Upon reading my Pack Odds 101 piece on Medium, Tyler from @ultimate_card_guides offered a valuable insight, highlighting the prevalent misconception that pack odds directly reflect the scarcity of a specific card. While pack odds can serve as a rough indicator, devoid of further context, they can mislead as several other factors contribute to a card's rarity when compared to others. One pivotal variable is the total volume of the product, denoting the number of packs manufactured. Naturally, a lower production volume results in a scarcer print run based on a given pack odd. However, even within a single product line, there's another crucial factor to consider. To exemplify, let's delve into one of my cherished sets, originating from the 96-97 Bowman’s Best series. On the left stands a 96-97 Best Cuts Atomic Refractor, with a pack insertion rate of 1 in 194. Conversely, its counterpart on the right, the 96-97 Honor Roll Atomic Refractor, presents a doubled challenge with a rate of 1 in 384 packs, suggesting it might be twice as rare as the Best Cuts counterpart. While it's indeed twice as difficult to obtain an Honor Roll compared to a Best Cuts, both cards are equally rare due to the Best Cuts set featuring twice as many players. Therefore, the apparent discrepancy in accessibility between the two sets stems from the differing player checklists, not the respective print runs which are indeed equal. 1998 Circa Thunder Super Rave /25 The Super Rave is a monster parallel and embodies what the 90s were all about! Take a look at that bronze holofoil design on the nameplate that pops off the card while glittering under the light. A design so cool that it was used the following year on the metal universe gem masters. Finding a Super Rave in any player is almost impossible because of how close they resemble the base card. I can imagine horror stories of collectors pulling this back in the day and discarding it because they mistaken it for a common card. Only 6 of the 25 serial numbers are on the PSA pop report. I’ve personally only seen 4 of them. I wonder how many more still exist? The story behind this card is a fun one. I never thought I’d let go of the James Bond 007 serial number until I was offered a trade for one of the top cards on my list. This trade turned out to involve three people and will be a story I tell when I post the card I got in the deal. It was months later I was offered back the Super Rave from the same collector I traded with but I wasn’t in a position to grab it back fast enough. By the time I got around to being able to meet the asking price, it was traded away. When I found out who ended up with the card I quickly reached out to see if it was still available and lucky for me it was. After some back and forth conversations-I was able to bring it back home. Inserted 1:240 packs (wow!), this is one of the rarest Allen Iverson rookie cards available, being edged out ever so slightly by the 1996 E-X2000 A Cut Above insert, which pops up 1:288 packs. So yes, the Iverson is a must—And then the Jordan because.. well.. because Michael Jordan! While this particular insert does not get as much love (imo) as the Skybox Golden Touch that followed it up in 1997, the 96s are just as beautiful with an elegant back, gold foil, the giant GT across and die cut, you can never beat a sick 90s insert 😎🏀

After a few missed opportunities, and crickets in the Facebook groups - I was finally able to add one of these to the Dale pc. 1997 Pinnacle Certified Epix Moment Emerald. This parallel has a widely accepted print run of 30-50 copies in the hockey, baseball and football releases. If the same is true for racing, that would make this one of Dale’s rarest 90’s cards.
