3d #3dart #3dmodel #3dmodeling #render #rendering #render3d #3drender #3drenders #blenderrender #b3d #d #dart

However, these thoughts remained thoughts because work, repair, streams and war left no opportunity to think about acquiring some new skill. And yet, when I came across an advertisement for a free 3D mini-course in some YouTube video, I thought that if not now, then most likely never. #3dairy #blender #blender3d #blenderart #blender3dart #blender3dmodelling #blendercommunity #blendershare #3d #3dart #3dmodel #3dmodeling #render #rendering #render3d #3drender #3drenders #blenderrender #b3d #d #dart

It all started with the fact that on July 24, 2022, while looking for information on how to install Heroes 3 on a tablet, I stumbled upon the PolyRoad YouTube channel, where the author created cities from heroes in 3D. I created this account in order to duplicate entries from my VK group (3diary), which is my diary of learning 3d modeling in blender. To begin with, I will throw off here everything that has already been published on VK, and then I will make posts simultaneously on both platforms. Perhaps it will be more convenient for someone to read them on instagram, or maybe someone new will want to subscribe and follow me here. The primary purpose of these posts is simply to record my progress and chronicle my learning. But I will be glad if this is also interesting to someone who, like me, is studying 3D modeling. #3dairy #blender #blender3d #blenderart #blender3dart #blender3dmodelling #blendercommunity #blendershare #3d #3dart #3dmodel #3dmodeling #render #rendering #render3d #3drender #3drenders #blenderrender #b3d #d #dart
