The town itself is beautiful and the surrounding landscape makes you feel like you’re in the “real Mexico” (you know, the Mexico you see in the movies!) The cobblestone streets and colonial buildings will have you transported back in time. Visiting Tequila, we spent several hours just wandering around. Just got back from a week-long business trip to #mexico - #jalisco to be precise… I’ve been visiting Mexico since the early 90ies. My impression in 2024?? #méxico was and always stays magical to me. There is no other way to describe it. This amazing country brings together the thriving cosmopolitan vibe of the 21st century wrapped in the charm of its colonial past and glimpses into the indigenous glory of the Aztec empire. It's a place with a lot of beauties everywhere, a strong food culture and solid traditions in which its people still hold old values in high regard. It’s a country with no memory and thus new all the time. Each time I'm here...the same histories of misfortune (poverty on the masses, hopeless land for natives, violent crime, corruption…) but at the same time the tales of great accomplishments. For external US/EU visitors though, it's gonna be a heaven. For tourists, enjoying marvellous beaches, all the diverse exotic landscapes and its great lovely people. For businesses – a land of great opportunities. WHY DO WE LOSE OUR SENSE OF EXCITEMENT?? Although l've been looking forward to the longer days of sunshine for months, the excitement didn't last long. I often have these short-term feelings lately...why is that? Have I lost my sense of excitement? Brief thought and lots of googling... Summarizing, there are a number of reasons why we lose our sense of excitement as we get older. Some of the most common reasons include: CHANGES IN OUR BRAIN: The hippocampus, which is a part of the brain that is involved in memory & learning, shrinks as we age. This makes it more difficult to learn new things and experience new experiences... LESS NOVELTY: As we get older, we are exposed to less novelty. This can make it harder to feel excited about new things, as we may have already seen or done most of the things that are available to us... LESS RISK TAKING: As we get older, we are more likely to avoid taking risks. This can also lead to a decrease in excitement... CHANGES IN OUR PRIORITIES: As we get older, our priorities may change. We may be more focused on our families, careers, or health than we are on excitement, This can lead to a decrease in our desire to seek out new & exciting experiences. There are a number of things that people can do to help maintain their sense of excitement, such as: staying active, learning new things, taking risks, changing perspective. Naturally not everyone loses their sense of excitement as they get older. Some people are able to maintain a sense of wonder & excitement throughout their lives. Now for my part I believe, that excitement is not the only thing that matters in life. There are many other things that are important to me, such as love, happiness, and peace... Is It OK To Wear Short-Sleeved Shirts?..🤔 I have a couple of short-sleeved shirts (had one on yesterday) and wear them from time to time in the summer. However, I was surprised of some DMs yesterday, that refered to short-sleeved shirts as being 'creepy' and for 'old men'..😲 Hmmm.what's your point of view here?? My personal opinion on this: - In a casual setting, I consider short-sleeve shirts an excellent choice during summer or hot weather as they usually help my body to remain dry and cool - In formal setting (or in combination with a tie), I personally recommend rolling up long sleeves. Rolled-up sleeves look a lot more professional than short sleeves in the office. Short-sleeved shirts and a tie are really somehow 'strange'... When I see someone in a short-sleeved shirt and wearing a tie, I immediately think of the NASA- control-room look, an airline pilot, a missionary or a creepy IT geek..🤣 So - are short-sleeved shirts OK? I do think that they definitely have their place. Just like shorts or white socks, the short-sleeved shirt fits perfectly in the casual environment. That means no tie, open collar and assuring that the fit is spot on. Just try it and judge yourself. It's quite centrally located, near Frankfurt's main train station - the "Hauptbahnhof"... The " Xiaolonkan" Chinese Fondue-Restaurant is also located directly opposite Frankfurt central station. ENGINEER BOOTS - leather straps & brass buckles... I recently had a conversation with a buddy who is considering buying some #engineerboots - but is totally unsure about it, due to all the web reviews he is constantly reading (too narrow, too big, too small, too loose, difficult to brake in...)...🤪 To him (he follows me on IG) and everyone else, I'd like to summarize my opinion on "Engineer Boots" as follows: Imagine a Work and a Cowboy boot mating, so if they end up with a baby boot - this would be a wonna-be Motorcycle boot. Even if that sounds funny - that's what I would jokingly call the Engineer Boot... Today I am wearing the #redwingengineer 11" model #2970 from the #redwingheritage collection. My favorite model is actually the #redwing2990 in Black Harness leather - but unfortunately discontinued by RW and no longer available. On the other hand, I like the Briar Oil Slick leather on my 2011s #2970 These boots combine the best of the classic styling of engineer boots with straps and buckles (without shouting "biker boots"), and the famous Red Wing high-traction crepe-wedge ripple soles. They breathe well even on summer days and make an ideal " pull-on-go-into-town-at any-time" pair of boots. I love the loose fit of these boots...😉 To complete the look, here I am wearing my 12 oz rugged heavy denims and shirt by #replay red seal... PLEASE NOTE! GRO SPISERI - "the eatery levelled above the city".... This is how the @grospiseri introduces itself on its website, and it's no exaggeration... 💯 The "GRO SPINERI" is a concept urban garden eatery where a small team of excellent chefs and staff accomplish small culinary miracles. The Dining-Room is set in a greenhouse surrounded by a rooftop farm ( @oestergro ). Based on organic production, 99% of the exquisite dishes are prepared depending on the season, using only local organic products. The, in our case 5 course menu was served on shared plates, as we set at a long "community table" with another 18 (unknown) guests. Each course was served to everyone at the same time while the chefs presented and revealed the ingredients. Our evening was crowned with a beautiful sunset at the end and we will remember our exquisite diner @grospiseri for a very long time... PS. AS FAR AS THE EYE CAN SEE....🥹🥰👍 As a southerner, I don't particularly like the north, I always associate everything northern with cold. After my first visit to #copenhagen though, I am happy to be able to revise my opinion. Yes, it was cool and permanently windy - but sunny and very colourful. Copenhagen is really beautiful, lively and cosmopolitan. The Copenhageners we met were very friendly and as you would expect from northerners - always relaxed. I will not name any typical tourist attractions in my following posts. Others can do that better. I would rather like to share some words and pictures of our visit & dine at the Restaurant "SILO". As you can see in the pictures, that's the view you get from the top of the "SILO" in Copenhagen's northern harbour area, where @restaurantsilo is located on the 17th floor. The building itself is a pretty impressive piece of architecture that also houses some of the Danish capital's most exclusive apartments. The beautiful view of the city and harbour isn't reserved for the residents though: the "SILO" lets everyone enjoy the picturesque backdrop with their dinner thanks to its grandiose panoramic windows. A Cowboy Boot with "Minnesota Twist" - is that possible?? Following my posts, you surely noticed that I was in #texas earlier this year. Besides all the cliches & platitudes about the Lone Star State, two things are omnipresent - big cars and #westernboots... As I'm not into riding horses and I'm not working on a ranch - l always found Western boots somehow out of place in urban areas. Don't get me wrong I'm not making fun out of those wearing them - it just isn't my thing... However, having all these Texan "guys & gals" around me with their decorative stitching boots - thought, what the heck and bought, at a Red Wing store in Katy/TX a pair of #redwingpecosboots The #pecos (mine are the model 8187) are from the #redwingheritage Western boot collection, with a touch of RW's iconic but simple design, comfortable fit and rugged looks. They're built with Brown Boomer leather, and they come along with Traction Tred Cushion Crepe Wedge, Goodyear welt construction and are of course triple stitched. It's definitely a recognizable RW heritage boot that maintains the characteristics of what made it a great style to begin with most notably its pull-on entry and classic side seam shaft. APRIL DOES - WHAT APRIL WANTS"... This morning I actually had frost on the windscreen again... this at end of April! Yeah, I know...the month of April ist a bit fickle in our climes but frost??...🤔 ...and then all of a sudden - around 11:00 am. bright sunshine...🌞😎 Frost, cold, sunshine, warmth... my #moctoe doesn't care about all that. On the way to the "Golden Anniversary" - wedding? Noooo - pure friendship of over 45 years and counting! As briefly mentioned in yesterday's post, Genna and I been friends for more than 45 years. So, if and whenever we manage to meet - we let it rip! There is always so much to say and to talk about, but the evening just doesn't have enough hours... Wherever we get together...wine & food (in exactly this sequence) is well selected..and our host Gianfranco Pilurzi and his team of @stileitaliano.oberursel were neither an exception nor a disappointment. Great dine & wine...special thanks to our waiter Leonardo! Besides the great wine selection (a white 2020 LA TUNELLA/Biancocosesto from the Friaul, followed by a Sardinian delicacy, a red 2017 S' ARAI/ lsola Dei Nuraghi), the super tasty entry, pasta, meat and the Venezuelan Botucal rum...I 'd like to focus on our 2 special deserts... The #italiancuisine is rich in sweet delicacies. The #babarum (Babà al rhum) has achieved world fame - a cake soaked in rum syrup and which has become a symbol of Naples and its sweets. Second, we had #seadas (Seadas) - a traditional dessert from Sardegna. Filled with cheese and glazed with honey (some call it the sweet ravioli), this dessert offers just an unforgettable special taste experience. We have been friends for over 45 years and have experienced a lot together. @gennaros_einfache _kueche is modestly described a restaurateur by profession and those who know him know, that he is one of the best Italian cuisiniers in Frankfurt and the Rhein-Main area. Unfortunately, this job is very time consuming and I am all the happier when my buddy Genna finds time to spend a few hours with me. We're going out for dinner & chat tonight. Accordingly, I decided on "all black" for the occasion tonight.. I'm wearing a pair of #nudiejeans. Is Red Wing now a German company from "Frankfurt" or an American company based in "Red Wing/MN"?? I guess no one is realy doubting, that RW is based in Red Wing, Minnesota... But why is #frankfurt then occasionally mentioned in relation with #redwing?...🤔 Well, here some background information...😉 The #redwing8801 - the "Frankfurter " as aficionados call it, is a European exclusive 6" classic Moc Toe in Copper Rough and Tough, which is a distressed pull up leather boot with an antiqued appearance that is designed to appear slightly worn and already broken in. Actually, the #8801 is a classic reissue of the #redwing8804 in Russet Portage leather. Since the 1980s, the #8804 has only been available in Europe and in particular at the Red Wing Store in Frankfurt. In the course of time, the term "Frankfurter" has prevailed for this model. Besides coming along with a heel pad, a soft antibacterial insole, speed hooks for quick lacing. it has a Chevron SuperSole, a sole making method that RW developed and patented back in the 1980's. The SuperSole process is almost identical to the Goodyear welt process but instead of sewing the sole to the welt, the shoe is set to the sole and cast in Urethane foam. This makes the RW SuperSole boot as strong as a Goodyear welt construction but more lightweight. Being lightweight. makes the #8801 great for a long and/or all day wearing, and in my particular case on the streets of my #hometown #rankfurtcity - today in a brownish shaded style... PLEASE NOTE! Well take, concerning my topic for instance the #redwing8849 Black Prairie and in comparison, the #redwing8890 Charcoal Rough & Tough from the #redwingheritage line. On a first look and/or from a distance these two 6" Moc Toes look BLACK! But... The #8849 Black Prairie (that I'm actually wearing today) is a matte brown leather overdyed black. With the time the patina, if unconditioned will turn brownish. The #8890 Charcoal R&T (that 1 had on the other day) is a pulled-up leather with natural vintage appearance and looks slightly worn when purchased. The patina here, if unconditioned , should turn into a multi tone dark grey with a deep prown hue. If black is the color you're looking for, you should probably rather stick to one of #redwing 's Black Harness leather models. Now if you're in for some interesting alternatives to "pure" black- but don't want to stray too far - the two models above and out of personal experience are perfect options... Btw..the jacket l'm having on today is a perfect fit. It's a Levi's #vintageleather jacket I bought some years ago. Black from the outside - brown inside. Understand what I mean?.. PLEASE NOTE! NO! - I will not talk about details that are known to every visitor or can be optained from the Internet. Something different today! Do you know the history of the alphabet at the "Sagrada Familia"?? This alphabet was designed for the inscriptions in the western sacristy of the "Sagrada Familia". It's inspired in the organic and flourish style Gaudí used to draw letters. These glyphs were, rather than letters, closer to drawings. An "amen" crossed by the monogram "JHS" (Jesus, Savior of Men) that is placed at the pinnacle that ends in the dome was taken as a starting point. The character of these letters was transferred and applied later on the rest of the letters of the alphabet. The design of this crossed inscription had a special difficulty since it had to match properly to the surface. The inscriptions of the pediments are the invocations of the Apocalypse in Catalan: Lloança (praise), Glòria (glory), Saviesa (wisdom), Honor (honor), Poder (power) and Enroa (farea) Interesting?
