Hidden down an alleyway in Marrakech were the Saadian Tombs. Once a very important site, now popular for tourists. The architecture around the tombs was stunning, through the gravestones themselves appeared to be unmarked. We queued for 45minutes to see one large and ornate room (not pictured). Dzisiaj kontynuowałem zwiedzanie Samarkandy. Odwiedziłem kilka ciekawych miejsc, ale jedno z nich wywarło na mnie tak kolosalne wrażenie, że poświęcę mu cały osobny post. Tym miejscem jest nekropolia Shah-i-Zinda. Jest to niesamowite miejsce o niezwykle długiej historii. Pierwsze grobowce powstały tu już w VIII wieku, ostatnie w XIX. W wielu z nich pochowano postaci bardzo zasłużone dla imperium Timura lub jego krewnych (choćby jedną z żon). Ilość pięknie zdobionych grobowców w tym miejscu rzuca na kolana, nie ma dwóch takich samych, a każdym można się zachwycać bez końca. Obok Registanu to właśnie to miejsce było dla mnie najważniejszym punktem na mapie tego przepięknego miasta, ale efekt przerósł nawet moje bardzo wygórowane oczekiwania. In 1997, an excavation at a prehistoric cemetery in Irkutsk, Russia, revealed the remains of a pregnant woman who lived in the middle Holocene in a hunter-gatherer community some 7,000 to 8,000 years ago. In 2012, Angela Lieverse, an archaeologist at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada, was revisiting a box of bones and realized that there were duplicate tiny bones. The woman had been thought to be pregnant with a single baby, but actually they were twins, turning this discovery into the oldest confirmed evidence of twins in history, as well as one of the earliest examples of death during childbirth. . Pierwsze jest dość oczywiste i odpowiada swojej funkcji – przynależy do danego nagrobka, pokazując (czy upamiętniając) twarz człowieka, który tamże spoczywa. Drugie jej znaczenie ukryte jest głębiej. Każda fotografia, niezależnie od tego, co przedstawia, jest nośnikiem treści mortualnej, sztuką żałobną. Chwila, która zostaje uwieczniona na fotografii, należy już do niemożliwej do odzyskania przeszłości, nie jest więc „żywa” – jej istotą jest zawarta w niej potencja śmierci przedstawianego. Tak podwójnie obciążona, jest obrazem przemijalności. Zdjęcie pełni przede wszystkim funkcję upamiętniającą, a więc nie tylko chroni pamięć o danej osobie, ale i staje się poniekąd odpowiedzią na pierwotny lęk przed utratą twarzy. Wizerunek zmarłego przypomina, że dany człowiek istniał (w pewien sposób istnieje wciąż) i dzięki swojej twarzy, zamrożonej w jednym momencie i ujęciu, odkształca niejako rzeczywistość, zostawiając w niej ślad pamięci. past his bedtime One of the first graves I came across in the Glasgow Necropolis was that of poet William Miller, who “appears to have popularised a pre-existing nursery rhyme, [Wee Willie Winkie,] adding additional verses to make up a five stanza poem” and publishing the same in 1841. I didn’t know there was a monument to him there, and to be honest, I couldn’t have named him, though I grew up learning at least the poem’s first stanza. The monument stood out because of the detailed profile of him. He died destitute, and his remains are interred in an unmarked grave in Tollcross Cemetery. Though I’ve read enough Irvine Welsh novels to understand a reasonable amount, I don’t know enough Scots to understand Miller’s original without the paraphrased version in English alongside it. Oggi abbiamo dovuto annullare alcune escursioni al #villaggiobizantino a causa del vento forte che rendeva rischioso addentrarsi nel bosco e "dirottarne" altre alla Necropoli di Realmese. Luogo altrettanto straordinario, luogo di silenzi, luogo che è uno dei simboli delle dinamiche insediative di questo territorio nel passato. Abbiamo camminato su un'antica trazzera, tra tombe a grotticella che si aprono su una grande parete di bianca roccia calcarea, orchidee e colori di primavera, con lo stupore di chi le ha scoperte per la prima volta e l'amarezza, soprattutto nostra, nel constatare ancora la presenza costante di rifiuti nel parcheggio e altre problematiche che questo luogo dell'anima non meriterebbe di subire.
